Sublime Celtic could break records, our DNA, spend to catch St Johnstone

Auldheid did an article for us over the summer contesting the notion that this season’s Premiership race would be more closely contested than recent seasons’. Seven weeks in it looks prescient. It’s not only that we’re four points clear with a game in hand, it’s the manner of most of our victories which is the most telling.

We’ve scored six, five and four twice in six league games, rendering the lack of a league clean sheet an irrelevant detail. On that subject, having watched Coulibaly’s goal for Kilmarnock over again I don’t think there’s much blame to attach anywhere. As Brendan Rodgers said after the game, Dorus de Vries was as far of his line as he should have been when play was >40 yards from goal. It was a Black Swan strike.

It’s difficult to say if we’ve missed Leigh Griffiths or not. We passed up a barrel load of chances at Inverness, which he may have been able to do something about, but the squad is so strong at the moment it’s impossible to say if Leigh would have been able to augment what we got from Moussa. Great to have both fit and ready, though.

Some of the football on show on Saturday was sublime. The passing speed and accuracy gave us time and space to open up Kilmarnock. It will be a different task no Wednesday but we have to challenge ourselves at this level.

I watched the Aberdeen-Newco game yesterday. For all Aberdeen took the points this game supplied more evidence that they are well short of the form which saw them as genuine contenders for most of last season. A catalogue of unforced errors saw them concede possession and momentum throughout the game.

They will still probably win Best of the Rest title, thought, as Hearts don’t seem to be able to put a run of performances together, Motherwell are far from the team who finished second three years ago, and Newco don’t seem to be able to score or defend to any acceptable standard.  Loved Souness suggesting they need to spend more money – a team already spending more than they earn!  And to what end, catching St Johnstone?  Ponder the facts behind your EBT, Graeme, then you might reassess what spending money chasing a football dream leads to.

As Auldheid suggested, these teams will take points off each other more than off Celtic. Records could be broken this season.

It’s in our DNA

74 Celtic fans have signed up to Sleep Out at Celtic Park on 12 November. Sleeping out in Glasgow in November is a non-trivial matter, but it’s being done to raise money to tackle the “torment of homelessness” for the winter ahead. Respect to all involved.

I’m not sleeping out but on Sunday I’m running the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon through Glasgow for the Foundation. The prospect feels non-trivial at the moment (though less onerous than sleeping out in November). Dozens of Celtic fans are also running for the Foundation.

The engagement right across the support to put something back in the tradition that started with Brother Walfrid in November 1887 is remarkable. We get it.

Not all of us can sleep out, or pound the streets for months in preparation, but if you can support any of these efforts please so. My MyDonate page is here.  Thank you.

Looking forward to meeting some good Tims on Wednesday, Some I know already and some I’ll know soon after Wednesday. No matter what happens, we will all still be Celtic men and wummin on Thursday morning.

Barcelona came here in 2012 and were expected to wipe the parkhead turf with us. Neil Lennon set his team up to thwart them and it worked. Is the gulf that different now?

Celtic have the capability to get a result, we just need a smart man to set his team out to match their billionaire outfit. Our manager has met most of these players before, he knows them.

I’m sticking a tenner on it anyway, might as well try cover part of my dram bill.

    Goodnight Celtic Men and Wummin.

ABC is The Australian Broadcasting Corporation – Austrialia’s Public Broadcaster.

    NOT Pravda!!!

Now let’s look at this… you have put up anti-Palestinian links before and you want us to believe that you put up that link because of “Corruption” in charities.

If so, why did you link it to allegations against a Palestinian aid worker. Dubious allegations at that.

Why not link to one of the hundreds of stories where Charity Corruption was rife and proven.

Oh yes… cause that didn’t fit your agenda

And as for not accusing anyone…

Does that not make you sick??

Yes. It really is appalling that decent people get scammed in this way.

  9. Alastair Johnston, ex Chairman of Glasgow Rangers and long time boss of Arnold Palmer’s business enterprises, has been on American tv a lot today. All gushy good stuff on Arnold. Palmer did a lot of good things with his money, but he was no saint. He was a long time Freemason and was master mason level in Latrobe, PA. May he R.I.P.

  10. May we all RIP,

Are funerals about the mourning of a life that has passed with ll the ceremonies and heartbreak of someone who is no longer here?

    Or is it

The celebration of a life that was, remembered as though they were here walking among us as we remember them, warming our hearts an souls?

Should it be a mourning or a celebration? If we cant view it as a celebration should we hear a mourning?

    do the dead care?

  11. As for Loudens invite to man city fans, and the food on offer, ” you’ve got to ROLL with it :” should be a popular tune on the night ?

Smith & Melrose….a pair of uds, nothing more nothing less.

Melrose couldn’t hack it at Celtic Park, Smith missed one of the biggest ” sitters” ever in a FA Cup Final for that glamour club Brighton and Hove Albion.

“Black Swan” ?….think I’ll duck that issue.

  12. Smiths miss came in the 1983 FACup Final I think. He and Melrose were just a couple of what we used to call in the 198O’s ” posers” !

    They just loved themselves.

  13. Over the years I’ve often wondered ” is it just me” ?

I have witnessed numerous duds and imposters posing as football p!ayers and/or managers, and I do wonder how certain individuals end up at a professional level and earning major big bucks ?

Just some examples IMO have been, McCoist, Advocate, McLeish, Wattie, But this is not just confined to Sevco. Other so called managers, Guillet, Hodgson, Keegan, Sven Erikson, Hoddle ( who shouldn’t be anywhere near the public), and now Allardyce ?

There are so many shysters IMO out there over the years, who seem to get sacked, or discredit themselves publicly only to walk into some other high earning post in football, including punditry.

We at Celtic have had our fair share over the years. There have been players who IMO , who have been, or continue to be viewed as being if a professional level, when IMO they are complete duds ?

David Luis if Chelsea ? Moshni of rankers ? Clint, Kiernan, Garner of Sevco , to name but a few ?

One other who like Moshni and Garner in particular was the Greek ” player” for the rankers called Kiryigos ? Now there was wan cheating, dud , ugly Hun, diddy who was paid big bucks by a few teams, am I the only one who could see right thru this character ? I don’t suppose so, but can someone enlighten me to this,

” Who was Liverpool boss that signed him” please tell me it wasn’t Brendan ?

When he signed for them, I just couldn’t believe it and yet again I was proved right as not only did he continue to make mistakes, but like Moshni Bilel, Amorusso, David Luis, and numerous other duds, he would always blame other team mates time and time again, whilst also attempting to con the ref at every opportunity.

Was it Brendan who signed Kyrokis for Liverpool ? I do hope not, although if it was then a man’s entitled to one or two mistakes.

Apologises Brendan if it wasn’t you ?

  15. The Magnificent Green Brigade will fire the adrenaline through the veins of the Celtic team on the pitch the morra night.

Hopefully Brendan will get rid of his scooby-doo! pyjamas before he does the team talk.

    No more naive skelpings.

    Brendan,…….learn how to be cynical.

Tell the SMSM that yer team on the pitch will be super-aggressive.

Then,….park the bus – boot the ball oot the park – run down the clock.

Just be anti-Celtic for a night and, ruin the game – but don’t get skelped, that’s for mugs that don’t learn.

Wee James Forrest might pull a rabbit oot the hat for ye – isn’t it strange how, a manager who knows how to play wee JF has arrived and,….JF is injury free ?????….Hope it stays that way.

    Anyway,……Brendan….

    Park the bus.

Boot the ball oot the park.

    Run down the clock.

  16. Good morning from the slightly chilly outskirts of Nürnberg. Last day in the Vaterland before returning for the game tomorrow. We’ve had a week of glorious weather, copious drinking and lots of laughter, including at the zombies. A mixture of Tims and Hibees none of whom like those currants.

  17. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

    Interesting stuf,reading back.

I’m immensely grateful to the poster who pointed out the incongruity of right-wing politics and Celtic supporters. You saved my soul there, bud.

I was all set for a wee trip x-country at the end of October to meet up wi my best mate and his missus for the Aberdeen match and some quality time.

Über-celt since I converted him in the early 80s. But still politically suspect. I don’t know how I would have lived with myself had I not seen the error of my ways.

  18. Guess you need the right players to park the bus and we dont have them.

It is a weak point in too many of our midfielders games unfortunately so as much as it will leave us a bit more open at the back i feel we might as well play to our strengths and give it a right good go tomorrow.

Get stuck intae them and keep going forward whenever we can and im sure the support will respond to that spirit.

Never been to Paradise for a Champions League game and would love to experience the thunder.

Its high on my bucket list!

  19. Settingfreethebears.Cheers mate for confirming matters about Kyrigas as I am relieved tonow know that it wasn’t Brendan who saw this complete dud as a player !

When I posted about the imposters and duds, I couldn’t name everyone IMO who fell under those categories, but I should have never forgot ” Mourinho”…I despise that imposter and I wish him every failure !

I am now in a rankers rant on this theme, John Brown, Derek Johnstone as a manager and so called pundit, Gregory Vignal ( who escaped any punishment for assaulting a Celtic ball Bhoy during a match), Gregor Stevens, Mark Falco etc, etc. I’m going stop now cos I could go on forever !

    Cheers again.
