Good morning from a wet Forres, shocked, where the sun always seemed to shine.
Regarding John Terry, I’d imagine he keeps himself fit anyway. I think Brendan now realises that his central defence is now completely shot. I have a feeling he thought a combination of Boyata, Šimunović and Ajer would have seen him until January at least. That’s not going to happen now hence being pissed off to the nth degree.
Just found out that I now start in Harrogate on 4th September and can make the sevco game – I’m not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.
I’ve also got a feeling Steven Gerrard’s unbeaten sevco will troop up to Paradise as plain Steven Gerrard’s sevco next Sunday.
Managed not to see most of the second half yesterday seems I didn’t miss much, disappointing after such a great start to see the goal we lost and the manner in which it was lost which also seems to be fairly standard for us now.
DB and JS should be shown the door as soon as possible, neither of them should ever play in our jersey again, Brendan talked about pride last night and getting players in that want to play for Celtic. These two obviously don’t so GTF for them both.
Whoever does come in at centre half should be ready for the ole baptism of fire against the Orcs, so think on who we sign please.
A lot has been said about our defence and with good reason but our midfield set up away from home in Europe is giving me cause for concern, we’re not a solid unit and haven’t been for a long time, I’ve said before I’m not sure about SB and ON in their current position playing together and I stand by that, in games like last night I’m expecting a lot lot more from Oli and if he’s not the guy to run a game like last night then who is, we’re still one short in midfield in my opinion..
We’ll go through I’m pretty sure but the group stages will be pointless if this depression surrounding the players and manager is not lifted.
We have a talented bunch at Celtic who need reinforcements if they don’t come it could be a long season to the 8.
And I wish to God that folk would stop obsessing about 10 when 8 is not even sure the way things are at the moment.
We finished last season fairly flat performance wise and it’s good to remember this group has played a lot of football, they’re not machines so again some freshness to the squad would give everyone a lift.
For Brendan to mention he felt sorry for the fans who made the journey last night shows exactly what he thought of our performance and that has to be translated to the players, those who are not good enough have to be let go and the sticking plaster effect of players like Gamboa etc has to be over.
We need a Micheal Lang type Full back who will come in and be reliable week after week and if the scouts can’t source the players or the board can’t get the deals done then we are opening the door for disaster to rush in, starting next week against the Orcs, who are already baying for blood.
This window has already become a millstone round our necks going into the rest of the season but it’s not to late for everyone to do their feckin’ jobs and get it back on track..

Seems to me we’re always just a couple of defeats away from a crisis ( in the eyes of some, including SMSM ).
Imwould look at it the other way. We’re only a couple of wins away from getting back on track, and we have two eminently winnable games coming up before the new team come to Celtic Park. Yes, they’ve signed a lot of ‘new’ players, but that doesn’t mean they’re any good. They’ll be very physical, but for me, we have better players, who look like they’re a little out of sorts. Two wins in the next two games will get some confidence back, and they’ll need no motivating to face the media darling’s rabble.
Reasons to be cheerful.
Mikey Johnstone had a very good European debut, before fading in the second half.
Ntcham had a very good first half and bossed the game with Broonie, including scoring our goal, and looking delighted to do so.
Moussa played 90 minutes and isn’t injured.
We’ve played 7 games in Europe against the Champions of 4 countries, and lost only one, in which we played better football, created more chances, and should probably have won.
And finally……
The transfer window is still open and we have shedloads of money to spend ?
Glass definitely half-full in Sunny Aberdeen today.
A couple of posts with a bit of realism. We are 2 defenders away from being stronger than last year (RB and CH) and anything else is a bonus.
The thing I find most alarming about the majority of posters who (quite rightly) show concerns about the defending and losing stupid goals is this: there is no mention of our horrendous goals to chances created ratio. Quite simply, we are creating a significant number of chances but not taking them. This is a big worry.
Over 2 games against AEK we created 38 shots on goal with 14 on target and only scored twice. That’s a very worrying statistic. We need to take more chances and score a lot more goals which in turn deflates the opposition and relives the pressure on a very young defence (Ajer, Hendry, Tierney). Unlike others, I reckon Jack Hendry will develop into a very good player; the difficulty just now is that his confidence is shot to pieces and he is the current escaped goat for many. An experienced CH and a good, solid right back (it may turn out to be Gamboa) will significantly change our prospects.
Middle of the park we are good and create a lot as well as adding goals. If the team settles down a wee bit with 2 clean sheets and plenty of goals against Hamilton and Suduva then confidence will build for our home game against the Orcs. By then we will know our full squad for the first part of the season and we are still a better team than them so we need to prove it!

We’re not plating as a team at the moment. For whatever reason there is unrest in the dressing room, too many rumours of wantaways and/or favourites. Gamboa although good going forward is not a defender. Ntcham gives the ball away far too often and even passed straight to one of their players from 10 yards last night. Sometimes you get caught out too far up the pitch and lose a goal but to lose a goal when you are all supposedly in position for a free kick is criminal. Just watched it again and how we all just stood and watched the ball floating over their heads was criminal.
Having said all that we should beat them comfortably at home next week.
The hysteria in the papers surrounding Sevco is something to behold. A very slim 1-0 lead to take to Russia will not be enough yet the papers are full of it. Build em up, an watch em fall.

You’re right there are lots of positives when you step back and take a breath. We just desperately need a new RB and CB.
That’s where we’re really missing an on form Scott Sinclair???
On his day he’s a terror and creates a lot bringing others into the game, upfront again last night Moussa looked very isolated and James was frozen out on the sidelines…
The fact that SS didn’t even get on the park last night is concerning for me:((

Getting some central defenders in would enable Ajer to replace Gary Armstrong in midfield. That’s his real position, I believe. He made a great run into the Sudova penalty area. I don’t see others doing that.
There were a couple of times when KT was through last night and I was shouting shoot but he elected to pass and it came to nothing. Strange when you consider the four belters he scored last season.
But when a team is not playing with confidence players in good positions don’t shoot, they pass (the buck) or they then shoot out of desperation and it goes wildly wide or over (Wee Jimmy) and then we don’t convert our ball time, space created nor shots on goal to goals.
An on-form Sinclair would be most welcome! The young lad Johnstone did well last night but is still inexperienced. Maybe a place in the stands watching Johnstone will spur Sinclair on to replicate his previous form. I certainly hope so. Despite a bad season last time, he still was our top scorer I believe. Not bad for a pish season!
Just checked in to the BBC Teletext Sports Headlines.
Second and third topics were as follows, ” Gerrards Rangers close in on group stages” then next item “Maybe I expect too much, too soon” say Gerrard. Our mention was on the next page, FFS.
There is nothing we can do to stop this building up of them and the ever knocking of us, nothing apart from give them a right good doing next week, but tat would only be temporary.
I can’t understand why, when Celtic had the best defensive record last season, we are so bad. It simply has to be our midfield who are not helping as they should be. OK, I know our CB’s aren’t the best but to be fair, they get little protection from our midfield. We desperately need a a creative middy, like now man!!!!

He’s the love child of GMS and Stuart Armstrong ?
Oh dear, that should have been Stuart Armstrong.
In the interests of better communication between our defenders, all of them will be known as Gary from now on.
Arguably Scotland’s best ever scrum half.
A wee arse kicker from the borders who didn’t know what ‘give up’ meant.
Exactly the kind of character we could do with.
