Very pleased we appear to be on the verge of signing a central defender, especially one who at 24 (Erik Sviatchenko), should be very much in his prime. The previous two seasons each brought excellent defensive performance records but things fell apart from the very start of this season – way before Virgil van Dijk left.
The reasons for the are varied. Jason Denayer left to be replaced by Dedryck Boyata. Dedryck is more settled now but he was well short of Jason’s standards early on. Still is. We have also regressed in the full back positions. Emilio Izaguirre’s decline has been gradual but clear. 18-year-old Kieran Tierney makes fewer mistakes and (I think) poses a greater physical challenge.
Then we have Mikael Lustig. Mikael has always been a favourite of mine; as recently as September I regarded him as our best defender, but I think he’s been well off his best for most of the season. He has been regularly caught in the wrong position and his distribution is often a possession-losing lump upfield.
Craig Gordon would be first to admit his form is nowhere near where it was last season, when he almost single-handedly was responsible for us reaching the Europa League knockout stage. The questions for Craig are what’s going wrong and can it be fixed?
Think back to the latter days of Artur Boruc’s time at Celtic. Artur has gone from having Bayern Munich scouts at Celtic Park to watch him to a guy we sold without fuss as a backup for Fiorentina for £1.2m. Whatever it was he had, had gone. I thought he was finished. Six years later he’s at something approaching his best at Bournemouth.
Craig Gordon has the best part of 4 years on Artur. He has time to get back on form.

However TDs comments today were,in my opinion, at best misguided and that’s being kind. TD is entitled to his opinion but barbs and comments like hunting CT/HT down like a runaway slave make the blog a poorer site to visit.

I honestly think that the main gripe people have with that EPL nonsense is this – the players are being paid an absolute fortune in wages for serving up that same old tripe every week.

Why do you think so many not just me don’t like him ?
Could it be that he has dragged this blog down further than anyone before him, he is responsible for a considerable number of decent bloggers chucking it and he is proud of it.
He blaws hard about defending the club when in fact he is talking solely about the board and abuses anyone who raises concerns about the direction the board are going.
He was abusing me within minutes of signing up to the blog so when you talk about no liking him, it’s simply a reaction to the abuse he started, at the time I was trying to get Res12 up and running, I went onto kerrydale street took some abuse and decided to leave it to Auldheid, low and behold the same day TD turns up on here and starts abusing me and anyone else supporting Res12, so aye yer right I don’t like him and I make no apologies for that he I,s a jealous old looser who is the way he is because he has no positive contribution to make so get his kicks trying to ruin anything anyone else tries, it really is that simple, you obviously joined half way through without any prior knowledge and seen him getting his just deserts and thought it was a shame for him, well it’s no.

This isnt about one particular poster. There are posters who I largely scroll by. And posters who, I am sure, disagree with me, and scroll by my posts. Fair enough. P67 is a fairly tolerant and patient sort … for which he deserves considerable credit.
But I had, and have, two concerns with the particular post (note … the POST …. not the POSTER)
When a poster (ANY POSTER) expresses concerns about their family, then that should not be trivialized. Family is and should be off limits, and we should all be concerned if a fan has concerns about bringing a child to Celtic.
The other issue is that, as a longtime member of CQN, what is posted on here reflects on me. For the most part, even comments with which I disagree, I can ignore. But the expression that was used was, for me, acceptable under no circumstances, and, if acceptable for CQN, reflects poorly on CQN and those who post on it.
