Spivs in for the long haul, relegate Hibs

428

Rangers International adopted a firm position in their court hearing against former director, Imran Ahmed, in Edinburgh yesterday.  Directors and major shareholders know they have a cash shortfall for next season, even if season ticket sales are as higher than anticipated.  Therefore, they know they will need to facilitate a loan, cough up for more shares or issue shares to new investors.   A few million here or there from season tickets will not change this fact – so the argument goes.

With that in mind the club is under no serious threat from fans turning towards Dave King’s glorious attempt to deprive them of cash.  Contrary to earlier reports, organised protests against the Easdales, Ashley and Laxey Partners is in no danger of putting the club under.

The best case scenario for King and his Band of Protagonists is that the club owners would be worn out by the sheer hassle of dealing with their campaign and would wilt before cutting a deal with him on very easy terms.  This does not look likely today, the owners appear intent on getting a return for their money.

At various times during the past two years I’ve offered goodwill towards Hibernian, wishing them well against Hearts in the 2012 Cup Final, encouraging them after they lost to Celtic in the 2013 Final, and on the Hail Hail Media Celtic History podcast I spoke about The Famous Five being the best team in Europe in the late 40s, but I’m all Hibs-d out.  I hope they are relegated.

50 years ago Hibs were almost the same size a club as Celtic, although Hibs were far more successful at the time.  The decades since have utterly destroyed whatever legacy left by The Famous Five.  Sir Tom Farmer’s ownership has provided financial stability but when he combined with Rod Petrie the pair contrived to bring about the most wasteful partnership in the history of the Scottish game – and that includes Sir David Murray’s years of unrestrained bombast.

New chief executive, Leann Dempster, has been more than a firm hand on the tiller at Motherwell, she delivered success over and above their station, but Hibs are so afflicted you wonder is anyone will be able to resurrect it with Petrie still in the chair, Farmer in ultimate control and Terry Butcher in the dugout.  Not only do they deserve relegation, it may be necessary for Dempster to clear-out the deadwood above and below her.  Better to be relegated than stumble on with Petrie and his Inverse Midas Touch.

Some good Celtic fans and CQN’ers are holding an event at Monroe’s Tavern in Galway tomorrow in aid of Console, the Irish suicide prevention charity.  One of the many auction items is the photo above, signed by Bertie Auld.  If you would like to help Console, stick a wee bid into ruairigucks@gmail.com .

Fernandez was poor in a Hooped jersey.

MON made a raft of poor signings around then. He was certainly not the worst. Henchoz was awful.

It always gets busier towards the end as they all arrive for Prime ministers question time.

Its amazing these days how many liberal and Tory English MPs have questions in relation to Scotland these days, the Whips are out in force.Even baldy Michael Fabricant asked a question today,he struggled to read it from the email.

You reckon that is a little known fact??

timmy-7- I saw Nicola Sturgeon’s floor wiping abilities in the TV debate with Johan Lamont. I heard a lot of shrieking, from both parties, but little sign of a dominating intellect.

A floor-wiping competition for Nicola and Johann? Excellent idea. They can stage it at my gaff. Do they do ironing as well…?

  14. Don’t agree with the anitpathy towards Hibernian.

Killie in recent times haven’t covered themselves with glory and seemed to lie down to the Hun.

Let the fates decide but I would not shed too many tears if the relegated team was from Ayrshire.

  15. NTV describe Fernandez as an under-achiever. Guess AB Murdoch and Mama Fernandez are different folk.

Still I believe Willie Nelson was Reserve team coach at the time, could account for it.

    Good Evening.

I suppose I will always have a soft spot for the Hibbees — partly because of the great team that they had in the late 60’s early 70’s. I saw them many a time at Celtic Park, Hampden and on occasion at Easter Road. I didn’t want them to win mind you, but they were a good team.

If I had to choose a team to fall into the play offs it would be Killie as I don’t like their set up.

I am glad the Staggies are staying up as it is good for football in that part of the world.

Next years second top division would be even better if Sevco, hearts, kilmarnock and the dalziel bar stewards were all in it.Not really a better league just more fun for me.

Little known or little ignored. What is obvious though is that Celtic fans don’t see Hibs in the same light (darkness) as they view us. There are even many Celtic fans that are so much in denial (or oblivious to the truth) about that piece of history that they twist that story so much that they would have us believe it was the DeadyBears that poached those players.

I’ll say one thing though “Thank you Hibs! Without you, we may never have been.”

  24. LiviBhoy - God bless wee Oscar on

Hibernian could have signed 3 players who ended up at Aberdeen this season.

They tried to get Flood on a pre contract. They also tried to get Barry Robson.

In January Hibernian tried to get Adam Rooney in.

Also during the summer they missed out on our former captain Stephen McManus and the egnigma that is James McFadden.

I believe that all of these players with the exception of McFadden ended up at Pittodrie or Fir Park for the small matter of £500 per week more than Hibs offered.

Petrie has realised he doesn’t have it for the CEO role. According to my Hibs correspondent at work. Dempster was ear marked early doors when Fenlon was ousted and she recommended Butcher.

It’s going to be a long rebuild at Hibs whether they stay up or go down.

I feel for the Hibs supporters because living in Edinburgh I know a lot of them and Jambos and the Hibs guys are much aligned to our own support in terms of their personality. The Jambos have a superiority complex like our former rivals and have an obssession of hating Hibs.

I am obviously a bit bias as both my mother and my wife support Hibs and wuld like them to stay up. The other factor is that a game in Edinburgh is a home match for me. No games for Celtic in auld reekie next season is a bit of a disaster.

What will be will be though. I have the comfort of two CL qualifiers at Murrayfield and possibly a friendly before that to allow all of us to become accustomed to the surroundings.

Another wee thing I noticed today and not for the first time, that sevco fan Ian Davidson always seems to sit in among the DUP rather than his own party? He needs a visit from the labour hierarchy. Obviously we here in Glasgow know why he does it but do the party chiefs?

  27. Steinreignedsupreme on

It is now standard practice for sports news broadcasters to show ‘exclusive’ footage of people ignoring questions.

  28. Some day, Leann Dempster have have to face op to the intractable obstacle that would ultimately have confronted Terry Cassidy had he lasted as Celtic’s CEO.

That is the necessity of spelling out that those who employ her are grossly incompetent.
