Some consistency from Uefa, please

819

Of all the supporter-related offenses Uefa are disciplining football clubs on at the moment the use of lasers annoys me most (with the appropriate caveat for health and safety matters).

Racism, health and safety violations, violence flares are all appropriate reasons to sanction a club but it’s always bothered me that Uefa seem to let the continental fashion for shining powerful lasers into the faces of opposing players and managers was not tackled appropriately.

I was, therefore, pleased to hear Uefa disciplined Olympiacos for, among a rich litany of offenses, their fans pointing a laser at Anderlecht players during their recent Champions League game.  The Greek club have been ordered to close the more colourful part of their stadium for their last 16 game against Manchester United.

It will surprise few of us that despite the Greeks being sanctioned for using lasers, Milan have gone unpunished, despite their fans pointing lasers at Celtic players during our recent drubbing.

These games are supervised and televised from multiple angles.  If the use of lasers attracts a punishment, and it should, the rules must apply without fear or favour.

Everyone who asked to book a ticket or table for the CQteN St Patrick’s Day Party should have received an email regarding payment in the last day.  If you have not received an email, get in touch right away (CQNbooks@gmail.com) to ensure your booking is confirmed.

I almost never bet the hoops either. Fgs and correct scores sometimes but never results. Double boot in haw maws if they don’t come in.

    I have bet against us twice…..and won….noo where’s the wee ashamed smiley…..?

  6. Bhoys and Ghirls,

Rumoured that the mini- huns only have 10 outfield players tomorrow. Good 10 + 1 GK makes a full team. Many occasions in the past we have struggled to list a meaningful complement of subs. No sympathy from me.

Looking for a morale booster, playing some youth and winning by playing football the Glasgow Celtic way.

Don’t hold back Celtic, go for it from the first second. Show the peepil down Govan way what they have to aspire to if they ever want to come even close to us. I would urge the fans to get right behind the team in hopefully large numbers.

Yes, you’re correct and the extension of the scam was their Board’s only defeat yesterday; the debt for equity switch.

As I understand the intention, although the individual limit was to be £66k an aggressive fund, e.g. Laxey, could spit out incorporations like machine gun fire.

Say the directors receive 100 x £50k = £5m. The £5m is switched to be 500 million penny shares, further choking the fund’s grip round the neck of the club.

(p.s. none of the above is meant to suggest I think anyone on the planet will bestow £5m on this Sevco)

  8. It is a shame about Lustig, he’d have been a player of the year candidate for me. Now that will be down to Virgil Van Dijk or Kris Commons.

As one door closes another one opens though and with Adam Mathews back we have the cover AND we crucially have Darnell Fisher who can be developed and what a chance for the boy now.

With at least one new Striker coming in and the possibility of another and a Japanese player it looks like the calls from people like myself are being heeded and that the team will be re-jigged to get it ready for the next qualifiers. For once Celtic appear to be doing the right thing and forward planning.

Lets hope lessons were indeed learned.

As for Samaras and Ledley, you boys have two weeks, sign or be moved on. Getting some return on them is better than nothing.

Looking like we we will lose Sammi and Ledley ….a significant change from both love the club and negotiations progressing well

I genuinely believe Joe did get the club, and loves being a Celtic player.

But look at his injury record in that time. He’s probably fed up getting kicked all over the place, and for a lot less money than he can get in England where he will be treated fairly.

He’s got the medals and memories to share with the kids,so I wish him the best of luck.

I also wish he would stay put!

  14. Almost literally top of the morning to you all on this decentish day in Fife where the gales are subsiding and the rain has stopped.

I’m not slagging Samaras here but I’m afraid his style of play is just not suited to the modern pass and move game which the very best teams use to great effect. It’s no accident that we played our best football of the season against Hertz and Murderwell without Samaras (and Forrest for that matter) without him. I’ve been brought up on wing players taking on defenders, getting to the by-line and whipping in crosses. It still happens occassionally but it’s a dying art. Even if Samaras wanted to stay, I’d let him go. Give me a Nakamura type player over a Sammi type these days.

When I worked in Christian Salveson in Bellshill in the 90s one of the loading supervisors took one off those we ticker guns that press out a message and typed “big Fenian B*&^*&^” and stuck it on my locker. As him and his lackies were having a wee chuckle I asked if I could borrow said GunI proceeded to type out the word PROUD and stuck it in front of his message:))They never said a word but their faces told me all I needed to know.

I worked in a large printing/polythene business some years ago. I ran a small printing press. One night shift 11th July, I went for my piece, was after midnight now, I came back and my press had red white and blue polythene decked all over it, red ink had been used to make red hands. Och I laugjed and just started the press up and carried on, the factory coming down for a swatch and a laugh.

About an hour before clocking off time and prior to management coming in, a couple of the guys were walking past laughing, ho ye better get that all off and cleaned……

Ah never done it, I’ll just leave it, brightens it up.

Suffice to say come eight, it was gone.

  22. DeniaBhoy in awe of wee Oscar's Courage on

Sammi shone for a while but this season he once again looks like the player who infuriated more of the support than most. Last year he starred against CL teams with some great performances, this year he has been nullified all too easily. In the SPFL the team looks more fluid and creative without him. If we had a couple of decent strikers his lack of goals wouldn’t be so glaring and he could be a a useful sub.

Think for him and for the club the time is right to part ways. He’s still got at least 5 years to play at a good level so maybe a new challenge will get him fired up again.

I wish him the best wherever he goes, he wore the jersey with pride and provided some great moments and, on more than one occasion, looked equal to more illustrious opponents.
