SPL dominoes might all fancy ditching HMRC debt

1072

It’s difficult not to associate Hearts’ owner, Vladimir Romanov’s outburst on their club website yesterday with the current issue over Rangers finances, which could soon see the SPL, the SFA and the media take sides between Rangers and their creditors, in particular HM Revenue and Customs.

Romanov’s rant on the demise of the Scottish game was ignorable until he dragged in the “tax authorities” for blame.  As you and I know, the tax authorities don’t play favourites, they collect vat, income, corporation and other taxes in line with the law.

Hearts failed to pay player wages last month and Romanov now says, “there is no point is spending millions to watch someone else’s show”.  Most of Hearts debt is owed to Romanov’s own bank but if player wages are unpaid there is a good chance HMRC will also be outstanding, explaining the “tax authorities” reference.

If a new football club playing at Ibrox is ushered into the SPL with a points tally calculated from the position of a defunct Rangers you can expect a gold-rush of clubs ready to flush their debts to the country, and history, away.

Well done to STV who yesterday revealed the actual decision making process which would be put in place to judge an application to join the league midseason or at any other time.  The SPL board, by simple majority, have the decision, while the SFA need to ratify membership.

If the SPL board vote to reward bad debtors’ shares in their league what incentive would most clubs have to pay their bills?  Fortunately, our history is more valuable than any amount of cash.

The new issue of CQN Magazine will be out next week, let me know if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

  1. Ole JohnnyClash- I thought Mike Conroy was quite a good player, probably deserved more of a chance than some we persevered with.

And I think Andy Payton, in a better team, would have got a lot more goals.

Are you implying that Commons and Samaras have been in a fight, perhaps over Greece’s response to the Euro-crisis?

I can’t forgive Vidar for the pass across the face of goal at McDiarmid park (when he should have hoofed it up the park) – but I am very bitter and twisted!!

  3. Why not let the hun teams form a league of their own where they can cheat each other to their hearts’ content.

We could easily get another 16 teams and form our own Fair Play League. The differences would be stark. We would immediately be seperating the bigots from the real football lovers, thus removing the dark, destructive force that has been eroding Scottish football for some time.

Any team free to join it if they wish as long as they aren’t on the verge of administration.

Think outside the box – and we can also enjoy the benefits of improved referees with the ability to do likewise.

No negative waves please. The bridge will be built.

  4. Sorry if I’ve missed an earlier comment, just diving in for a moment after hearing about this comment:

Ten Men Won The League, 13:37, I checked the situation out on who decides to allow a new club entry to the league and was told by a v interested observer that their understanding was that it was the SPL board’s decision.

“The allotment and issues of a Share” in the league might mean this is an exception. Will check it out.

I’m getting hammered and I suspected I would. I’m sick and tired of a squad not interested and Neil Lennon being left to speak to the press while the team are let off the hook.

I was told by a very good mate there was a scrap and he saw it. I didn’t see the point in naming names. I never said that it was a bad thing but did expect the press to pick up on it and slate the club.

I suspect that with todays photo of Kris Commons that all is well and he will be back in the team but I doubt it. I hope it has cleared the air.

Not posting a fact because people think it may be anti Celtic doesn’t enter my mind. I’m a Celtic supporter and I want to know everything about my club good and bad.

Fights happen at clubs up and down the country every day. It usually does more good than bad.

As usual on CQN there appears to be a hardcore of people who don’t want anything contrued as negative added to the blog. I would say that ones man’s half empty cup was another mans half full cup.

    We all interpert things differently.

Celtic are a club in real trouble at the moment. We are miles behind in the league we have played different back 4’s many times this season and we have no leader on the pitch. Things are not working and there had to be a reaction. I hope and pray that a fight at training is a catalyst for a change in attitudes from the players.

I also saw that post on the RTC blog. If STV are correct, then we all know which way that vote will go. Definitely needs clarification.

On a different note re the game tomorrow, a potential central defence of Dan and Loovens doesn’t inspire much confidence. I think we all know Sunday’s game is way more important. Rogne and Mulgrew for me………

  8. Kayal33 at 14:13

He was included in the squad for the qualifiers but another squad was submitted for the froup stages. At this time Rogne was injured and we had just signed Bangura and lost Shaun Maloney so as a non locally trained player, the club had to decide if they wanted to put Bangura in the squad (and got help the abuse they would have got if they didn’t and he was scoring for fun in the SPL) and if they did, a non locally trained player had to be removed.

    Rogne was the logical choice.

Under-21s have to have been eligible to play for the club for 2 years; Rogne will have been with us for that duration in just under three months time so will pass both criteria for List B. Which will be an irrelevance by then.

  10. Ole Vidar is still playing, at the tender age of 39, for Valeranga reserves in Norway Division2.

Wiki lists his positon as’ Midfielder/Chief of Marketing’.

I bet the gazebo at the ole Ullevaal stadium is magnificent.

  11. The Lizard King at 14:14

Regarding Rogne. I thought those 21 and under did not need to be registered for EUFA competitions?

Aye, but only if you have been with the club for 2 full seasons prior to the start of this campaign. Rogne wasn’t signed until Jan 2012 and unfortunately for him and us, falls outside this category and has to be included in the “main squad”.

    Mort

  12. So Rogne is inelligible to play in the EL? Why should that stop us playing him if it looks like Sion might get away with it?

If it can be demonstrated that allowances have been made which might be deemed to be giving preferential treatment to clubs guilty of riding roughshod through the Financial Doping strategy, then I would be all over Platini demanding we be unshackled from the confines of such a set-up.

Frankly, I don’t care where we end up (within reason) as long as we are free of the institutional constraints that we are burdened with in the SPL.

The fact that some of the high heidyins have hinted that we may be playing in a different league in 2 years time, that date aligning itself smartly with the introduction of the Fair Play rules, gives me reason for hope.

    HH

  16. JF – I didn’t see some of the bigger picture ramifications of this until I had a long chat with a friend of mine which opened my eyes to the dangers. We are far, far, far away from being in any kind of good position. In fact our position is considerably weakened.

The league structure was setup in favour of “the old firm”. Allowing us to vote together and veto nonsense from the rest. With them in the state they are in, needing to go cap in hand to the others, who knows what will be agreed to allow them to slide their scaly necks out of the noose. Also who knows what mad cap proposals might be drummed up by the others that the tax dodgers will not vote against so as not to jeapordise their league place.

And you know what? We can only but sit back and take it, there will be NOTHING we can do about it.

    Very perilous times indeed.

  21. The Honest Cover up…

My last comment on all of this.

I don’t doubt or disagree necessarily with any of your points. I never doubted that Fergus/Jock B were interfering old busybodies. I disagreed with one point that Kevin made….’The point of Principle’ argument.

The facts were made plain by Fergus firstly in writing and then in a broadcast interview on BBC Scotland. Murdo confirmed them and Wim refused to comment or take part. Say what you like about the ‘bunnet’ (who I have never viewed as a Mother Theresa figure – another opinion you seem to think I have) but he doesn’t chance his arm over being sued.

To ignore those specific facts as Kevin did is to me very weak and verging on the deceitful. Or how about his statement that Fergus searched for three months for a manager as a replacement.

Do you agree with that lie as well?

Go and check the chronology, statements and events of the time.

I love the search through the undergrowth for what ‘actually occurred’ but twisting what is known into what someone wishes was known gets us tangled in choking briars.

But I will take your advice and lighten up. I am known for my depressive miserableness by all who have met me. I’m sure that they will testify to my gormless grumpiness.

If our only weapon is the nuclear option we have to be willing to use it.

In the end, mate, our own club’s position is begining to be endangered by the joke that is the Scottish football system. it is already sucking us down into a black hole. If this decision is made and Rangers – followed by Hearts, followed by God knows who – are allowed to dump debt and stay competitive, the Scottish game is finished and our club with it.

That’s not hyperbole. I really don’t see how the reputation of our league could survive an event like this.

We’re faced with the stark choice of threatening to obliterate all of it, and seeing it obliterated. Our own sense of self preservation must force us to be opposed to this in such a way as it’s not permitted. If that means threatening legal consequences, bringing UEFA into it, then we have to do that. UEFA’s position is equally precarious. If they bow to Sion, then national associations CAN be circumvented by the national judiciary, and it’s game on …

This is an extinction level event for the league now. And the wrong decision will see all the dominos falling.

For our own sake, we MUST use every bit of power we have, every weapon in the arsenal, to assure a just conclusion.

Things you do when it is pouring —–

    Visit the Rennes website ——

Learn that they regard a victory in Glasgow as being essential to their chances of qualification from the group.

Note that their squad for tomorrow night is much stronger than the one they had for the game in Rennes. [ More regular first team picks etc ].

Note that they intend to ” go for the win ”

Note that Onyekachi Apam , the much touted [and much coveted in Italy] Nigerian defender —–is likely to start . He is a player.

Yann M’ Villa is likely to play —— He is a fabulous player.

Rennes seem to think there will be a big crowd . That big crowd will include @ 600 Rennes supporters.
