Sunshine amid murky football shadows

771

Before we get down to less important matters, let me know, did you buy Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas?

There are so many reasons to be cynical about football people (players, directors and fans alike) in the modern era it is scarcely worth listing them but occasionally a pillar of strength comes along and changes all the rules.

This morning’s headlines that Georgios Samaras has attracted interest from an English slumbering giant is reason enough to highlight the dedication of this model professional.  Georgios arrived at Celtic on loan in January 2008 and was instrumental in the historic league win that year.  When he completed his permanent transfer from Manchester City he took an enormous cut in wages because he wanted to be a Celtic player.

Thanks for the great support for the CQN Annual. You can order online here, time is running out for shipping before Christmas!

His talent and effectiveness has meandered, a bit like those looping runs he would go on with the ball, since then and for a while he was subject to considerable abuse from ‘supporters’.  At one point he had the chance to leave but his message to Celtic was simple, ‘If you want me to stay, I’ll stay and fight for my place.  This is my club’.

The story of the rebirth of Celtic is also the story of the rebirth of Georgios Samaras.  He is the epitome of the modern footballer: strong, skilful and intelligent, he would get into any top squad in Europe.

There is no chance of him going to England, Celtic will not sell him and even if they accepted a bid, the player shows no inclination of wanting to leave.  He is currently prime candidate for Player of the Year and is our most feared player in the Champions League.

You have six days to buy Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas in support of Celtic Charity and Teenage Cancer.  This is what we’re all about, don’t talk to me about football until I hear from you on the subject that really matters.

Georgios Samaras and Fraser Forster are a useful reminder of how ignorant and intolerant the Celtic support can be.

  4. I just came on and thought it was a wind up but obviously not. From Evening Times for those who haven’t seen the story. Apparently it is in the prospectus:

    “Rangers face player tribunal threat

Rangers say they face a potential employment tribunal involving 67 players in relation to an alleged failure to inform and consult over the transfer of contracts from the old company to Charles Green’s new company.

In their share issue prospectus, Rangers declared that PFA Scotland had raised the claims and that they would “robustly” defend themselves.

The prospectus also states that former Ibrox players Sone Aluko, Kyle Lafferty and Jamie Ness have raised constructive dismissal claims.

The three players were among nine who refused to transfer their contracts over to Green’s company, which bought the club’s assets and business after oldco Rangers, now called RFC 2012, were consigned to liquidation in June.

    PFA Scotland declined to comment.

But it is believed the claims were brought in a strategic move as part of an arbitration battle between the club and players’ union, which will be decided by the Scottish Football Association.

Rangers are demanding compensation over the Ibrox exit of six of the players who declined to join the new company.

The prospectus says: “PFA Scotland has raised an employment tribunal claim against RFCL (The Rangers Football Club Limited) on behalf of 67 unnamed players at the employment tribunal in Glasgow.

“The claim relates to an alleged failure on behalf of RFC 2012 plc to inform and consult with affected employees prior to the TUPE transfer on 14 June 2012.

“Both RFCL and Rangers 2012 plc have been cited and compensation can be awarded on a joint and several basis.

“RFCL’s advisers have taken issue with PFA’s right to bring such a claim on behalf of the players.

“Senior counsel’s advice has been taken on the matter and a robust opinion has been given to the effect that PFA Scotland has no locus or standing to raise such a claim.

“If RFCL’s preliminary challenge to the bringing of this claim is successful that will be the end of the matter. It is not currently possible to quantify these claims in full.”

Rangers say they have also challenged the right of Aluko, Lafferty and Ness to bring claims, but added that “in any event these are low value claims” with the club’s advisers suggesting they have been brought for “tactical purposes” ahead of the SFA hearing.

Aluko signed for Hull, Ness left Ibrox for Stoke and Lafferty went to Swiss side Sion after the club lost their battle to come out of administration via an agreement with creditors.

Deals were agreed with clubs after Steven Davis, John Fleck and Rhys McCabe left but a complaint against a total of six registration transfers will be heard by an SFA panel, including those involving Allan McGregor, Steven Naismith and Steven Whittaker.

The complaint was made by oldco Rangers and the newco club say the players’ representatives have challenged their right to participate in the process given the new regime did not have SFA membership at the time of departure.

Rangers said a preliminary hearing had been fixed for January 7 with a full hearing expected in March or April if they win the right to continue their challenge.”

Maybe this we action from the 67 is not just much ado about nothing .The spl squad list for season 2011/2012 shows only 58 players and there are many obscure names on the list ,that leaves 9 unaccounted for outwith this list ,I wonder what sanctions Chuckles will propose against these 67 players who are hell bent on kicking sevco when their down

Our Rod Stewart is the features artist this week here in the USA on the Starbucks digital network with his free song Silent Night. Lyrics are rumoured to be about a mythical character Minty Moonbeams and his magical kingdom. Lots of pounding on his Celtic crest base drum during the number apparently.

Pinch me. I’m in this looping dream that we qualified out of the CL against free spending opponents such as Spartak Moscow, Barca and Benfica. I’ll wake up soon surely though.

On young Fraser. According to Pa Broon he wants to test himself in a different football environment. That would seem to rule us out but sevco in the 4th tier might fit the bill. :) Seriously though signing him and loaning him back to the sheep might be a good option for all. In 18 months time we take mega bucks for Jamesy and have a ready made replacement, 19 years old and a couple of seasons of first team football under his belt.

I used to live in Polkemmet Rd and would regularly bring up a flask of warm tea to the picket line. My ma had the kettle on all day.

I have always despised the police ever since.

Many thanks for that on behalf of those who picketed Polkemmet.

Yeah they have also been told to join the que behind HMRC, Ticket Us & The 300 or

so Business’s that are all in the same boat as regards to outstanding debt from Liquidation FC Also with Sevco/Delusional FC claiming Liquidation FC 140 Year History

So is Delusional FC & Mr Chuckles willing to pick up the £150,000,000 Debt Tab that was

left behind by Liquidation FC? No chance. They can’t have it both ways. They are meant to
