SPL cannot hold secret meetings with Rangers bidders

806

All three outfits looking to take control of Rangers want to meet the SPL before formalising their bids.  It would be inappropriate for any bidder to discuss the terms under which a new company could enter the SPL with the League’s executive.  It is not their place to negotiate with the League, or to establish the terms under which they would be prepared to spend money on Rangers.

Let’s be clear about what cannot be achieved by meeting the League:

The SPL cannot give them any indication as to whether the resolutions will be passed

They cannot give them any indication if other resolutions will be proposed and passed

They cannot give them any indication on the probability of a new company being given access to the SPL

SPL executives have no influence on these matters.  From an information discovery position, these meetings are utterly pointless, there is no need for them and no insight can be gained from them.

The SPL executive cannot consider representations from third parties who are hoping to cut a deal on buying a club.  If any bidder were to discuss their own bid or the consequences of any sanction the meeting becomes wholly inappropriate.

Any meetings which do take place should be minuted, with minutes distributed to all SPL clubs, and should be open to any other SPL clubs who wish to attend.

No secret deals, no secret attempts to influence.

Warts 07.41 …….. Let’s just wait and see how this all develops. ….. The time for us all to react is when they have their contrived vote ….. If it goes against sport and justice, all honest folk in Scottish Football will react very strongly .. While some are conspiring, others, like our Board, are acting with professional dignity….

…….and I get the impression that the ‘contrivers’ are finally realising the implications of any sculduggery (the world, and HMRC, are watching…

  8. Moira Gordon has an interview with Mark Dingwall in the Scotsman

Having read the interview it seems Mark has charmed her with his raconteur wit and charm, Moira fell under his spell no mention of the word paranoia

Here is a couple of examples of everybody is oot to git us, from the administrators to awe the clubs in the SPL

“There’s definitely been a mood swing concerning Duff & Phelps and their recent behaviour,” said Mark Dingwall, board member of Rangers Supporters Trust. “We feel it has become more and more curious in terms of the time it is taking to make the important decisions. At each step of this there has been delay after delay, from the way they handled the players’ wage cuts, the handling of bids and the things they are saying about Craig Whyte.

“I have been to several meetings with the administrators and they assured us that Craig Whyte would be no impediment to doing a deal but then we see things this week saying that he will have a say in who gets his shares. I think people are beginning to question the administrators. Why haven’t they taken the legal steps needed to make sure he can’t do the club any more damage?

“There is a lot of confusion now,” said Dingwall. “The timing of the SPL decision has angered the Rangers support. Many of us don’t believe it was coincidence that the SPL unveiled the new proposals on the day Duff and Phelps were supposed to announce the preferred bidder. We feel it was an attempt to delay or derail the process.”

  13. April 1988. Quite possibly the best football experience of my life. 1-0 down with a minute to go and then…. back in the days of standing terraces, must have been swept for yards down the Celtic end terrace when the winner went in. On the way out there were guys hugging, dancing on top of motors, their owners inside cheering them on, just sheer unfettered joy everywhere :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unom8ZawIdM

  14. LIVERPOOL are considering a shock swoop for Celtic’s chief talent spotter John Park. SunSport understands Park’s five-year stint at Parkhead sourcing promising players from all over the world has impressed Anfield chiefs. And his name is high on a list of potential targets. Liverpool powerbrokers John Henry and Tom Werner sacked director of football Damien Comolli on Thursday. The Americans were unhappy after splashing out a massive £120million on new players and seeing most of them fail to live up to their hefty price tags. They want to bring in a big name to replace Frenchman Comolli — with Dutch legends Johan Cruyff and Louis van Gaal being linked strongly. But it’s also believed they are keen to further strengthen their recruitment set-up by bringing in a proven candidate to work alongside Comolli’s successor. Park was head-hunted by Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell in January 2007 after a hugely successful spell at Hibs in charge of their youth academy. At Easter Road, Park helped young talents such as Scott Brown, Garry O’Connor, Kevin Thomson, Derek Riordan and Steven Whittaker become first-team stars. All were later sold for big money which paid for the club’s training ground and stadium redevelopment. Since then Park, in his role as the Hoops’ football development manager, has played a key role in securing stars such as Emilio Izaguirre, Ki Sung-Yueng, Victor Wanyama, Thomas Rogne and Beram Kayal. All were relatively unknown when they arrived at Parkhead but are now rated players with significant transfer value

That is an accurate appraisal of the (supposed) choice facing Scottish football between justice and integrity and fiscal expediancy. It is entirely fair to state the likely loss of revenues and the possible consequences but Spiers is to be congratulated for counter-posing the total loss of moral authority implicit to their avoidance.

I detect a subtle shift in his thinking, though this is more intuition than researched. Whats missing, of course, is his conclusion. He implies it but doesn’t clearly state that there is no choice; when ethics and justice conflict with expediency reason demands the former must win out…

  17. JOHN ROBERTSON insists Rangers must be made to hand back Lee Wallace to Hearts unless they stump up what they owe.

The Jambos legend is outraged the Light Blues are able to hold on to a player they couldn’t afford.

The Ibrox club signed Wallace for £1.5million last summer at the start of the doomed Craig Whyte era.

But around £800,000 is still unpaid and Jambos are just one club on a long list of creditors.

Now Robbo fears the defender will be sold on for a fortune once Gers are out of administration.

Just like Rangers coined in £6m for Nikica Jelavic’s transfer to Everton when they still owe Rapid Vienna – the club they bought the Croatian from – around £1m.

Robertson’s old club face Celtic at Hampden today in the Scottish Cup semi-final, looking to lift the trophy for the first time since 2006.

But the Gorgie legend blasted: “Even if Hearts win the cup, the money they are owed for Wallace is still greater.

“I don’t understand it. If I didn’t keep up payments for a house or a car, I would expect it taken off me – so why can’t Hearts take Lee back? That’s what would happen in the real world.

  19. ARTUR BORUC last night revealed he wants to rejoin Celtic.

The 32-year-old keeper spent five successful years at Parkhead before moving to Fiorentina in a £2million deal back in 2010.

His contract with the Serie A side expires in the summer but they have an option to extend that by a year.

However, Fiorentina are fighting relegation at the moment and no decision will be made until they know the outcome of that.

Hoops gaffer Neil Lennon could be looking to sign an experienced No.1 if Fraser Forster opts out of a £2m move from Newcastle – and Boruc is preparing for all eventualities.

The Pole told MailSport: “Of course I would go back to Celtic. I miss a lot of things about Parkhead and living in Glasgow.

“If someone from Celtic ever wants to have a discussion with me about the possibility of it happening sometime in the future then I will listen. Who knows what will happen? It would be nice to think that it might happen for me again there one day.

  22. As much as i love Boruc FF has to be 1st option, Only if he decides he wants to leave then we go to option 2. Boruc will always be a Celtic Legend but we are building a new 1 with FF

  23. We must be at the top of our game today.

This will be a much better Hearts team ,than the one we gubbed recently at

    Beattie,Webster,Black ,Templeton.

Will make a considerable difference to the Hearts cause.

They have already beaten us this season.

They will also believe that if they beat us today ,that they will be strong favourites to lift the cup against their oldest rivals.

Only a top quality performance will do.

Gary Hooper .Too often Zaliuskas has marked you out of a game.
