Stokes for the McCluskey role

846

Anthony Stokes is in the best form of his Celtic career at the moment, arguably the best form of his life if you overlook his stunning cameo at Falkirk.  It’s hard to know if this is related to no longer being in the shadow of a more favoured son, or if Anthony has just got his ‘stuff’ together, but his intervention was absolutely crucial in our only Champions League win so far.  He had all the wisdom necessary to bate an opponent into a clumsy foul.

The psychology of a three year contract, worth more money, before performance bonuses, than the player will be able to spend is not always a good thing for a footballer, but the competition for a starting berth up front for Celtic is acute.  On the back of his winning goal on Sunday Amido Balde has been talking about his ambitions to secure a regular place, Teemu Pukki is guaranteed nothing while Georgios Samaras has been used regularly as a striker.  Anthony will remain under pressure to perform.

All of this competition will come into sharp focus in Amsterdam next week.  Celtic will come under pressure for most of the game, but this is something they are comfortable with.  We will need someone to exploit the openings Ajax will leave in their defence.  Put your money on Anthony for the George McCluskey role.

I haven’t forgotten, I just can’t seem to locate my passport, it ain’t where I left it, Mrs TET has a habit of putting things away, and telling me that she didn’t do anything of the like, it can’t be far away, now that the young fella is away, she will have time to find it.

    BTW, my bet of the night was both teams to score in Madrid, over 9.5 and the trip to barca would have been well paid for >}

You are correct. It is wonderful seeing a world class talent in our team though. When the time comes for Virgil to go, he will generate a Scottish record transfer fee. Enjoy him while we have him.

  5. When Fernando Ricksen played for antique rfc i hated him and wasnt very complimentary about him or his mates. Since he left them, I haven’t given the fella a second thought. He deserves our best wishes and I for one wish him luck in his upcoming battle. It took Jhinky from us and i am sure the wee man would be the first to offer Ricksen his support.

Don’t worry – email me your flight number and arrival time.

Passport details can follow on later – they just want arrangements (time) for picking up the keys on the Tuesday afternoon.

A man with a few demons which we all could recognise in some of our own favourites

Let’s offer him all our support and demonstrate our humanity

I would strongly support a bhoycott on the grounds of safety within that scrapheap of a stadium (although we might give the sfa/glasgow council/scottish parliament an excuse to pay for “urgent safety repairs”

Virgil is the best thing to happen to the Celtic since ,well Mr Wanyama

He has legs like an octopus ,and they can move like that yon road runner from the acme cartoons the used to make wiley cayotee earn he’s money ,

He has strides that over take Didier agathe on the last hundred metres running from a through ball from Paul Lambert, and he was worth a magnificent £14 million from mon

Big Virgil ,keep your eye on him ,because if you don’t ,all you will see is he’s heels and dust

  18. 16 roads - Wee Oscar the Celtic warrior. on

Hopefully those clubs that are trying to sign Virgil were watching his defending when Partick scored.

They might change their minds, and he can stay at Celtic for a wee bit longer.

  19. Last post from me. I promise. Morrissey, well, I tend to believe that Celtic explored the matter and found no reason to pursue a claim for millions of pounds. What other reason could there be? I asked Canamalar about board motives but got no answer. Contrary to what Canamalar may think, I support a lot of the motives for seeking answers. However I just cannot agree with the notion that Celtic will walk away from huge compensation in order to maintain some OF. Mr Desmond is a ruthless capitalist. They aren’t renowned for walking away from such a bounty for no good reason. I can only wish you well. Good night.

Just back from the pub. Got speaking to a lass who was not too fond of Lou Reed but thought Perfect Day was ‘One of the best songs ever’ then when I told her it was about heroin addiction she was gutted. I dont understand this kind of thinking. I then saus songs mean what you want them to mean and she said she will always remember what I said about the song. Ye canny win sometimes.

It all depends what you want to believe.

The Celtic board will give nothing away, they are smart cookies, and the end game is to escape scotland, that is a given.

I believe that they don’t want to open the can, I don’t agree with it, but I believe that is their reasoning for saying nothing re the sfa and their corruption, it’s their lever if you like.

Now wheather it works out for the good, who knows, but I will tell you this, if it fails, they are on their plums.

  24. When Fergus came calling I refused to Bhoycott, I purchased the shares when he took over, but I couldn’t bring myself to stay outside. It just felt like betrayal…thank God others seen the bigger picture. If they all thought like me, Celtic park would have been jam packed every week…what chance change then?

He says that he will only respond to the motion at the AGM and not beforehand out of respect for the requisitioners (I paraphrase).

What’s wrong with opening a dialogue in advance of the AGM? Saying what happened and exhibiting the correspondence

If it can be shown that the board did all they could perhaps the motion could be withdrawn.

There won’t be time at the AGM for any degree of consideration or to allay the concerns that people have.

Of course the fact that the board hold 95+% of the votes probably mean they’re not that bothered.
