Strict liability when playing to gallery

2207

Being responsible is not always easy, especially when it comes to running a football club, where playing to the gallery offers vastly better short-term returns, and no doubt a rush of endorphins.

If your fans are engaged in an activity which regularly brings them to the attention of the courts, and your club into disrepute, it doesn’t matter what you think of the apparent offense.  You may chant an offending song in the shower every morning month, but your only public comment on the matter can be to chastise and urge fans to desist.

Clubs in Scotland voted against what is known as strict liability.  This means they are not held responsible for transgressions by their fans – and who wants to be held responsible for the actions of others who protected from personal liability by hiding in a crowd.

Part of the deal on not having strict liability is that clubs must demonstrate that they take all steps necessary to dissuade and educate their fans from carrying out criminal or regulatory offenses.  It’s simply not possible for club to tell fans their illegal actions were justified, as this would place the club itself in the firing line.

The nonsense following the Scottish Cup final is all background noise as far as we are concerned, but be aware the contagion will spread beyond those you could consider highly dysfunctional operators.

Solving Kids Cancer in memory of Oscar Knox

Our own Bundoran Bhoy will run the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday on behalf of Solving Kids Cancer.  He has put in an enormous amount of work ahead of the event, for a cause which you are only too familiar with.

26 miles is a long way to run.  You can give him some encouragement on his Just Giving page.

Good luck, Tommy.

He was offered a new deal in January

Now I accept a bit of negotiating, but why has he not re-signed ?

A personal opinion, talented Bhoy, but still not established first team player, so how much does he want to re-sign, and how much is he worth ?

Business head on – what’s the value in any deal

Now, I would keep if he signs, but value needs to be right

Incidentally, I also see if media ( some report in Celtic news now) to be believed, that Johansen wants a new deal to stay and play under Brendan

I wouldn`t be discarding any Celtic player until he comes under the scrutiny of a decent coach.

I`m reliably informed that Brendan Rogers is a decent coach.

Chris Sutton is only doing what each and every one of us are doing, offering an opinion.

Completely disagree with you on this subject.

Chris Sutton is selling his opinion

That difference is as massive as it gets!

    Nae offence intended.

No dilemma for me, Johansen can go when he wants, not for me.

    Tend to agree.

The last time Arsenal signed anybody from Scotland it was Charlie Nicholas and before that Peter Marinello.

Arsene Wenger doesn’t sign from the SPL, and the story is most likely agent fuelled bollocks.

Rogic is far from finishing 90 minutes let alone being a finished article.

  6. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

Isnt it strange that the scoddish meeja want to sell all our players for us.

They are at it every week….last week it was KT, now its Stefan and Tommy Rogic.

I ask a few obvious question: How many promising young players have Arsenal got?…and, why would Arsenal pay 7 million for a player not even established in the Celtic team?

    Im not buying it.

Haven’t commented on here since Brendan Rodgers arrived, but what a great appointment.

I haven’t been this excited about a new manager since MoN arrived, and despite his critics on here, I thought he was a great manager who brought us success, stability and PRIDE.

I didn’t really know much about Brendan before he arrived, but it looks as though he really understands our club, and has a real affection for the place.

The board should be commended for this appointment.

Also, in the long term interests of the club, we should look carefully at the Ronny Deila era, and the lack of success versus what we realistically could have achieved.

It would be easy to say simply move on, but, if we don’t learn from those events we will never progress.

    Good luck Brendan

  8. Sutton is earning a living the only way he can, probably.

    I dislike him intensely.

    Away for a long walk!

  9. Clashcitybhoy on

    On subject of press columns.

Within next six months you can virtually guarantee there will be an article with comments attributed to Ronny D criticizing Celtic.

Now, whilst I don’t rate Ronny as a coach, I do as a man, and you can be certain that something that Ronny says in Norwegian to some Euro football mag, will be “translated” , and taken out of context to fuel a division.

    Guaranteed

Probably some sniveling **** working on it as I type.

Not wanting a songs debate, but I hope the ‘Brendan Rodgers fenian army’ chant, gets knocked on the head.

  11. Happy with BR and the statement of intent—long way to go yet to repair ineptitude of last 4 years by Lawwell ( who Drmot needs to ease out gently in the next 12 months ).

Criticism of Celtic is allowed by ourselves as there is good intent behind it or frustration etc Lies by Sevco cheerleader such as Keith Jackson cannot be tolerated and it is good he is banned and he will miss his teams games at Celtic Park. However I would not be surprised to hear he makes it into the away end and take up the literal advice on one of his clubs directors on traditional singing.

Any “journo” who steps out of line with lies / attacks — just ban them —for life.

You can already feel that the professionalism at the club has been improved since Brendan took over. Any signing I think ,will be to improve Celtic first and foremost and we’ll have a consistency in selection again.

He’s brought his people and they have good experience/backgrounds, Ronny wasn’t afforded that nor was Neil Lennon.

Mistakes of the past are already being looked at and there’s not been as much as a training session yet.

PL’s micromanagement policy means that there is currently no succession planning in place.

In itself,a firing offence. But it makes him very difficult to replace in the short-term.

  23. I loved Chris Sutton as a player. Don’t like him as a “pundit”. The golden ticket in punditry in Scotland is to get the boot right into Celtic. Some do it (I would imagine) with a heavy heart, some (Andy Walker, Neil Mc Cann, Spanner) relish the task. Some retain whatever principles they have and that’s why they don’t get a gig….step forward Tom Boyd.

That is the crux of the matter and We have got better all inclusive songs. Also if we use it in our context, how can we complain if the huns use it in their context.

All Celtic fans are equal regardless of ethnicity, background and religion ( or none ) . Does that chant help that claim.
