Spartak and the long road home

1014

Having disposed of Raith Rovers last night, Celtic have two huge away games, against top of the table Motherwell before a trip to Moscow for a Champions League match against Spartak in six days.

Tonight Spartak play just a few miles from the Ukraine border and have a journey of close to 1000 miles on Saturday.  It is little wonder they, like Celtic, are looking for ways to improve their injury record.

Celtic will travel to Moscow only a few hours after Spartak leave the city of Perm to journey home.  On Tuesday we will be the fresher team.  Could this be the game we break our duck away from home in the Champions League?  If we get it right on the park it will be.

I didn’t read the (incredible) statement by Charles Green until late last night, when I caught it via the excellent analysis by Paul McConville on his Random Thoughts blog.  Mr Green, Paul concludes, is “Either… stupid, which he is not, or he has decided to continue to appeal to his core support”.

There is a third alternative.  Last season we watched Craig Whyte, then Duff and Phelps, embark on a series of unfathomable actions.  Neither party was stupid, nor were their actions necessarily guided by anything as a coordinated appeal; they were simply being buffeted along by circumstances.  No one was in control, had the experience necessary or was party to a deliverable Grand Plan, resulting in a series of random utterances.

It seems that every time cg starts shouting, there is a reason behind it.

    Sounds like a worried man.

  2. Very difficult to get anything from a Russian team in Russia, especially as the winter weather starts to take hold. Spartak might have a long league journey but they do this every week.

We’d do extremely well to get a draw.

I was told they have to pay all outstanding football debt by the end of September or else they are Donald Ducked.

  4. I’m sort of confused.

Are they a newco or are they still oldco, or a mixture of both ?

Having read Paul McC’s take on things, still none the wiser in truth.

They have debts to pay, this was part of the agreement in obtaining a licence.

Chuck obviously dosen’t have the money to pay them.

Is his plan to get the club kicked out ? what would that achieve ?

    More confused by the day.

  6. Wee article in the Metro today about Rapid trying to claim 700k. The quote went along the lines of “how much we will get remains to be seen”.

Out of all the teams they owe money to, Rapid seem to be the ones with the bone for it.

I follow this story on a daily basis and am hugely confused.

It would be less confusing to me and, more importanly, creditors of the old company, if there was a clear distinction between the old company and the new in terms of the naming and imagery used by the new company.

At the moment, I just can’t fathom how the the old company think they can get away with ditching so much debt and continue under the guise of a newco.

I worry that other clubs and business up and down the land may try the same thing.

When do BDO get to work again?!

I have only just seen your previous post.

If I had thought for a minute that your ‘angry’ post was your level of literacy, I would not have commented on it.

We should try not to become a mirror image of our sad neighbours.

    Apologies for my grumpy criticism.

We keep getting conflicting reports re BDO.

The whole thing stinks of hunnery, from the top to the bottom.

Never in my life have I seen an administration like this one, not a single redundency, not a one.

The creditors are getting shafted big time, and the biggest one of all has not insisted on BDO taking their place, Lord Hodge has asked for a report from duff and duffrer, still waiting.

It seems like the FTT is what everybody is waiting for.

    Then what ?

They are skint, no chance of paying a thing.

They will not be kicked out of the game.

A few titles may well be striped, so what.

They will prob go bust again, so what, they will come back, more rabid than ever.

This is a chance to rid the game, and society of the real problems, will it be taken, more chance that I will be the next queen of england.

    DisgustedCSC

  12. I noticed that some posters were talking about whether titles, trophies should be stripped from Rangers. This is a simple admin job, when cheating is proven, in any sport, the result of the contest is changed, in this case in each game an illegally registered player participated the result will be changed to 3-0 in favour of the opponents. In turn this will change the position of the cheat in the league/cup, when the reshuffle is completed we will find out the positions those who did not cheat should rightly be awarded.

History will not forget what the cheats have done, remember 1988, Olympic 100 final, remember who won, what happened to him. Ben Johnsons cheating has never been forgotten.

Does anyone remember who did actually win the Gold medal after Johnson was disqualified?

  13. In law they’re different entities, a contractual debt that was owed to oldco should remain with oldco, which is exactly what has happened with the majority (ie non-football related) of the debt.

In football terms the SFA, it appears, have ratified them as the same footballing entity, which means they can impose football rules and sanctions.

The money which the SFA is withholding from newco is not a contractual debt, it is money attained via application of the association’s rules. Therefore, again, subject to any conditions the SFA may apply in accordance with their rules. This is not newco’s money until the SFA say it is their money.

Sorry Wonky, you’re not in a minority, you’re just in the wrong on this one. If a team/athlete is caught cheating after winning a match/competition/event the result of that match/competition/event in the interests of integrity must be overturned, their opponents in a match awarded the result or in some circumstance the runner up in the competition/event awarded the win.

    kdc:

No long in and seen your post. I would be quite happy to be wrong if the majority are calling for a decision that might not be identical to my own- if it comes to giving us the titles and others cups then so be it. I will accept the decision easily enough. The most important thing is that they are recognised as cheats and punished accordingly.

All I worry about is giving revisionism an opportunity to manifest itself and even that mob ( if they survive into the future) building some monstrous edifice to martyrdom based on us stealing “their” titles. A future HunZombieFC maybe be even more rabid than the deadcoFC if we are awarded those titles- like Versaille, Germany and its aftermath come to mind. Titles of course would be awarded automatically and have nothing to do with any influence from us but that wouldn’t stop the hordes from using it to reinforce their siege mentality.

Ah well, its all academic anyway. They will probably go bust at some time.

I hust want them officially branded as cheats and liars and for them to punished.

  15. tigertim/ASonOfDan,

    Aye, looks that way.

It’s gone way, way beyond for the good of the game, it’s political now, and has been for a time, being conducted by the masonic and the OO along with the compliance of the authorities.

They will never get punished to a level that deserves their crimes, it’s a white wash.

When it comes out that they have cheated on an industrial scale, I honestly don’t have faith that the clubs in scotland will do the right thing, and I include our board in that.

They deserve to be kicked out of the game, anything less will be just as criminal as what they have done.

I can honestly see me giving up on the game in scotland, and I say that with a heavy heart.
