Spinning for trouble by Sky

1044

I try to avoid those who really should be avoided but I caught the report of Peter Lawwell’s Sky TV interview on their website yesterday.  The “No summer sales” headline was misleading in itself as our chief exec actually said “there is no real necessity to sell players now”.

We are a solvent and well-run football club, there is no real, or imagined, necessity to sell, but there is an enormous leap between this status and “no summer sales”.  All clubs, not just Celtic, sell when an offer exceeds their valuation for a player and they believe the money could be more productively redeployed elsewhere.  There is no necessity for Manchester City to sell players, not until the oil runs out in the Middle East, anyway, but they may still sell.

Best part of the article was from Charlie Nicholas, “I’m a bitter idiot. Listen, I’ll prove it…..”

I’ve translated that quote from the vernacular.

Loved newco Rangers accounts.  £3.5m in the bank on 31 December, £1.5m loan since, so they have £5m to operate until the season ticket money comes in, which will just be enough, but cash burn is running at over £1m per month; close to £15m a year.

£30m-£50m is not enough.

Good luck to Celtic, Champions of Scotland, today on an occasion when our thoughts will be elsewhere.

At such times, Celtic goals boost our spirits as little else does so please AS, LG, KC, GS, SJ, CM, SB and VVD do your best to help us.

Seven games to play, twenty one goals required to reach 100 league goals for the season.

  14. I am glad that several Celts this morning have risen to the task of representing what we feel about the battle and bravery of young Oscar and the love provided by his family and friends.

My heart is clouded today, but I will go the game, and I will represent, to the best of my ability, what that represents in and for all of us.

    10:56 on 29 March, 2014

During the infancy of the WeeOscar4Life fundraising I posted a thread on KDS to highlight Oscar’s and the Knox’s situation. One of the early posts on that thread informed that any fund raising on behalf of Oscar was futile and would be money wasted (to paraphrase). The post was not made with any malice but an opinion given by a medical person who had previous experience of how dreadful a disease Neuroblastoma was and who knew how low the mortality rate was for children like young Oscar who were fighting and battling the disease. It was a very brave post amidst the many posts of empathy, hope and those offering their thoughts and prayers.

To this day there has not been a day that has gone by that I have not thought about that post. All my education and informed knowledge of Neurablastoma gained since the day Stephen Knox, or to give him his proper name, Knoxy2000, posted on CQN informing us that his son’s battle had begun has had me consider the possible futility of all our efforts to help such a special young Bhoy and his family. I imagine that many of you have had the same thoughts at some time or another during the last few years.

Sadly last night all our worst fears for Oscar came to fruition when @Wee_Oscar posted on twitter that the family and doctors were now in the phase of managing our wee hero’s pain. It was devastating news!

Now we can only hope that the remaining time the family have together is peaceful and Oscar is pain free. God bless him and please hold his family close. (My anger for the big man has not yet subsided).

Remembering back to that day after Knoxy2000 informed us all of Oscar’s fight against Neuroblastoma, and knowing so little about the disease but learning more daily, I will be forever grateful for the traits of human nature. I will be forever thankful that as beings we are able to see past the cold hard facts and are able to empathise, be hopeful, be able to offer our thoughts and prayers for whatever worth they are. Medical science is easily measurable as are mortality rates etc. But just how do we measure empathy, measure hope and measure the power of our thoughts and prayers?

There have been so many highs and so many lows for Oscar, Leonna, Stephen, Izzie and their extended family throughout the last few years that to try to measure the good will of all those who took the Knox’s to their hearts is impossible. How can we measure what a baking bee in Philadelphia, a sponsored silence in a classroom in Glasgow or the prayer for Oscar of a young child before bed did for Oscar or helped the Knox’s get through another day? How do you measure the efforts, empathy, hope, thoughts and prayers of the 100′s of thousands and likely millions who took Oscar to their hearts? Is it possible?

There is an image for me that will forever remain with me till the day I pass. That image is worth all the empathy, love, hope, efforts and the thoughts and prayers that others gave to Oscar and the Knox’s. You could say it is a £650,000 image as that was the sum eventually raised to help save young Oscar’s life.

    The image though is priceless!

The image proves the poster on KDS to be wrong!

My thoughts and prayers will be with you wee man and with your mum, dad and your little sister Izzie for every day to come.
