SPL dominoes might all fancy ditching HMRC debt

1072

It’s difficult not to associate Hearts’ owner, Vladimir Romanov’s outburst on their club website yesterday with the current issue over Rangers finances, which could soon see the SPL, the SFA and the media take sides between Rangers and their creditors, in particular HM Revenue and Customs.

Romanov’s rant on the demise of the Scottish game was ignorable until he dragged in the “tax authorities” for blame.  As you and I know, the tax authorities don’t play favourites, they collect vat, income, corporation and other taxes in line with the law.

Hearts failed to pay player wages last month and Romanov now says, “there is no point is spending millions to watch someone else’s show”.  Most of Hearts debt is owed to Romanov’s own bank but if player wages are unpaid there is a good chance HMRC will also be outstanding, explaining the “tax authorities” reference.

If a new football club playing at Ibrox is ushered into the SPL with a points tally calculated from the position of a defunct Rangers you can expect a gold-rush of clubs ready to flush their debts to the country, and history, away.

Well done to STV who yesterday revealed the actual decision making process which would be put in place to judge an application to join the league midseason or at any other time.  The SPL board, by simple majority, have the decision, while the SFA need to ratify membership.

If the SPL board vote to reward bad debtors’ shares in their league what incentive would most clubs have to pay their bills?  Fortunately, our history is more valuable than any amount of cash.

The new issue of CQN Magazine will be out next week, let me know if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

As always I have enjoyed your recent posts.

A thought has occurred to me (in itself that is a rare event)

Capita v The Rangers FC will be enacted in the Sheriff’s Court Carlton Place on Monday.

If you could make the short trip from Sharkey’s (with Isa’s blessing) and listen to what is happening then you might be able to give CQN a world exclusive. WE, the lurkers, would then be honour bound to visit Sharkey’s as soon as possible to speak to our own Court Correspondent!

UEFA have no power which would enable them to ” support an exit for Celtic ”

However —– UEFA does give itself the right to suspend the UEFA membership of a Member Association which is not adhering to the relevant UEFA rules for Member Associations —

    Thus —–

If UEFA came to believe that that the SFA was unable or unwilling to ensure the fairness /integrity of Scottish football, it could suspend the SFA’s membership of UEFA—– That would mean the end of European Competitions for Scottish clubs and the Scottish National team —

I wouldn’t hold my breath though ——Italian football has a proven history of corruption ——-UEFA has taken no action against the Italian FA

Lawell will sell anyone he can at the highest bid it’s what keeps his bonus in payment

Nice he has deferred this years bonus probably waiting for higher interest rates or a market buying opportunity footsie still a bit volatile. Sooner we chase his arse the better. He will be insufferable now that player manager has come out. Watch out for january bids for 16 year old kazakhstani twins.

  7. I heard Redknapp being asked about James Forrest. Who did the original asking? Strikes me, it is the kind of thing the Scottish media get up to to divert attention from our bereft sou’ side neighbours.

Probably because the Italian FA comes down hard on their teams that break laws. It will be interesting to see how rangers are dealt with. Although I’m still of the opinion demoting them is too good for them.

I am no fan of Lawwell fella – I regard his policies as being the biggest reason of why we are where we are today.

However, even I give him more credit than that.

He wont sell to the first bidder – he wont even be in a rush to sell. The opposite. If he thinks in the long game he will double the money on offer now – he’l hold out.

Rangers go out and by themselves a Jelavic for quite a lot of money, knowing within 6 months they could be doubling their money.

We buy 3-4 year projects for very little, hoping that one day we might just quadruple that investment.

He has deferred his bonus until no one is talking or thinking about it anymore.

Of course you are probably correct. Power may be the wrong word. They would have to approve any action such as I speculated, which, if given, would be power of a sort. Or perhaps, a lack of veto, (not Vito!) Wee Sicilian joke there.

Derry City were accommodated in the LOI, due to the adverse conditions that prevailed for them in the North.

    Precedents are there.

I agree that the SFA could be suspended and if BRTH’s hypothesis is in any way accurate, then there would be a strong case for it, then European Law on trading conditions could be explored.

Of course, it’s all ifs, buts and maybes, but that is all we have at the moment.

The one constant in my view, is that Celtic cannot continue to operate in this football community, should it be proven to be corrupt.

If the rule book gets torn up to facilitate a soft landing for Rangers, then the game’s a bogey.

    (SPL RULES and ARTICLES)

    First

Club ceasing to play and be a member of the League

If any Club in the League ceases to operate or to be a member of

the League for any reason, its playing record in the League may

be expunged and the number of relegation places from the

    League shall be reduced accordingly.

That would take the number of members from 12 to 11.

    Second

    13. The Board shall refuse to register the transfer of a Share:-

    14. If:-

(ii) a trustee in sequestration, manager, receiver or administrative

receiver shall be appointed in respect of a Member, or an administration order shall be made in respect of a

Member or an order shall be made or an

effective resolution passed for the winding up of a Member otherwise

    than for the purpose of reconstruction or amalgamation;

then that Member or its manager, receiver, administrative receiver,

administrator or liquidator or any other person entitled to the Share shall, on

receiving notice in writing from the Board following the Company in General

Meeting passing a Qualified Resolution that such notice should be issued by

the Board and confirming the identity of the proposed transferee, transfer its

Share to such other person as the Board shall direct at the price of £1 and the

Club owned and operated by such Member shall forthwith cease to be a

member of the League and the Club owned and operated by the transferee

shall become a member of the League in its place.

    NOTE

    following the Company in General

    Meeting passing a Qualified Resolution

This requires 90% of the members to say YES to instruct the Board.

90% of 11 is…………. 9.9 which means in such circumstances Celtic need at least one more turkey NOT to vote for Xmas.

If RFC are still in membership then 90% of 12 is…………10.8 so same, we need one more turkey.

I’m not recommending this but………………….. on the day of said business if a member failed to turn up (through dint of being kidnapped) 90% would be unattainable without us…….. just a thought.

It is not about “appealing” for the integrity of the competition.

Integrity should be at the root of the game and therefore, a given.

There is no case to present in support of the integrity of the game, rather it is up to those, who would corrupt that integrity, to defend their position.

It didn’t take Paul Mc.Bride much effort, albeit it took a judge to rule, to make the SFA abide by their own rules re Peat’s involvement in Neil Lennon’s hearing.

The rules are there and they are based on fundamental laws of fairness.

This is more than getting a cup tie delayed.

UEFA can do nothing else but support an exit for Celtic, if it can be demonstrated that the SFA are unable to govern the game fairly.

    …………………….

I’m not so sure. Unfortunately we live in a world where integrity is not a given. Is not at the root of the matter. We live in a world where integrity is compromised at every turn.

In was in this scenario that Peter Lawwell made a case that the “integrity of the competition“ be maintained when taking his stance against Rangers and their appeal for an extension.

I find the appeal for the maintenance of integrity to be a powerful one.

And as far as UEFA supporting an exit for Celtic. We may well wish for such a scenario but I doubt it would ever happen. No precedent as far as I know

Not a nettle UEFA would wish to grasp. IMHO.

  22. After reading today’s threads I had a look at the RTC stuff. It has always seemed to me to be written by accountants for accountants but that’s not to decry its value in providing such a rich source of analysis.

    Q. What’s the difference between an actuary and an accountant?

    A. An actuary finds accountancy just a bit too exciting.

RTC highlights the importance of European football as a source of income (even Europa money) and it would appear that CW is playing a long game and is trying to stall until the big tax bill hits and he can blame it all on the previous incumbents. In terms of dominoes he has been left with the double six.

Its been a bad season so far for injuries and im sure if Neil lennon was able to field a settled team like rangers things would be better but the coach has a big problem at the minute fighting on 3 fronts with a limited staff so you have to cut him some slack

My tuppence worth to the rankers going into admin situation. All of you thinking that UEFA/FIFA will come to our aid if the SPL allow the unthinkable to happen (only 10 points deduction), need only look at the FC SION debacle. We are coming to the end of the group stages and they might just get back into the competition. They have no clue about their own competition rules never mind anyone elses.

Swiss mafia have no interest in what happens in our wee country, they will roll along with what the SFA/SPL say.

    Disturbing but not surprising.

  27. IF Rangers do go under an re-apply for membership of the league, is it a majority decision of the other clubs or need it be unanimous?
