Sunshine amid murky football shadows

771

Before we get down to less important matters, let me know, did you buy Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas?

There are so many reasons to be cynical about football people (players, directors and fans alike) in the modern era it is scarcely worth listing them but occasionally a pillar of strength comes along and changes all the rules.

This morning’s headlines that Georgios Samaras has attracted interest from an English slumbering giant is reason enough to highlight the dedication of this model professional.  Georgios arrived at Celtic on loan in January 2008 and was instrumental in the historic league win that year.  When he completed his permanent transfer from Manchester City he took an enormous cut in wages because he wanted to be a Celtic player.

Thanks for the great support for the CQN Annual. You can order online here, time is running out for shipping before Christmas!

His talent and effectiveness has meandered, a bit like those looping runs he would go on with the ball, since then and for a while he was subject to considerable abuse from ‘supporters’.  At one point he had the chance to leave but his message to Celtic was simple, ‘If you want me to stay, I’ll stay and fight for my place.  This is my club’.

The story of the rebirth of Celtic is also the story of the rebirth of Georgios Samaras.  He is the epitome of the modern footballer: strong, skilful and intelligent, he would get into any top squad in Europe.

There is no chance of him going to England, Celtic will not sell him and even if they accepted a bid, the player shows no inclination of wanting to leave.  He is currently prime candidate for Player of the Year and is our most feared player in the Champions League.

You have six days to buy Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas in support of Celtic Charity and Teenage Cancer.  This is what we’re all about, don’t talk to me about football until I hear from you on the subject that really matters.

    SAFC statement

    Posted on December 10th, 2012 at 22:14

It is disappointing in the extreme that a headline arising from Saturday’s game versus Rangers should be in connection with one of our young fans being struck by a coin rather than the focus being about our battling performance that arguably came within a couple of inches of pulling off a remarkable draw.

I have spoken this morning with the Head of Security at Rangers FC and I have been assured that he is fully aware of the incident that took place, during the half time interval, having been advised by the Police.

A full investigation is being undertaken, including a review of the CCTV footage.

The Police are treating this as criminal offence and if the individual(s) concerned can be formally identified, further action will be taken. Rangers have also given me the assurance that anyone found guilty of such an offence will be banned for life from attending matches at Ibrox.

I will communicate further on this matter when the outcome of the investigation is known.

In the meantime, I’ve been in contact with the young fan and his father to update them on developments as described above and to offer my apologies on behalf of SAFC that he should be subjected to such an irresponsible act.

As ever in football, it is disappointing that a small minority let down the great majority.

needing some advice here from any legal eagles………..

my young student nephew and 2 student pals have been scammed by, what seems, a bogus letting agent.

They where all excited at moving into their first flat, saved up, paid the deposit, and now the landlord says hes been scammed by a bogus letting agent. i dont have all the details yet……

my brother and his wife have called the police…….what they can do, i dont know yet.

absolutely sick to the pit of my stomach…………ba****ds!

This sounds like being ripped off by a fly by night cowboy mob when you have

all the details together get in-touch with Lavery & Smith Solicitors and ask for

Garvey McKardil tell him you where put in-touch with via JD’s Big Friend

He is a fellow Tim & Hoops minded person like ourselves anyway there contact

phone number I have here is:-0141-810-1001

Give them a bell, make an appointment to see Garvey or one of his Reps

because a lot of times he is @ Court give Garvey or the Rep all the details

and hopefully they will be able to help you or put you in the right track

Good luck, although if it’s a fly by night mob it can be very difficult to track

them down so don’t hold your breath as regards to getting back said deposit

However, good luck in tracking the hundreds of £’s back

I also banged on repeatedly on here about Sammi’s best position, quoting the player’s own comments when he joined the club.

A bit like Mc.Guinness and Donegal. There were plenty on here who couldn’t recognise what was in front of their eyes!!

    akbw1888,

You basically told us he only turned up when a new contract was needed.

Dismissed any other input between contracts, from day one I told anyone who would listed he was not a CF, I insisted he was a left sided midfield player, you and most on here judged him as a CF I judged him as a player out of position, but still making a bigger contribution than most, a view not shared on here by many.

Typical response from anyone trying to do the big mhan down is the two goal stuff, I never counted his goals as I never seen him as an out and out striker, you did and you were/are wrong.

Since Lenny took over Sammi has played in his natural position, how has that worked out ?

He is a left sided mid-field player? That’s news to me, since I have watched him

since he first came to CP he has always been used as a forward player not a

midfielder or a defender but even used sometimes as a lonely striker in European

    matches in the past

The two goal Season return stuff as you mentioned is very poor for a forward

player even some defenders score more goals than said amount over a course

of one Season so how can that amount of goals a big total of two be acceptable

As mentioned before football is a matter of opinion where everyone is entitled

to there own end of debate

One thing is for sure, there will never be unanimity on here about him.

FWIW,I love him when he’s great, and he frustrates the life outa me when he isn’t.

Like a few players over the years have done.

Celtic FC should always have a place for a flair player who isn’t frightened to try the remarkable, and Sami can do that. But we also have a place for the frustrated fan who lets slip the odd FFS as a result.
