Spartak and the long road home

1014

Having disposed of Raith Rovers last night, Celtic have two huge away games, against top of the table Motherwell before a trip to Moscow for a Champions League match against Spartak in six days.

Tonight Spartak play just a few miles from the Ukraine border and have a journey of close to 1000 miles on Saturday.  It is little wonder they, like Celtic, are looking for ways to improve their injury record.

Celtic will travel to Moscow only a few hours after Spartak leave the city of Perm to journey home.  On Tuesday we will be the fresher team.  Could this be the game we break our duck away from home in the Champions League?  If we get it right on the park it will be.

I didn’t read the (incredible) statement by Charles Green until late last night, when I caught it via the excellent analysis by Paul McConville on his Random Thoughts blog.  Mr Green, Paul concludes, is “Either… stupid, which he is not, or he has decided to continue to appeal to his core support”.

There is a third alternative.  Last season we watched Craig Whyte, then Duff and Phelps, embark on a series of unfathomable actions.  Neither party was stupid, nor were their actions necessarily guided by anything as a coordinated appeal; they were simply being buffeted along by circumstances.  No one was in control, had the experience necessary or was party to a deliverable Grand Plan, resulting in a series of random utterances.

We’re planning the next issue of CQN Magazine. Let me know if you would like to submit an article or if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

  1. Glad to hear the Spartak game will be visible live here in ye olde K of U….our very own ConDemNation…in recognition of the arch-rocket Clegg, the smaller bit of the Claggeron, is giving his keynote speech to the cleggites in Brighton right now. The waffle he is spouting is complete jackanory…..bears no relation to reality or his position at Cabinet meetings, which is generally bent over, being told what’s what by the Eton mess lot actually ripping off what’s left of the country.

If it wasn’t for Celtic I’d implode.

In terms of the maths question, it will help young minds to learn how to apply their knowledge and logic to problems in general.

Being able to use knowledge and logic to solve problems must be a good thing for going people to learn.

  3. So anyone planning to watch the Zombies against the Mothers tonight?

Will McCall’s lot lie down? Pick up an injury before Saturday or be demoralised by a defeat? Or do we want the Zombies through so that we can play them in the next round?

  4. Good result and performance last night.

Brilliant showings from Efe, Dylan, Wee James and Hoops.

Great to see Joe and Beram back and looking fit.

It all bodes well for the Muthers and Spartak next week.

I for one certainly won’t be surprised if we produce something special in Moscow, this young squad under Lenny are looking very good indeed. If Sammy does make it my confidence in the team will only rise.

Let’s hope we come through the weekend unscathed for a change and leave the injury worries to the Russians.

  5. Just on wee oscars just giving page , says amount so far just over £100k.. That doesnt include saturdays collection of 31k does it ?

  6. My answer to the mathematical conundrum? No idea I’m afraid!

I did obtain an ‘O’ level in that subject in, eh…1971.

I would have to ask Ms Tally – but she’s not taking any calls at the moment.

The old hun I car pool with was late in applying for season tickets for Zombie FC

He hasnt got season tkts yet and been getting match tkts which maybe are

    listed as £0:00

Just incase we are being hoodwinked with that match tkt.

  8. Dontbrattbakkinanger,

I will probably watch for lack of much else to do, but couldn’t ever bring myself to want the Zombies to win. Still, a heartbreaking extra time defeat and a gruelling night for McCall’s mob would be nice.

  9. If, by a miracle, the huns should win(!!) tonight there is every chance that we could draw them in the QF.

Oh – hold on a minute they’re playing the mullett’s mob: they have every chance of winning!

On a serious note I would have grave misgivings about playing them in the next round (if it came to that) – I’m thinking of major disorder on the streets, in the pubs and also in homes all over the country. No thanks!

I will not be watching the Sevco match as I have no interest in their efforts on the pitch – which I am certain are nowhere near the entertainment levels they provide off the pitch.

I will be intrigued to see the result on this occasion though. Defeat for Sevco will be a huge blow in Green’s attempts to raise capital for any share issue. And should they make an early Scottish Cup exit the roof will fall in.

Defeat for Motherwell will place their manager under immense pressure – as their fans will not tolerate losing to a fourth-tier outfit, who McCall amazingly thinks are evenly matched with his team.

Defeat for Sevco will also be a blow to BBC Scotland as they will have to share money around the other clubs in the country aside from their favourite team. Someone told me they have been on the BBC five times already this season and it’s only the third week of September.

  11. They will beat motherwell tonight, they need the money whoever they play next round.

If they draw us, will it be us playing the OF @ 42 pounds a pop, or a 4 th tier club @ 12-15 quid ???

If I were a gambling man, I know what I would plump for !!!

  12. TheOriginalSadiesBhoy on

Did I read correctly earlier on here that Celtic don’t have a case to answer over ‘offensive’ Zombie banner.

Can anyone give me more details on what has happened?

    Hail! Hail!

  13. According to zombies on twitter, there are free tickets been given out at the ticket office for tonights match.

Some not pleased seeing as they have already paid for them.

BBC Scotland have just put Motherwell manager Stuart McCall’s after match statement for tonights game online. It reads,

“obviously we are disappointed at the lackluster display and below par performance tonight. We simply did not compete, and the defending at two of the goals was embarrassing.

However, I can assure all Motherwell fans that there will be a completely different approach to the league game against Celtic this weekend.

And to Ally McCoist, I say, ‘Ma-ha-bone’! “.

    Thomthethim, T E T,

If you are asking for a ‘remainder’ then there will be no decimal points, only whole numbers.

In that case in addition to above – 721 fits the bill.

    *****

Exactly, 721 was the number I was given.

Like TET, I’m too thick to have worked it out! :>)

PS. Back from a stormy beach walk, so :-

    Ah’m back in.

  16. THE EXILED TIM

I would hope that if that was the case that our support show them the same respect that they gave to Raith Rovers last night. i.e. not bother turning up at all.

  17. William Hill now has Motherwell as favourites to go through tonight. Apart from lots of people putting money on the SPL team, has something else happened (Sevco were odds on last night ). or has McCall read Steinreignedsupreme`s third paragraph in his 16.24 post?

Thanks for the reply I just logged back on , that was a fantastic

sum well done to all involved, and no a 40k + crowd is not small,

just thinking that there was 4 people who sit next to me who were

away for the bank holiday weekend, just think what could have been

achieved if it was collected when Barca come to town.
