Being responsible is not always easy, especially when it comes to running a football club, where playing to the gallery offers vastly better short-term returns, and no doubt a rush of endorphins.
If your fans are engaged in an activity which regularly brings them to the attention of the courts, and your club into disrepute, it doesn’t matter what you think of the apparent offense. You may chant an offending song in the shower every morning month, but your only public comment on the matter can be to chastise and urge fans to desist.
Clubs in Scotland voted against what is known as strict liability. This means they are not held responsible for transgressions by their fans – and who wants to be held responsible for the actions of others who protected from personal liability by hiding in a crowd.
Part of the deal on not having strict liability is that clubs must demonstrate that they take all steps necessary to dissuade and educate their fans from carrying out criminal or regulatory offenses. It’s simply not possible for club to tell fans their illegal actions were justified, as this would place the club itself in the firing line.
The nonsense following the Scottish Cup final is all background noise as far as we are concerned, but be aware the contagion will spread beyond those you could consider highly dysfunctional operators.

It is some time since I last had the chance to tell a Strandsky story.
However, every now and then something happens which reminds me of a tale that has been stored away in my head.
This one has been lurking about for 17 years or so and to be honest I had forgotten all about it.
Then, a couple of months ago I came across an American newspaper article which said that in a poll of sports fans who had been told this and some other stories, they voted the story of the man featured as the story most likely to make a great movie.
I came across the tale far away from America and in unique and somewhat personal circumstances.
This is the tale of St Patrick, St Joseph ……. and the St Paul’s Thunderbolt.

Andy F, The Tim Reaper, Marinello and my goodself are all taking part in the H.E.L.P. pilgrimage 17 mile walk round the East end of Glasgow tomorrow in the heatwave that is promised, so we might need to borrow some somebros!
Rain jacket dumped and suntan lotion packed. Incredible. Costa Paradise bound.
Over the last two weeks I have completed 108 miles walking, meaning after tomorrow I will be up to the magical 125.

No I have never told a Strandsky tale re Jack McGinn — though I have shared the odd thought or two on here re him and his friendship with my dad.
I also had a chat with Charlie Gallagher recently where Jack’s name came up and Charlie said that when he was a neighbour in Dumbarton there used to be great parties in Jack and Mary’s house.
Jack McGinn is one of the nicest and most decent people you will ever meet. Lovely lovely man.
