I try to avoid those who really should be avoided but I caught the report of Peter Lawwell’s Sky TV interview on their website yesterday. The “No summer sales” headline was misleading in itself as our chief exec actually said “there is no real necessity to sell players now”.
We are a solvent and well-run football club, there is no real, or imagined, necessity to sell, but there is an enormous leap between this status and “no summer sales”. All clubs, not just Celtic, sell when an offer exceeds their valuation for a player and they believe the money could be more productively redeployed elsewhere. There is no necessity for Manchester City to sell players, not until the oil runs out in the Middle East, anyway, but they may still sell.
Best part of the article was from Charlie Nicholas, “I’m a bitter idiot. Listen, I’ll prove it…..”
I’ve translated that quote from the vernacular.
Loved newco Rangers accounts. £3.5m in the bank on 31 December, £1.5m loan since, so they have £5m to operate until the season ticket money comes in, which will just be enough, but cash burn is running at over £1m per month; close to £15m a year.
£30m-£50m is not enough.

Hope you were`t one of those frightful chaps who drove around on scooters intimidating the law abiding burghers of Glasgow.
The Fleet,I think they were called.
Small Faces C.S.C.
Very saddened to read back about wee Oscar’s plight, and the magnificent Celts and others who’ve helped him.
Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,
Celtic, Celtic on to victory,
They’re the finest team in Scotland, I’m sure you will agree,
We’ll never give up till we’ve won the cup and the scottish football league
They come from bonnie Scotland, they come from county Cork,
They come from dear old Donegal and even from New York,
From every street in Glasgow they proudly make their way,
To a place called dear old paradise and this is what they say.
Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,
Celtic, Celtic on to victory,
They’re the finest team in Scotland, I’m sure you will agree,
We’ll never give up till we’ve won the cup and the scottish football league.
There’s Fallon, Young and Gemmel who proudly wear the green,
There’s Clark, McNeill and Kennedy the best there;s ever been,
Jim Johnstone, Murdoch, Chalmers, John Divers and John Hughes,
And sixty thousand Celtic fans who proudly shout the news.
Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,
Celtic, Celtic on to victory,
They’re the finest team in Scotland, I’m sure you will agree,
We’ll never give up till we’ve won the cup and the scottish football league.
Good Morning All.
The news this morning is not good — and any of us who is a parent will look at their children and think that nothing else truly matters — even if the thought is only for a second.
Whilst those in the medical world do what they can for Oscar — and indeed Stephen’s cousin Nicola — we can only do what we can for Stephen and Leona — and all we can do for them is via messages here, text, call if can and feel it is right to do so — and of course have a wee word with the man above and his saints if you believe in him and them.
Beyond that — all we can do is be ourselves — support them as best we can and look after our own as best we can and in every way — with dignity and not a little laughter at times.
Celtic will take to the field today as Champions for third year in a row.
The club was formed to provide a relief from suffering and sorrow.
WE are the club — and the club plays for more than 90 minutes on any given Saturday.

Just beautiful.Well said.
Sorry a couple of disappeared words in the above — dunno where they went.

I left the Holte End v Stoke after an hour to drink more beer, but I’m not a Villa fan though my mates are.Didn’t see many others leaving with me.
Villa were poor against Stoke but brilliant against Chelsea the week before.
They are a superb counter attacking side when they play against better teams who take the game to them.
Paul Lambert will stabilise them mid table then buy the right players to give him a Plan B against mediocre teams who sit in away from home.He is a tremendous young manager and very tactically aware. He is currently a victim of the money MON wasted to finish 6th.
Lots of Tims in the Villa support mate so they’re not so bad.
Wee Liam just popped in….hees itchin to get heading out to the game…..wants to know if section 118 is gonna be occupied today…….any lads help him in his request

Nice, so let’s get behind the Celtic with Oscar Knox today
And cheer on 2 Champions
Will keep a smile on my face
Top of the morning to you all from a grey day in Fife, but the sun will shine on the righteous, hopefully, this afternoon as Celtic Park welcomes home the heroes.
100 years ago yesterday Celtic were through to the Scottish Cup final after beating Third Lanark 2-0 at Ibrox.
Funny how we used to give players nicknames and don’t do it now.
We only have one that I know of “The Wall” but in olden days players had brilliant nicknames.
The game I mentioned (I wasn’t there honestly) could boast of the following monikers: “The Icicle”, “Sunny Jim”, “The Mighty Atom”, “Ginger”, “Napoleon” and “Smiley”.

If you know the history eh?
H.H. & God bless Oscar Knox.
CRC/WWC/MWD – Powerful and inspirational.
Respect the warrior, wee Oscar, the bravest of the brave.
Truly awful news about we Oscar. Let’s hope he suffers no pain, and his family manage to cope with their horrible pain as best as possible

I remember a post from a few years back where you said that some time spent in an empty church was, despite your faith being highly tried, time well spent. It was your parents’ faith, and it was good enough for them.
It provided some time for quiet contemplation.
Mine too is highly tried, not through anything that Oscar,Knoxy2000 and their family have been through. Nor even,I suspect, yourself.
But it is still there. As is yours.
Your post was fantastic, mate. Your efforts-and those of so many others-have been outstanding.
Everything that can be done has been done. You should all be very proud, even amidst the pain.
Huge grey cloud over the day as I head through to Glasgow to celebrate our 3-in-a-row title party at CP this afternoon.
It will be hard not to think of Wee Oscar running up to cuddle Hoopy, and I’m sure if we cheer loud enough, the wee mhan will feel the wave of love and support from the Celtic family.
Oscar and the entire Knox family need all the strength of spirit we can send them over the next few months.

…………………….
Yes it is a hunnish trait to do that and a good job that Henke never joined them as his mate Giovani did.
But then Rangers knew all about larceny, feckin grand Larssony would have been too much but they got away with that too.
Big Nan, Loved your post. I know its crazy but my first thought on reading it was FFS I hope they won the Final. Ran for my record book and breathed a sigh of relief, Yep they beat Hibernian 4-1 after a replay, McColl (2) & Browning (2). I’ll be celebrating that win along with this year’s Championship this afternoon.
Some lovely and heartbreaking posts earlier, as a dad of 3 young bhoys my heart goes out to the Knox family.

A very moving post sir. Tragedy can bring out the best in people but it is still difficult to understand why the process is so very painful.
Just logged on and reading back at the terrible news on Oscar. Really sad news but as usual so many guys on here can put into words what I am thinking but unable to do. Thinking of the Knox family.
Just going to give my 4yr old grandson the biggest hug I can.
Mick
MWD – well said mate.
