Spivs in for the long haul, relegate Hibs

428

Rangers International adopted a firm position in their court hearing against former director, Imran Ahmed, in Edinburgh yesterday.  Directors and major shareholders know they have a cash shortfall for next season, even if season ticket sales are as higher than anticipated.  Therefore, they know they will need to facilitate a loan, cough up for more shares or issue shares to new investors.   A few million here or there from season tickets will not change this fact – so the argument goes.

With that in mind the club is under no serious threat from fans turning towards Dave King’s glorious attempt to deprive them of cash.  Contrary to earlier reports, organised protests against the Easdales, Ashley and Laxey Partners is in no danger of putting the club under.

The best case scenario for King and his Band of Protagonists is that the club owners would be worn out by the sheer hassle of dealing with their campaign and would wilt before cutting a deal with him on very easy terms.  This does not look likely today, the owners appear intent on getting a return for their money.

At various times during the past two years I’ve offered goodwill towards Hibernian, wishing them well against Hearts in the 2012 Cup Final, encouraging them after they lost to Celtic in the 2013 Final, and on the Hail Hail Media Celtic History podcast I spoke about The Famous Five being the best team in Europe in the late 40s, but I’m all Hibs-d out.  I hope they are relegated.

50 years ago Hibs were almost the same size a club as Celtic, although Hibs were far more successful at the time.  The decades since have utterly destroyed whatever legacy left by The Famous Five.  Sir Tom Farmer’s ownership has provided financial stability but when he combined with Rod Petrie the pair contrived to bring about the most wasteful partnership in the history of the Scottish game – and that includes Sir David Murray’s years of unrestrained bombast.

New chief executive, Leann Dempster, has been more than a firm hand on the tiller at Motherwell, she delivered success over and above their station, but Hibs are so afflicted you wonder is anyone will be able to resurrect it with Petrie still in the chair, Farmer in ultimate control and Terry Butcher in the dugout.  Not only do they deserve relegation, it may be necessary for Dempster to clear-out the deadwood above and below her.  Better to be relegated than stumble on with Petrie and his Inverse Midas Touch.

Some good Celtic fans and CQN’ers are holding an event at Monroe’s Tavern in Galway tomorrow in aid of Console, the Irish suicide prevention charity.  One of the many auction items is the photo above, signed by Bertie Auld.  If you would like to help Console, stick a wee bid into ruairigucks@gmail.com .

‘None of them are buying season tickets. It didn’t sound like they are investing in King’s bank account either.

They have finally woke up to reality though.’

I have a feeling that they’re not that bothered if they suffer an insolvency event.

Their fear when the former club was in this position was that the club would die, the history would be lost etc etc.

That’s not an argument that can be advanced now.

Therefore whatever happens, as far as the huns are concerned, the club won’t die and the history will be safe.

    So why worry?

Many Hearts supporters have been in the past followers of Rangers. They appear to interchange back and forward depending on various things. There are the hardcore Jambo’s who never change sides but others have been known to go to Hearts games when Rangers are away and they have no ticket.

I suspect a few will support Sevco next season or wait and see who goes up and follow that team the following year.

This may be unique to Livingston but I have known guys in their 30’s change teams many did so in the UEFA cup run.

Crazy stuff. I have slated plenty for it. A few changed back to Hearts when Rangers were liquidated. When Hearts went into admin I spoke to one in the pub and asked him who he intented to support the following season so I could put a bet on them going into admin. The whole pub laughed at him.

No doubt there is some truth in that. But the Zombies have spent the last two years living in denial just to reach their current sorry position. I think many of them realise their stance over the past two years has been a complete waste of time.

Unsurprisingly, they don’t know who to trust, or even who they think they should be trusting. That has to be soul destroying.

  15. Geordie

    agree bud.

Tell you what I’d do to improve the wealth of the lower clubs – change the format of the League Cup to a CL type format.

Add 2 junior sides to give us 40 teams, and have 8 groups of 5.

Seed them based on previous seasons finishing positions.

Each team plays 4 games and 8 winners straight to the QF. (Effectively 7 games to win it)

    Split the gate money

You’d then have the lower teams such as Albion Rovers, Montrose et al, getting 2 games at a bigger ground, or, at least 2 visits from a bigger seeded team, or, a mix of both.

I’d start the season with the initial group games. Summer football plus the CL representatives from Scotland get some competitive games under their belt.

A small team like East Stirling or the like getting a visit to CP early in the season, and getting a payday from even 25,000 fans at CP, or 10k at Aberdeen, would set them up nicely for a few seasons.

The league cup bores me anyhow and needs revamped imo.

Yes it’s a form of communism in the respect Celtic fans, Aberdeen fans etc are helping out the lower teams by halving gate money, but it would help these clubs improve and therefore we may see some more talent come through to the national side.

Sponsors would perhaps like the idea of the QF containing potentially the best 8 sides in the country.

I find that weird that supporters change who they support on a regular basis. Certainly in England I play football with someone who will have a Chelsea top on one season and a Man City the next but they don’t go to games.

I go and watch York and get excited and shout at the ref but I get more nervous waiting for Celtic under 19 updates from GG.

  19. With Kris Commons coming out and saying he would love Gary Hooper back at Celtic, then the next day Lenny telling us all that he would like to have him back, depending on the finances,I would think that as KC and GH are mates, that the negotiations have already been ongoing.Depending on Norwich surviving the drop, very unlikely, and GH not really a first pick,I would think we could afford him.A 30 goal a season striker, yes please.

Go get him Lenny. You know you want to.

  20. timmy7_noted on

By the way is it not about time that the current hun custodians put out a statement to the fact that everyone,SFA,SPFL,GCC,the Pope, tarriers,MSM etc etc is out to get them and sign off with WATP,no surrender? They will have the season tickets sold in jig time………….it worked for all the others.
