  1. Personally I thought Nitcham was bloody awful tonight and quite a few of oue problems stemmed from him.

However that team was gash and I have no doubt we will put a right good few past them next week.

  4. BMCUW,

Re Laffatme, I’m sure the relevant Association will make sure all is in ‘order’

For the qualifying phase and the play-offs, a club may register a maximum of two new eligible players on List A after the above-mentioned deadlines, provided the quota of locally trained players is respected. Such registration must be completed by 24.00CET on the day before the relevant first-leg match and the club’s association must confirm in writing that the new player is eligible to play at domestic level at this time.

  5. Bad apples need to go and go quickly otherwise the bad attitude spreads like a disease. PL is obsessed over ‘value’, everything is about value. In this case i couldn’t give a toss about value, get rid of Boyata and Simunovic by hook or by crook, send them on loan to Timbuktu or anywhere else, just get them out of the dressing room.

  6. What a load of bollocks I have read tonight. Celtic, if they had taken their chances should have been well ahead by half time. In the second half they threatened us very little. We will skoosh this next week. Whats the problem jeezo ?

  7. TGBS

“Now there are a cohort of players who are being signed for the primary purpose of generating a handsome profit when sold on.”

    I don’t believe that’s true.

I think it is a distortion of reality. It’s mistaking an outcome for an intention. It’s mistaking the inevitable outcome of our position in the trading market for a deliberate choice to chase money. It’s mistaking being Scottish and peripheral for being deliberately mediocre and unambitious.

The reality is that the players are signed with the view that thye will p;lay well for Celtic.

If they play well for Celtic, they will attract big money bids from the bigger leagues.

    That is a win:win situation.

We get the benefit of their good play and their contribution to titles and cups won, and then we get a profit when they leave (which we need to offset against the punts that did not turn out well)

The alternative is to sign players who are less good who attract less interest and will, therefore, stay with us for longer but we risk losing some of the titles and trophies we could have won because they were not as good prospects. And we lose out on transfer fees when they leave.

I don’t see any scout or any club with the superhuman ability to only pick winners so we will have to continue to thole this list of winners and losers in the transfer market. Unless Captain Hindsight replaces Lee Congleton.

And it does not matter if its young guys who costs little like Kris Ajer & Moussa or young guys who cost a lot like Ntcham or Boyata or McGinn or older guys who come with hefty costs, like the list I provided.

    They are all prospects.

Who can tell if they will turn out like Robson & Hartley or be like Makay Stevens and Scott Allan?

Who can tell if they will be Marc Reiper or Rafael Scheidt?

    Lubo Moravcik or Thomas Gravesen?

    Alan Thompson or Jiri Jarosik?

    Fraser Forster or Dmitri Kharine?

If you know someone who can, get them scouting for Celtic because we are making too many trading mistakes just now.

  8. If dons had beaten sevco in all league games last season I think they’d have won the league by a couple of points so this crap has been in the post for a while now too many of us caught up in the invincibles double treble pish. For me it’s always about winning the league. Even Ronnie Deila managed that.

  9. Some sad bitter folks coming out like Dracula on here.

Past few years success for celtic must have been tough for some folk. Really tough.

I reckon most folk apart from the BBC see an away score draw as a better than a one nil home win but that doesn’t fit the narrative.

The same narrative a few bitter little celtic consumers seem to want to perpetuate on here too. Faithful through and through. Yeah right.

    Agree with that

We need to find a way to turn over several players

I have been forgiving of Simonuvic, he needs to play back into some form

    Listening to Brendan

Time to move him on along with Boyata,

My concern is that I am seeing disturbing similarities between RD’s two seasons and what we are seeeing now…

in RD’s first season, the players were fitter than I had seen them… but by the second season, they all looked disinterested and clearly were not following orders … frankly, it looked like most of the players had quit on RD… which I never want to see

I understood that the players were not happy with some of RD’s ideas… also, once it became clear that he would not be staying, some of the players may have figured ‘why listen to that guy? he wont be here next season?

first season under BR, the players were fit and motivated and played a good pressing game with a fair bit of movement…. last season, I thought we would kick on, but, in spite of the results, the style of play seemed to take a step back, and less pressing, and more side to side … players didn’t work as hard as they did the first season …

this season, I am getting echos of RD’s second season … even less urgency than last season …. and BR all but came out tonight and said the players didn’t to what he told them … have they stopped listening? I hope they dont stop listening to BR like they listened to RD

we got away with it in RD’s second season, because there was n o competition … if the players aren’t listening to BR, we may not get away with it this season…

Guys who know how to do their jobs. Killie might play ball but I doubt Eastern Star Annie would be willing to help those pesky Fenians out.

But still need someone who can drive these guys on, a seasoned professional.

  16. Our poor attitude and lack of zest (young MJ excepted) let us down.

BR has evidently yet to learn from Lenny and Strachan what constitutes a winning set-up in Europe.

Up against superior opposition, Lenny and Strachan’s teams would start like hungry greyhounds out the traps – tempo, tempo, tempo, hunting down and zipping the ball around like their careers depended on it; THAT was the only way we could compete with some of the class sides we beat – get on it form the off, which is how you match better players.

It is also how you blow away lesser sides.

Tonight – we couldn’t win our own training game.

That side are, what is referred to by French courtesans as, ‘pish’.

However, we let them live. Like some benevolent, bloated Roman Emperor with the gladiator on the deck we contrived to flip the thumb up and give them a lifeline.

BR? Not performing in Europe. Deila-esque decision-making. Sainthood among some of the support? Aye, but there are cracks.

He’s feeling the pressure of being Celtic boss. It’s not coming from the shambles in Govan; it’s coming from the stagnant Celtic squad of present; a collection of talent believing their own hype as double trebles got racked up.

It’s up to the boss to inject the enthusiasm, manipulate the mindeset from complacent, knowing arrogance to WINNING arrogance – now in the difficult third season, two entirely different states; requiring a competitive hunger and drive to transition between.

Ironically, the cheeky Hun Monkeys that continue their tiresome denegration of the Hoops were proven straw men tonight – watched the Huns toil against a side not much better than Progres last season.

if Celtic cannot comfortably savage Slippy G’s Band of Mothers next Sunday we might as well pack it tin.

But it WILL require an effort from the players to elevate both their physical and mental approach.

BR has a big part to play in that. Get the job done.

Here’s your delusion at Scottish BBc level after tonight’s respective results:

“Rangers have one foot in the Europa League group stage”

“Celtic’s defensive difficulties were exposed again”

Keep it up, Hun Monkeys; popcorn in for the crash to Earth.

  17. Clearly we have a serious problem in defence, and need to get 1 (or probably 2) new players in there asap.

BUT…. This defensive issue is smokescreening another problem. Brendan CLEARLY said he wanted to add Quality to the squad. Brendan then lost Stuart Armstrong and publicly said he wanted another midfielder… John McGinn. McGinn did not join – so who the eff is our Plan B?????

Are we really so unprofessional that we let a midfielder go, moved to replace him…. And do not have a depth chart of midfielder targets whereby we simply move to option 2 when option 1 fails?

We did honestly sell Armstrong for that money without an adequate plan to replace him. Did we?

  18. Anybody else notice that KT refuses to use his right foot to play even the simplest of passes. Instead he will go full circle using his left foot.It doesn’t half slow down the pace of the game at times.

Amazing what you notice when you look to your big players to drag the team up by the bootlaces.

  19. Neganon2; your full of shite. Fuck off. Sorry I have enough of your pish. Your at it. If your a Tim your a delusional idealist, radial fundamentalist, equally of little value to an imposter…. But I doubt it’s that.

we lost a horrendous goal tonight again

    ——-

Bloody hell…..their crappy punt for the goal was in the air so long it could have been half time before it came down.

Might as well have been….either way, none of our guys were anywhere to be seen!!

Our decline up front, in scoring and creating

Is just as much a concern

Agreed but at least not conceding on around 50% of opponents attack would take the pressure off.

Our system and tempo makes it hard for our attackers to find space as our ponderous build up allows opponents time to pack defense.

We have quality attackers who receive poor service.

Our system and poor set up bear responsibility for us struggling at both ends of the field.

We create little space for ourselves and create plenty for opponents.

We can’t take or defend set pieces and our throw ins are just a prelude to our opponents receiving the ball.

The biggest problem with this team is spacing particularly in the central areas.

We are never close enough to our defense or attack leaving opponents acres of space to exploit.

    Ballwatching is also a problem.

In the second half Gordon made a great save down low and to the right which resulted from a cutback to edge of box .Our fullback failed to cut out cross by being to far away to stop it(which is all to typical) and the centre back who was covering running away from player he was marking to chase cross again typical.

Most of the above are coaching problems as they have been consistently not addressed.

Many people saying Brendan is great as an attacking coach are failing to recognize we are not.

We have the personnel to score plenty but the poor service by a system and style based on purposeless possession does more to nullify their talent than any opponent will.

  22. The Battered Bunnet on

There have been many thousands of knockout ties in European football competition since the introduction of the away goals rule 50 years ago.

Of course, the Game has evolved over that period of time, as teams have come to terms with the optimal approach to progressing through such ties.

Over the course of the past 40 years, the following results in the first leg give the subsequent odds for the original home team in the second leg:

    4-0 100%

    3-0 92%

    4-1 90%

    2-0 82%

    3-1 79%

    1-0 61%

    2-1 49%

    3-2 44%

    0-0 33%

    1-1 25%

    0-1 11%

    2-2 9%

    1-2 6%

    2-3 3%

    1-3 2%

    0-2 2%

    0-3 0%

Off the top of my head, Celtic have had 11% (Dynamo Moscow) and 9% (Ajax) probability wins, and a 79% (Basel) loss. I’m sure there are other results against the odds.

  23. N’tcham has the potential to be a world class player. However, when he’s in the team and doesn’t perform we struggle to get a result. I don’t what that really says about him, maybe it’s just the position he plays in. But it’s noticeable when he’s on form we look like we can beat anyone but when he’s not we struggle to create.

  24. Šimunović has obviously been reading The Big Belgian Book of Lame Excuses and has downed tools as well. It is time for Brendan to get out the Fergie Hairdryer and blow these imposters out of the Club. He seriously needs to nip this in the bud now. He made a schoolbhoy error/fatal mistake of bringing Boyata back into the fold to be repaid by the same (in)action as before.

Some players will have seen this as a sign of weakness in the manager’s part. He needs to learn from this and not make that mistake ever again. If he believes Šimunović could have played on then like Boyata he should never wear the Hoops again.

  25. MIT

All good thanks, hope same with your good self and Seamus keeping you busy ?

Please let Dan and Waheed know their in our thoughts

    Hail Hail & Nytol

  26. I see in Celtic a leadership that has a good over all strategy and a few tactical things to fix. The club is well run, long term we are in great shape. Short term we have some tactical decisions wrong and need to fix. Contrast that to the team with no strategy and a short term plan. Howeva…. the poor short term plan is losing the Bhoys and Ghirls, which jeopardises the strategy. So it needs a quick fix now. But Step back, we are in great shape.

  27. Simunovic coming off made sense if there was any chance of aggravating an injury. It was quite clear we are leagues better than them and losing another CB would have been worse at this stage than mildly upsetting the shape of the team.

I wouldn’t even have them down as SPL relegation standard.

  28. EMBRAMIKE

I think KT has regressed in the last season and it’s down to coaching instruction.

Tonight particularly in second half he had space to attack in front of him but stopped swiveled back and hit pass to the centre half.

Last week he only showed up against AEK when we went two down at which point he started driving forward and created our only goal and almost created an equalizer.I wondered if he had decided to ignore coaching instructions and just go for it.

This is not a reaction to tonight or last weeks performance as i aired the same concerns last season.

I personally think that although aspects of his game have improved by coaching it’s been detrimental to his value to the team and his overall game.

  29. Delaneys Dunky on

  30. At the 60th minute tonight I sent the following text to my son “Gamboa off – brill on Sat but having a mare tonight. Move Lustig across to right back, move Tierney in one and put on Izzy as left back. Oh and while we’re at it, hook Johnstone for Griff and go 2 up top.”. Brendan did exactly that about 5 minutes later. So I can hardly complain!

We WILL qualify for the group stages. But to proceed further depends on the next 8 days.

  31. Jinkeynewton. Classy man. Classy.

And sure we are in great shape……..

    Ah the classics.

Next paul67 will be a progressive force for good rather than a regressive force for cheating.
