SPL dominoes might all fancy ditching HMRC debt

1072

It’s difficult not to associate Hearts’ owner, Vladimir Romanov’s outburst on their club website yesterday with the current issue over Rangers finances, which could soon see the SPL, the SFA and the media take sides between Rangers and their creditors, in particular HM Revenue and Customs.

Romanov’s rant on the demise of the Scottish game was ignorable until he dragged in the “tax authorities” for blame.  As you and I know, the tax authorities don’t play favourites, they collect vat, income, corporation and other taxes in line with the law.

Hearts failed to pay player wages last month and Romanov now says, “there is no point is spending millions to watch someone else’s show”.  Most of Hearts debt is owed to Romanov’s own bank but if player wages are unpaid there is a good chance HMRC will also be outstanding, explaining the “tax authorities” reference.

If a new football club playing at Ibrox is ushered into the SPL with a points tally calculated from the position of a defunct Rangers you can expect a gold-rush of clubs ready to flush their debts to the country, and history, away.

Well done to STV who yesterday revealed the actual decision making process which would be put in place to judge an application to join the league midseason or at any other time.  The SPL board, by simple majority, have the decision, while the SFA need to ratify membership.

If the SPL board vote to reward bad debtors’ shares in their league what incentive would most clubs have to pay their bills?  Fortunately, our history is more valuable than any amount of cash.

The new issue of CQN Magazine will be out next week, let me know if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

  2. The Legend Johnny Doyle on

    The Neil Lennon dissenters on here go and not support someone else, you are not helping anyone at CFC and if you are not with us you are against us. Huns on here aside; you all have very short memories of what Neil Lennon has done & been through for us since he became our Manager?

    The Huns are all out in force because they are in serious Shite and are all Shiting it. They are trying their best to defect & deny, and some of you lot are trying to gain support here (Huns no doubt) for Neil to be sacked?

    His life was under threat and all you lot can do is criticize him. If you are Celtic Supporters, get on-board, but if you can’t stand the heat, the kitchen exit door is straight ahead.

  3. M Wilson, Rogne, K Wilson, Mulgrew, El Kaddouri, Izzy, Brown, Ki, Ledley, Bangura all out?

    Oh dear!

    Mind you, I always think that if you delve to the back of the larder you can find some nice new ingredients to freshen things up a bit. Let’s see. Take some:

    :::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Zaluska ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

    Cha ::::::::::: Loovens :::::::::::: Majstorovic ::::: Matthews

    ::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Wanyama ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

    ::::::: Forrest ::::::::::: McCourt ::::::::::::: Samaras :::::::

    :::::::::::::::::: Stokes ::::::::::: Hooper ::::::::::::::::::::::

    and there we have it – a lovely 4-1-3-2.

  4. up_over_goal –

    that looks more like a 4-1-5 to me. Now I like Wanyama, but not sure he can do the whole midfield thing on his own. ;-)

  5. Man City manager Roberto Mancini is no relation of Terry Mancini who used to play for someone, but is the son of composer Henry Mancini who wrote the Pink Panther, who used to play for St Johnstone.

    Wayne Rooney, who is currently starring for Man U against Otelul Galati, is no relation to Mdme Rooney, who used to teach French at my old school

    “I’m not so sure. Unfortunately we live in a world where integrity is not a given. Is not at the root of the matter. We live in a world where integrity is compromised at every turn.

    In was in this scenario that Peter Lawwell made a case that the “integrity of the competition“ be maintained when taking his stance against Rangers and their appeal for an extension.

    I find the appeal for the maintenance of integrity to be a powerful one. ”

    Of course, integrity is not a given. But, the insistence that the “integrity” had to be preserved, during Extensiongate, was enough to ensure the subsequent outcome. Therefore, in that context, it was a given, as there was no answer to it, unless they were going to corrupt their own rules.

    The Rule book is Rangers’ enemy.

    As I said, Derry City created a precedent re moving into another football sphere.

    As to the point raised by another poster:-

    There could be an avenue of appeal to the European Courts for trade restriction.

    Rather that the Sion case working against any civil court proceedings, I would have thought that being dragged through the courts again would be the last thing that UEFA would want.

    If, as looks increasingly likely, they are going to have to accommodate Sion in this year’s competition, it would be seen as a defeat for UEFA, on a par with Bosman.

    Joe Hart, who is in goal for Man City, is not related to Mickey Hart, percussionist with the Grateful Dead, whose vocalist and guitarist Cherry Garcia had an ice cream named after him.

  10. anyone got a link to naismiths assalt on Milsom, I cant dind it anywhere but after Browns cooments I would like to see it

  11. Are Rogne and Kelvin Wilson paper tigers- always and forever on the treatment table. Perhaps it’s all that junk food and not enough fruit and veg. You could also add Loovens and Mark Wilson to that lot.

    Might have been said b4. Rogne not registered for Euro cup?? What the hell is that abt???

  14. A bit left field this one well more than a bit but enjoy a good conspiracy theory. Is it possible that the hatched plan between less than honest individuals is for Hearts to go insolvent first, the huns newco then pick up their licence and stay in the SPL not sure but is that not similar to Airdrie when they took over a defunct Clydebank.

  15. I cannae believe the panel of MoN and Keane thought that was a pen for Man City….If it was given against us when MoN was manager he would never be saying ti was a pen

  18. From STV I dont know if its been posted yet

    A financial services company is taking Rangers FC to court to recover a debt, STV News can reveal.

    Capita Trustee Services is pursuing the Ibrox club over a “commercial debt recovery matter”.

    A hearing in the civil case is due to take place at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.

    Rangers FC taken to court by finance company over ‘commercial debt’

    The amount involved, or the specifics of what the debt was run up for with the branch of Capita Group Plc, have not been revealed at this stage.

    Capita Group’s lawyer Liam Entwistle said: “It is a commercial debt recovery matter and I can’t comment any further than that.”

    The pursuing company, which has bases in England, Ireland and mainland Europe provides financial services for both the public and private sector.

    Rangers told STV News on Wednesday that they did not have anyone available to comment on the hearing.

    In September Rangers were taken to the Court of Session by law firm Levy & McRae over an unpaid legal bill.

    The club paid the lawyers £35,000 last month following the court action, during which counsel for Levy & McRae said there “is a real concern about solvency” at Rangers.

    Former board members Donald McIntyre and Martin Bain have also taken the club to court to freeze a total of £780,000 of Rangers’ assets ahead of damages claims.

    It was also revealed in a separate court hearing that HM Revenue and Customs has also previously frozen £2.3m, while the club also face a potential tax liability of £49m which is under appeal.

    In his first TV interview following his takeover of the club in May, Rangers owner Craig Whyte said the club are “doing all we can to avoid” administration.

    He also revealed that should Rangers win its £49m tax case, he would write off the £18m debt owed to him by the club.
