Strong message from Supporters Association

926

Running late today…….

The Celtic Supporters Association are in their seventh decade so have seen it all before, albeit the matters the felt necessary to comment on today are uncommon in modern times.  After their AGM yesterday they issued the following statement:

“We do not condone in any circumstances the letting off of smoke devices of any kind, the dangers to the health of our supporters should at all times be paramount in everybody’s thoughts. We have quite a number of members who are of the senior variety, and the dangers to anyone with respiratory problems are greatly increased by coming into contact with smoke.

We also do not condone the use of pyrotechnics of any kind; again the dangers to our own supporter’s health should be paramount at all times.

Finally, the deliberate damaging of property within any stadium is not acceptable, and leaves a stain on the great reputation of the Celtic Support. The seats that were broken at Fir Park was blatant vandalism; nothing else.”

I share Association president Joe O’Rourke’s hope that this is a watershed moment for the support, but most of us know at least one person who thrives on chaos and notoriety.   We need as many strong voices to step forward as possible, someone with experience of putting genies back in bottles would be handy too.

Many thanks to those who participated in our Cinc Senti’s auction, which closed yesterday, raising £102 for charity.  More on where the money will be going later in the week……..

“Yes those were the days, when you didn’t reach for your laptop, phone or tablet or whatever to see what you had missed in terms of things Celtic. Those days when, unless you were from east Kilbride, you had no idea what the eather was like there— and to be honest, you had absolutely no interest in finding out!….. Back to the days when you had never heard of Kojo and his way of speaking or writing, when no one had ever Brattbakkedinanager, would recognise a cash strapped scrofulous hillbilly outside Beverley Hills, and the only Battered Bunnet you knew of belonged to your Grandad.”

  1. I met one of the “grey brigade” this morning, who, I knew, used to attend every game. He is well into pensionable age but still goes home and away. He was there on Friday night. He had a smoke bomb thrown on his seat. He was angered by that, naturally. But what made him even more so were the idiots who had broken the chairs photographing themselves. Proud of their vandalism. Beats all, that does. And, he said, they’re weren’t an isolated few.

  2. Celtic Football Club statement

By: Newsroom Staff on 09 Dec, 2013 15:00

FOLLOWING events on Friday evening at Fir Park Stadium, Celtic Football Club today announced that it has issued precautionary suspensions against 128 individuals preventing them attending matches involving Celtic, pending further investigation. These suspensions will cover matches at Celtic Park and away matches.

In addition, the Club will be relocating around 250 season book holders in Section 111 to other areas within the stadium, or offering refunds covering the remainder of the season to those who do not wish to be relocated.

  3. Looks like I’ll need to Try to reform the ole Main Stand Choir for Saturday.

  5. I’d just like to reiterate that the stadium rules prohibit foul and abusive language.

Hopefully it won’t be long before we see people being banned for breaching that rule.

Such behaviour is loutish and inconsiderate and has no place at Celtic Park.

I see Celtic has done the inevitable. Doubtless there will be much regret.

Some folk in their single-minded sincerity forget that you don’t need to be nominated or proposed to be a Celtic supporter. You don’t need to join an exclusive, anonymous, members only organisation. You don’t need to subscribe to peripheral politics or prove your credentials by reciting the oath of the IRB backwards. In Gaelic.

There’s no hierarchy amongst Celts. No greater or lesser supporter. You elect to join and are welcomed.

You simply need to embrace the values of the club, enjoy the football, and share the dream.

A sense of humour helps too.

“Will the names and addresses of the 128 suspended persons be handed to the police?”

Where do you think Celtic will have got the 128 names? Celtic are up to their necks in the surveillance issue.

128 people have been given the football equivalent of internment. No trial, no charges.

When the CCTV is reviewed and culprits are ID’d then we can talk about suspensions IF a significant number are from section 111. That’s how justice works in a free society.

  9. Seems we 111ers are on the move again…..

Does anyone know the venue for the youth fixture tomorrow?…. oldtim and my bhoy hope to attend.

The beeb article you posted is from a year after the 1-4 game.

Also the BBC match report from Fridays game doesn’t mention seat damage either.

    Thanks for your reply.

If any of the 128 are eventually charged, they have nothing to worry about if they are innocent.

    That’s how it works, eh?

  12. 128 banned.

Around 24 seats broken (which then replicated by the miracle of the Daily Retard’s ‘calcuryewlatur’ to 200).

    The GB section decimated.

The Daily Retard still allowed access. The Hun still allowed access.

    Celtic’s reputation?

Celtic’s reputation is being slaughtered at the hands of Zombie apologists reveling in their agenda as their own misbegotten husk of a club stumbles into the grave again.

Banning 128 hardcore lads is overkill.

The PLC’s performance doesn’t even require such extremes. In fact, you’re cutting your own throat at the behest of tarantulas like Keevins.

Peter Lawwell, take a read of the Daily Retard ‘Someone will DIE!’ back cover today, 9th December 2013. That’s whose pulling your strings now.

    Ban the real troublemakers.

Blantyrekev – I suspect there will be quite a few innocent amongst the 128 but the suspension was an inevitable and necessary action. Suspensions can be lifted but at this juncture I feel sure the Celtic FC had to stand up and lead the rout of the idiots that tarnish the reputation of the club and genuine supporters. Sadly with these issues there is initially collateral damage.

  15. I am happy to see many of the GB , presumably, being relocated or having refunds. I assume there will be a dispersal around the stadium and no mass relication.

Without knowing the full facts I am more dubious about the 128 precautionary suspensions.

People are either guilty or they’re not.

My view is that until Celtic can place these 128 people into the guilty or not guilty brackets there should be no prohibition in them attending Celtic Park

The statement makes mention of us being a great club and we are that.

Great clubs , IMO, act fairly and justly. I don’t believe this action is appropriate until guilt is or is not fully established.

  20. Seems quite quick to identify 128 folks from CCTV, especially since we’ve been told a lot of them had their scarves up over their faces.

Maybe they’ve taken the details of 128 broken seats and matched them to the allocated ticket.

  21. If your caught on CCTV doing something you shouldn’t be doing, well I’m afraid your in trouble, that’s normally the way it works, if you broke a seat, tossed a flare, let off a smoke bomb, yer off the card, simple.

    I concur.

I would also suggest that a new signing policy come into place to ensure that no new transfer targets are too sweary. And management/coaching contracts must include a ‘cuss’ clause to prohibit industrial foul-mouthery.

And it would be a rather civilised gesture to start including a complimentary prawn sandwich (crust-less) with every away match ticket purchase.

Things just aren’t ‘nice’ enough these days at the soccer.

Absolutely agree, and you should not be chastised for paying for a season ticket in the old Main Stand. Particularly when you stood in the jungle for years and supported the team !. If you are fortunate enough to afford it and put money into the club , then great.

Been in the North Stand Upper (for 3 years), North Stand Lounge (for 10 years) and now South Stand. Not change me one bit.
