Spinning for trouble by Sky

1044

I try to avoid those who really should be avoided but I caught the report of Peter Lawwell’s Sky TV interview on their website yesterday.  The “No summer sales” headline was misleading in itself as our chief exec actually said “there is no real necessity to sell players now”.

We are a solvent and well-run football club, there is no real, or imagined, necessity to sell, but there is an enormous leap between this status and “no summer sales”.  All clubs, not just Celtic, sell when an offer exceeds their valuation for a player and they believe the money could be more productively redeployed elsewhere.  There is no necessity for Manchester City to sell players, not until the oil runs out in the Middle East, anyway, but they may still sell.

Best part of the article was from Charlie Nicholas, “I’m a bitter idiot. Listen, I’ll prove it…..”

I’ve translated that quote from the vernacular.

Loved newco Rangers accounts.  £3.5m in the bank on 31 December, £1.5m loan since, so they have £5m to operate until the season ticket money comes in, which will just be enough, but cash burn is running at over £1m per month; close to £15m a year.

£30m-£50m is not enough.

Your exchange makes me recall a story about Jackie Stewart the racing driver.

Not a particularly religious man, he was known to go into any kind of church for time to time and pray for something — something he wanted.

After his son Paul developed cancer and was cured, he stated that from time to time he now found himself going into churches of any denomination if the notion took him.

However instead of praying for something, he now found himself thanking God for everything he had in life — further he now prayed FOR nothing for himself at least.

No noo, I had a scooter yes, a Lambretta 150 , we where more into music and buying gear(gear was clothes in those days) and I did see the Smal Faces in the mid to late sixties play live at the Duck Bay Marina Loch Lomond , great night, until after it was over, bikers all outside between the hotel and our bus, well needless to say what happened then, we asked the to let the birds on the bus, they of course refused, so we told the birds to go back into the hotel, and they did as they we where escorting them back into the hotel my mate whispers ” hey Tony cop fur the empties” there where crates of empty Whitbread bottles, McKewan and other well name brands, so we pass the word to the lads to back off towards the hotel as there was missiles there, and the local biker gang where well tooled up, all we had was our desert boots :( , ok for a beach fight but useless in a parking lot, then it kicked off, it was like a scene from one of those epic roman pictures, the bottles where flying through the air like arrows, we pelted them, our bus driver gets off his mark, bikers all over the place trying to get on there bikes and offski, we make a cha harge at them, some of them do a runner and leave there bikes, some get offski on there bikes..literally, we get the birds out the hotel, the bus was just round the corner, we get outa dodge, some cuts an bruises , Sweed coats an leather coats ripped ti feck, by bottle green desert boots coverd in clarit what a night, oh and the small faces where brilliant, right, I’m off to the game, HH, have a great day lads.

Big Nan, Loved your post. I know its crazy but my first thought on reading it was FFS I hope they won the Final. Ran for my record book and breathed a sigh of relief, Yep they beat Hibernian 4-1 after a replay, McColl (2) & Browning (2). I’ll be celebrating that win along with this year’s Championship this afternoon.

    ………………………

    Glad its appreciated.

I did the whole decade of the 1930s on Wiki and enjoyed every minute of it.

There are many who put in a lot more work than me over the years but the club is worth it.

Those who make up the Celtic family deserve the best and in the CelticWiki they have that.

53,000 buns meet in the bigot dome for a ‘Buns Are Not Stupid’ convention.

Sir Walter addresses the crowd.. ‘We are all here today to prove to the world Buns are not stupid. Can I have a volunteer please?’

Ally McOist gingerly works his way through the crowd and steps up to the stage.

The cardigan asks him ‘What is 15 plus 15?’

After 15 or 20 seconds Sally says, ‘ Forty!’

Obviously everyone is a little disappointed. Then the buns start chanting ‘Give him another chance! Give him another chance!’

The cardigan says, ‘Well since we have a capacity crowd, world-wide press and global broadcast media here, I think we can give him another chance.’

So he asks, ‘What is 5 plus 5?’

After nearly 30 seconds he eventually says, ‘ Twelve?’

Sir Walter looks down and just lets out a dejected sigh.

Everyone is disheartened and Sally starts sobbing.

But then the 53,000 Buns begin to yell and wave their hands shouting, ‘Give him another chance! Give him another chance!’

Sir Walter, unsure whether he is now doing more harm than good eventually says, ‘OK then, what is 2 plus 2?’

    Silence hangs over the stadium.

Sally closes his eyes, and after a whole minute eventually says, ‘Four?’

Pandemonium breaks out throughout the stadium as the bun crowd stand to a man, wave their arms, stomp their feet and scream,

‘Give him another chance! Give him another chance!’

God Bless the wee man may his passing be pain free.

Brings back memories, now less painful, of my great nephew Ross David Owens who died of the same insidious disease aged 18 months a few years ago. RIP Ross we still love you and think about you often.
