SPL cannot hold secret meetings with Rangers bidders

806

All three outfits looking to take control of Rangers want to meet the SPL before formalising their bids.  It would be inappropriate for any bidder to discuss the terms under which a new company could enter the SPL with the League’s executive.  It is not their place to negotiate with the League, or to establish the terms under which they would be prepared to spend money on Rangers.

Let’s be clear about what cannot be achieved by meeting the League:

The SPL cannot give them any indication as to whether the resolutions will be passed

They cannot give them any indication if other resolutions will be proposed and passed

They cannot give them any indication on the probability of a new company being given access to the SPL

SPL executives have no influence on these matters.  From an information discovery position, these meetings are utterly pointless, there is no need for them and no insight can be gained from them.

The SPL executive cannot consider representations from third parties who are hoping to cut a deal on buying a club.  If any bidder were to discuss their own bid or the consequences of any sanction the meeting becomes wholly inappropriate.

Any meetings which do take place should be minuted, with minutes distributed to all SPL clubs, and should be open to any other SPL clubs who wish to attend.

No secret deals, no secret attempts to influence.

Im pretty sure Martin rings a bell. Now i think Hugh does! Would definitely know you you guys by face i was in there every Fri Sat & Sunday & watched all the away games in there if i wasn’t going. At the time i was good friends with the barmaid Claire, she was very much like charlotte church! Lost contact with her when i started working abroad. I’m pretty sure her family were looking to buy the place when i left.

  4. There’s talk down south of Tim Krul going to Chelsea in the summer and Spurs have been interested in the past. That could mean Newcastle wanting Fraser Forster back.

I’d love to see the big man to sign a permanent deal with us. But if not where do we go? Craig Gordon would be a great signing if he got over his various injuries and was back to his best. And Artur Boruc’s contract is up is the summer, isn’t it?

I pay BT on average about £90 per month. That’s for broadband, BTVision (incl SS1 and SS2) and calls. Seems quite a good deal. I know the money for Sky must reach Murdoch indirectly but I know the BTVision deal pissed him off so this eases my conscience somewhat :-)

It is our historical duty to score 6 against Hibs in Cup finals so we have to get past Hearts today.

Any win will do me in a semi-final. They are not usually exciting or memorable games.

People like keevins keep quoting the 1980 SCF riot, citing Celtic fans as the culprits…….strange ………… I was at the game and, there we were, jumping for joy after scoring a goal ……. Next thing you know the dust rises at the bhun end, and, having injured a few of their own fans, they decided they would run the full length of the pitch to attack the Celtic fans…. What were we to do, stand back and let them continue their rioting…..no, we sent them homewards to think again……

Similar to th Manchester riots, some media punters even tried to blame the Police, Council……. Anyone but the bhun animals

And now they want them to continue in the SPL ……. You could not make it up

  21. I didn’t here anything about Adam Matthews being injured, the team looks strong enough to worry the Hearts defence, put under pressure the minis will leak goals..

  22. Interesting team;

There doesn’t appear to be a sub RB if Lustig gets injured. And I don’t remember him playing a full game so far.

Then Wanyama seems to be sub covering both CB and possibly a midfield slot. Or possibly Mulgrew switching and Izzy on.

    No place for Brozek again.

…I guess it is what you expect except no Matthews or Cha on bench.

  23. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!..Truth and Justice will always prevail on

Neil must be confident in Lustig, which is good for next season

  24. I think perhaps they think of Lustig as a more defensive LB (I’m totally guessing here) than Matthews???? And Mulgrew will be encouraged to push the attack on his side???

  26. i hope opinion is changing and the cheater’s charter is thrown out come the 30th April. i feel momentum is growing with most supporters against a newco’s gaining direct entry into the spl and chairman’s up and down the country might not like it, but most fans will simply not accept their club voting a newco into the spl so such action will destroy their own fan base. if on the other hand the clubs veto the newco for spl plan, they will lose about 1 million a year based on current t.v deal.

the remaining clubs then have an opportunity to compete for all trophy’s and the celtic and ranger monopoly will be over, for at least 3/4 years. celtic will continue to win most things but they will not win everything. clubs like aberdeen, hearts, hibs and dundee united will automatically get more chances to win and to compete in europe, which can only be good for scottish football.

t.v money may be less, but clubs could vote for a fairer distribution of this income which would potentially lead to only a modest loss of income from this source, the ambitious clubs would easily make that up in cup final appearances and european football. once rangers returned to the spl the t.v deal would increase again, but unlike now, the distribution would be fairer, so after 3 years without rangers, other spl clubs would actually be financially better off, their fan base will potentially increase and the gap between the big 2 and the rest would be less.

the league could be extended to 14 teams with play-offs for the last european spot between 4 teams.

relegation play-offs between the 11 and 12 placed clubs, to see who plays winners of 1st division play-off.

we have all seen what happens when clubs gamble on european income and risks should be reduced. 50% of all income gained from european t.v. moneys could be put into a spl pot to be divided equally within the spl, hence, the participating club are rewarded and other clubs in the league are rewarded.

the reason the spl is a laughing stock is because celtic and ranger are the only teams that can afford to sign decent players and that needs to change or we’ll forever be a very poor league.

under this type of system i honestly believe most clubs in the spl, without rangers, would be better off, and once they returned to the spl the bigger clubs would all be far better off, possibly to the tune of 3/5 million per year. by my reckoning celtic and the returning rangers would be the biggest losser’s in a financial sense, but i also think that a more competitive league will attract more interest from t.v, supporter, sponsors and there would be more opportunity to preform a higher level in europe because domestic clubs will offer more challenge at home.

the spl needs people to turn up and tune in, i think the current model is driving people away.

  27. the Brozek situation is a puzzling one
