Stokes for the McCluskey role

846

Anthony Stokes is in the best form of his Celtic career at the moment, arguably the best form of his life if you overlook his stunning cameo at Falkirk.  It’s hard to know if this is related to no longer being in the shadow of a more favoured son, or if Anthony has just got his ‘stuff’ together, but his intervention was absolutely crucial in our only Champions League win so far.  He had all the wisdom necessary to bate an opponent into a clumsy foul.

The psychology of a three year contract, worth more money, before performance bonuses, than the player will be able to spend is not always a good thing for a footballer, but the competition for a starting berth up front for Celtic is acute.  On the back of his winning goal on Sunday Amido Balde has been talking about his ambitions to secure a regular place, Teemu Pukki is guaranteed nothing while Georgios Samaras has been used regularly as a striker.  Anthony will remain under pressure to perform.

All of this competition will come into sharp focus in Amsterdam next week.  Celtic will come under pressure for most of the game, but this is something they are comfortable with.  We will need someone to exploit the openings Ajax will leave in their defence.  Put your money on Anthony for the George McCluskey role.

  6. Re Canalamar, he could start a fight in an empty hoose from 100 yards….however the resolution is spot on…this isn’t about personalities or board bashing it is about justice and governance of our game…for me a no brainer….( no you canalamar…so don’t start)

Was there not a walk out during the game or before it started…might have been tipsy tho!

  9. valentinesday

Fair do’s – Celtic Park was the only option then, (60,000 same as Hampden) if they decided in sequential order that both semi’s would be in Ibrokes.

In which case through crowd capacity scope, no one can complain about Celtic getting an unfair advantage.

Where the semi final venue decision is ‘wrong’ ‘corrupt’ ‘bizarre’ ( you chose ) is because

it could be two sides who won’t even nearly fill the stadium, even if Celtic are involved, the 52,000 max may not be met.

It’s an SFA pay day for Sevco no matter how you dress it up. IMHO

  11. I understand the motivation but I am not for boycotts ( even at Hades)

Our support are considered to be “the 12th” man and have helped lift the team to victory on many occasions. It therefore stands that a full boycott at the bigotdome will mean that Celtic will be less likely to win.

If we had a tumbleweed semi and lose it we then have a scenario of the Scottish Cup final at Celtic Park being filled to capacity with (for instance) Hearts and Motherwell knuckle scrapers

This would be described as another ‘family final’

    No thanks.

Rather have a coordinated protest at the Deathstar and a Cup win at Celtic park.

I completely agree, as Tims we’re all entitled to an opinion. From the guy on my bus who lives in Manchester but has only missed a handful of games, home or away, domestically or in Europe for the last 30 years to the bhoy who hasn’t been to see Celtic in the flesh for a similar length of time. Our club is made up of all sorts, you only need to view the CQN night shift to be aware of that!!

I don’t think anyone who claims to be a Celtic supporter should be having their credentials questioned over this matter. It’s simply a case of some of us seeing things through different prisms.

    The Onlooker,

Aye but against Scottish teams we shouldn’t nee the twelfth mhan should we ?

The away support who witness a defeat are usually the hardest critics of the team, no ?

  15. I hope they never showed the Hibs v Hearts Edinburgh game outside of Scotland….a waste of 90 minutes of my life……lets keep that as our dirty little secret…..two terrible football teams…….skill / entertainment….whats that? It was one turgid affair, these teams and games should be kept behind highlights or Panorama will get a sniff of a scandal concerning a sport that try’s to pass itself off as football contravening the trades description act

Ps wouldn’t agree that the away support are the harshest critics after a defeat, although many are getting too fond of voicing their anger inside the ground. The moaning within Celtic Park at times is a disgrace.

Now a wreath being thrown onto the park might be funny, but how would you get it past the security, what if a flower arranger went and everyone took a flower so the wreath was made at the stadium :o)

We should never need the extra help

However the opposition have a 12th man running about with a whistle and a 13th &14th with flags so we might need the help.

The influence of a crowd ‘helping’ a ref when making a borderline split second decision is well documented.
