Sunshine amid murky football shadows

Before we get down to less important matters, let me know, did you buy Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas?

There are so many reasons to be cynical about football people (players, directors and fans alike) in the modern era it is scarcely worth listing them but occasionally a pillar of strength comes along and changes all the rules.

This morning’s headlines that Georgios Samaras has attracted interest from an English slumbering giant is reason enough to highlight the dedication of this model professional.  Georgios arrived at Celtic on loan in January 2008 and was instrumental in the historic league win that year.  When he completed his permanent transfer from Manchester City he took an enormous cut in wages because he wanted to be a Celtic player.

Thanks for the great support for the CQN Annual. You can order online here, time is running out for shipping before Christmas!

His talent and effectiveness has meandered, a bit like those looping runs he would go on with the ball, since then and for a while he was subject to considerable abuse from ‘supporters’.  At one point he had the chance to leave but his message to Celtic was simple, ‘If you want me to stay, I’ll stay and fight for my place.  This is my club’.

The story of the rebirth of Celtic is also the story of the rebirth of Georgios Samaras.  He is the epitome of the modern footballer: strong, skilful and intelligent, he would get into any top squad in Europe.

There is no chance of him going to England, Celtic will not sell him and even if they accepted a bid, the player shows no inclination of wanting to leave.  He is currently prime candidate for Player of the Year and is our most feared player in the Champions League.

You have six days to buy Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas in support of Celtic Charity and Teenage Cancer.  This is what we’re all about, don’t talk to me about football until I hear from you on the subject that really matters.

  1. Now that Jabba is comms director ( offishul ) at Sevco can we expect the DR and shortbread getting fettered with increased unique access to news info at Ibrokes in return for even more favourable coverage of the newco adventures on their media outlets.

Still fuming at the blatant use of the DR last week to give him carte Blanche to support his new employers through their rag. Can I again ask we do not post links to the DR on this blog, it just encourage them.

Wonder if jangle jangle will provide unbiased coverage of football in Scotland with his big pal at the helm in Govan….. Nah me neither.

The polis have not come out of many “conflicts” smelling of roses. My honest beliefs are, since they got massive pay rises, as did the armed forces under Thatcher, they all became her puppets. Just my opinion like.

I doubt the boy would get into our side for a wee while yet, but he looks a right good prospect and definitely one for the future, think he’d definitely be worth whatever compo it would cost us to stop him heading south

  4. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!.. Ibrox belongs to the creditors on

dj says to a caller (Dundee Utd)….. “we need to look forward, not back” …… Believe it or not, they were discussing the boycott ( being undertaken due to what happened in ‘the past’….)

  5. Just turned on the replay of Saturday on CelticTV. Are the Killers support, perhaps in a show of unity with the thems, boycotting games against SPL clubs too?

According to STV, both oldco and sevco can be held liable if found in the players favour…hopefully it’s sevco though as deadco ain’t gonna cough up any pennies!

  8. If 67 players are suing the new huns, what I can’t work out who they all are, cos only about 30 left during the liquidation.

Could it be some of the current players are suing their club ???

Would be a good shout, get him in the door, train him the Celtic way, get him involved in the Nextgen tourney, see if he can cut it, he looks to be worth a punt from what I’ve saw of him so far anyway.

  11. I was an activist in the 80’s. Involved in all sorts of anti-Thatcher stuff. Could tell you stories but this is not the place for me to do that….”boring stories of glory days” and all that….but I can tell you that what was done back then pales into insignificance compared to the assaults on society today. Thatcher, in her wettest of dreams, would never contemplate what is being enacted now, and what is coming down the line next year.

And as for Blair and his cronies, dragging us into illegal wars……..

…..and remember, the first ‘notable’ he invited to Downing St. on his ascension was Maggie,

and he and his greedy wife regularly holiday in Berlusconi’s gaffs, with the old pervert himself.

And then there’s his association with Murdoch.

    And he was Labour?

God help us all with this mental shower in power.

    I will now shut up.

very true. They are irrational. This phenomena is interesting. Its the same sort of mass mental illness that was last seen after Di had the car crash in Paris. Its strange when you dont read a paper or listen to a phone in how little one hears what is going on at The Delewdio Dome. All we can do at all levels, social, economic and politically is correct their necessary illusion….cos its theirs(not the real worlds) and it most certainly is an illusion.

If they want their history they pay, they did not.they Died.anything after that is enhancing their delusion

Can anyone tell me what the parking situation is around Motherwell train station. I know there’s no car park at the station but are the other council car parks free?

Houston could well get £2m for Russell of Mackay-Steven in the January window, but Russell’s contract runs out in June 2014

Wait another 6 months and his value will drop by 50%

Celtic must be in right enough, if newco were in the frame he’d no be moaning about loosing young talent, never has before

  17. sammy has been very good for us and he has lots of qualities, up top in europe, wide left in slp.

we have a good youth system full of 18 year olds trying to much into the first team, for what its worth, i reckon they will be as good as any in scotland so i would be in no rush to sign up a teenage aberdeen player with a couple of games under his belt for 250k. if the boys flying aged 20 then move for him

we should be looking to sign up the best 16 to 21 year olds that we can and something tells me he aint one of the very best

  19. Sometimes we’re far too quick to forget the abilities of our own young players.

I’ve seen nothing from any of the young players at other SPL clubs that would suggest that they could score a goal close to the one that Dylan scored on his debut for us.

  20. Hoopy Birthday mwd……the 60’s are the new 40’s……at least that is what I must believe…

A fair point mate, but at the same time we can never have enough quality youngsters pushing each other to get into the first team, and young Fraser has bags of potential.

If we want a strong Celtic would it not be more beneficial to have as strong opponents as possible at our domestic rivals?
