Stokes for the McCluskey role

846

Anthony Stokes is in the best form of his Celtic career at the moment, arguably the best form of his life if you overlook his stunning cameo at Falkirk.  It’s hard to know if this is related to no longer being in the shadow of a more favoured son, or if Anthony has just got his ‘stuff’ together, but his intervention was absolutely crucial in our only Champions League win so far.  He had all the wisdom necessary to bate an opponent into a clumsy foul.

The psychology of a three year contract, worth more money, before performance bonuses, than the player will be able to spend is not always a good thing for a footballer, but the competition for a starting berth up front for Celtic is acute.  On the back of his winning goal on Sunday Amido Balde has been talking about his ambitions to secure a regular place, Teemu Pukki is guaranteed nothing while Georgios Samaras has been used regularly as a striker.  Anthony will remain under pressure to perform.

All of this competition will come into sharp focus in Amsterdam next week.  Celtic will come under pressure for most of the game, but this is something they are comfortable with.  We will need someone to exploit the openings Ajax will leave in their defence.  Put your money on Anthony for the George McCluskey role.

It was abysmal defending by both of them.

Virgil is the new golden child, that is clear and apparent. He can do no wrong just now.

I don’t have a problem with that, but I do have a problem when the support criticise the usual suspects,or scapegoats so to speak.

MND is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone, but what I won’t do is write false feelings of sentiment for a guy i detest,if that makes me the badguy then thats ok

Totally agree. It is bad enough hearing the moaners at the game, without reading it here. My favourite player is Efe, because he has overcome the scapegoat tag. Think Virgil is our best player at the moment though.

It makes you an attention seeker. Why not just keep your thoughts to yourself?

Very disappointing to hear Peter Lawwell state that the main ambition of the club is to buy players on the cheap, then sell them on for a profit.

Within the next thirty seconds of the interview,he goes on to say that the team will continue to progress on the field of play.

    How? How is this possible?

The two of them lack ambition, both Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell.

    A billionaire like?

He could easily have paid Wanyama a competitive wage out of his own pocket, that would have kept him at the club.

Yes,the team is punching above it’s weight, but that is mainly due to the manager.

Neil Lennon is ambitious, and I am certain that he would like to realise those ambitions at Celtic.

It is debatable though,if those two characters will match his ambitions.

    RIP Rab Murphy.

Real sad day Rab used to take me and lift me over and I will always be grateful.

Remember him babysitting me after I had too much to drink as a 12 year old in London when we beat the Arsenal 2-0 early eighties. A prouder Celtic man I have yet to meet and a founder member of the Paul McStay No1 a larger than life character who will be sorely missed. Thanks for looking after me Rab and for the memories.

Ricksen was just an everyday run-of-the-mill crackpot.

    Harmless enough though.

I wish him well in his battle for survival.

you dont have to air your views on a sick man with the infererance that those who wish him well has an air of insincerity.

    Well said

In fact, not long after he left thon deid club.

He came back for a friendly (with Zenit, I think) and proceeded to kick the sh1t out of his ex-team-mates and had to be taken off, before he was sent off, with the huns booing him from the stands.

Complete nutter, but miles away from scum like goram, novo and Weiss.
