Stokes for the McCluskey role

846

Anthony Stokes is in the best form of his Celtic career at the moment, arguably the best form of his life if you overlook his stunning cameo at Falkirk.  It’s hard to know if this is related to no longer being in the shadow of a more favoured son, or if Anthony has just got his ‘stuff’ together, but his intervention was absolutely crucial in our only Champions League win so far.  He had all the wisdom necessary to bate an opponent into a clumsy foul.

The psychology of a three year contract, worth more money, before performance bonuses, than the player will be able to spend is not always a good thing for a footballer, but the competition for a starting berth up front for Celtic is acute.  On the back of his winning goal on Sunday Amido Balde has been talking about his ambitions to secure a regular place, Teemu Pukki is guaranteed nothing while Georgios Samaras has been used regularly as a striker.  Anthony will remain under pressure to perform.

All of this competition will come into sharp focus in Amsterdam next week.  Celtic will come under pressure for most of the game, but this is something they are comfortable with.  We will need someone to exploit the openings Ajax will leave in their defence.  Put your money on Anthony for the George McCluskey role.

I think the SFA should have waited to see what the

    semi-final draw throw up,before deciding the venue’s.

But you know what it does not matter……someone is

not going to be happy…..the SFA have tried to stave

of controversy and failed………….Celtic will win the cup

    anyway!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. just checking to express two things. Firstly my shock about the news on Fernanado Ricksen then my subsequent guilt at slagging off his book on these pages last night. Feel like a proper heel, I know a man in my parish wth 3 kids , he`s only slightly older than Rocksen and has been dealt the same blow. Last week and ex team mate of mine died at 54 from a brain tumour…….I know it is maudling but it fair puts all the nonsense we speak into a relative comparison.

As ever, I take a selfish slant and wish I had never had a cheap shot at the book ( and the man) simply to assuage my guilt. There is my weakness, I hope it is the only one.

I wish Fernando and his close people all the best.

  7. Virgil has been outstanding of late.

You will choose not to attend, that’s fine, I understand and respect that.

But because I will choose to attend, should we get there, then I’m a ‘doormat’?!

Davy has been the chairman of the Methil bus for many years now.

    He still runs the bus.

He stopped attending away matches last season.

He still has his season ticket , attends most home matches, but spends most if his time in the bars around CP on a match day.

He lurks on here and has posted in the past.

He was at my house on Sat night to help me celebrate my 50th.

James still attends most domestic matches.

He stopped travelling on the Methil bus this season( which was a major shock to me ) and travels on The Joe Rafferty bus from Kirkcaldy.

The Methil bus does not run for away matches and KDY one does, he also lives in KDY.

I spoke to him at Firhill on Sunday.

It is indeed a small world, and CQN is a wonderful forum.

I am still amazed that you connected with me after all these years.

    To make this even weirder.

I stopped and picked up a chap waiting on a bus in the pouring rain , at The Toll Bar last year.

I thought it was you , from all those years ago.

The minute he got in the car and spoke in a Fife accent , I knew that it wasn’t you.

At least he got out of the rain.

    This is completely weird.
