SPFL review but know to expect further challenges

1294

The new SPFL board yesterday agreed that some sort of review should take place into the debacle which saw Rangers collapse into liquidation. While this is welcome as far as it goes, its scope will necessarily be bound by what the SPFL previously agreed to bind itself to.  This was clear from the off, which I alluded to at the time.

If you contractually agree to limit your future actions for all purposes, you tie your own hands. This is where the SPFL are now and it is the reason we must look beyond them. The actions of those who tied their own hands are just as important as matters pertaining to the integrity of Scottish football’s competitions (the Scottish Cup and SFL League Cup, as well as the SPL).

The SPFL are not the only ones who are looking into this matter. They know to expect challenges during the course of the next two months.

Episode 5 of The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind comes hot on the heels of one of the club’s most controversial European ties in recent memory.

* What now for the Green Brigade?

As a matter of interest, regardless of the numbers involved. Grey or Red? Which “species” dominates given any natural territorial battle?

  2. Brendan son, we would all be living happily, in a big Irish shire, if it wizny for politics.

But, Brendan, politics dictate that, all of us living in a big happy shire, will not be happening.

Brendan, politics dictated to our ancestors that, we couldn’t get to live in the big happy shire.

Brendan, for years, almost a decade, I’ve been pleading with a concerning amount of, innocent, well meaning, Celtic supporters, to become more aware of, the types of custodians who are looking after their club.

I’m also concerned / worried / paranoid about, the types of folk that these custodians recruit, that’s were you come in, Brendan.

Ye see, I’ll come straight out with it, I think you are a player Brendan.

I think that you have been recruited, so that the PLC’s inaction, to all the hun cheating, will stop Celtic supporters, rebelling against the clubs, complicit custodians.

I think Brendan, that you are a, PLC pawn. But, the thing is, if you are a, willing pawn, then, that deception, constitutes grounds for your removal.

That would be sad but, it would be even sadder, if Celtic FC, continue to be a, rudderless ship were, the head operatives pursue a confidentiallity clause culture within the, rudderless structures of what might soon be a, ship on the rocks.

Sack The PLC, give the keys of the club to, Jeanette Findlay, or Celtic will be in free fall within a year.

The PLC Old Firm Era has to end.

    …….off-oot.

Sionnach Abu – I hear you but, respectfully, he is not the target. The message is.

The message from the SPFL/SFA is they did a serious piece of rigour in the shape of a commission chaired by a Lord.

Our counter should be – no they didn’t, they got a guy called Billy to front a whitewash.

For the record, Bill Smith wasnt a Lord at the time of the inquiry in question.

Given developments, it sure would be interesting to get his opinion out there into the public domain, That is, if there’s a PR consultancy out there willing to pay him enough to give it.

“You give the impression here, that there is consensus out there, that ‘the guys that really contributed to the troubles’ are outraged at the actions of the GB last week. ”

It serves me right that, having censored myself to offer no personal views on the situation, I end up having “my” views foisted upon me by you, via that tired old strategy of alleging that I have “given” an impression when it was you, who should accept the personal responsibility, of having “taken” it.

For what its worth, it would be ludicrous to assert any uniformity or consensus amongst the Republican movement on events between the GB and The Board. Who would be carrying out such a poll, FFS? It’s a ludicrous idea and, though I have been wrong many times before and will be again, I really do try hard not to do ludicrous.

My point was not against the singing of rebel songs. It was not against the GB alone. I was backing up the oft expressed view that we use the Rebs largely as a GIRUY to fans we dislike or feign to dislike. We go around the grounds of Scotland telling other Scottish fans that “The IRA will set you free!”- now, that’s bizarre- or is there an undeclared claim on Scotland from across the irish Sea?

In using the War Songs as a GIRUY message, we are disrespecting the Republican movement.

I never want and have never wanted to see Irish Republican and Nationalist songs disappear from our repertoire. I would prefer a less narrow repertoire and, the GB have been better at this than our away support, in general, have been.

Many good Celtic men from the North made that very point last week and some of them sing the songs very well and long may they continue, and some of them have more right to a say on this matter than many.

But GAA games, irish soccer matches, rugby and cricket games are not awash with the War tunes in the way that we are, at times. I just want us to recognise the current era, maintain our Irish traditions and connections. never be ashamed of our past and our inheritance, but do not use this just to provoke, even where Linfield fans deserved a bit of provoking.

The GB went too far in their reference to Brendan mostly and in not being as clever as they thought they were being with the paramilitary depiction. Our Board have questions to answer too on the reasons behind the walk out at the Lyons game and their strange delayed reaction to the Hearts match flares.

But none of that will be resolved on CQN. That is for the Board and GB to get back together again and accept some realities on both sides.

I had not wanted to write this post but I will not accept wilful misrepresentation of my (largely unsaid) words.

  20. From the BBC site:

“Moussa Dembele is happy at Celtic and the club have no plans to sell the striker, says manager Brendan Rodgers.

Asked about reports linking the 21-year-old with Marseille, Rodgers said “100%” no talks had taken place.

“Moussa has been linked with 10 clubs,” he said. “There’s nothing in it from our perspective.

“There’s no rush from Moussa. He loves being here. He knows he is in an incredible environment where he can learn and improve.”

Dembele scored 32 goals in 39 games in all competitions for Celtic last season, his first since arriving from Fulham for a compensation fee of £500,000.

Celtic host Rosenborg in a Champions League qualifier at Celtic Park on Wednesday.

Dembele did not train on Tuesday because of injury, according to Rodgers.

The France Under-21 international has three years to run on his contract and Rodgers said he had not spoken to the player about his future this summer.

“Part of the plan for Moussa coming in here was that, if he progressed how I thought he would progress and if he wanted to move at any time, it was going to be after the second year,” said Rodgers.

“The projection was that he could come here and improve, develop and win trophies and then look as a young player to go and show that he has the consistency to go again the next season.

“To be a successful player, you have to have the mentality to keep going year in, year out.

“He doesn’t change either way. There can be lots of speculation. He gets on with his work.

“There will be a natural solution. There will be something at some point in his career here when there is an offer which is a sensible one for both parties.

“It’s certainly nowhere near that at this moment. He’s a player we want to keep and, if anything ever did come in, we would assess it.

“I haven’t put a price on what that would be. What I know is that he’s a 21-year-old who is developing and growing and has all the qualities to play at the very highest level.”
