Sunshine getting through

885

The sun is shining on Celtic Park as the Easter weekend gets underway, while Celtic face Motherwell tomorrow, who look like they have discovered the limits of Stuart McCall’s managerial abilities this spring.

After some difficult news this week, here’s a ‘Happy Birthday CQN’ message from Wee Oscar, which he recorded last month; an even bigger ray of sunshine than the one beating down on Scotland.

Enjoy the break, if you’re getting one.

Thoroughly enjoying the Seville book. The stories are very evocative and its strange how words can instantly take you right back to a time and place. Apart from Lisbon, Seville 2003 is the other occasion in Celtic’s history where the club was thrust into the World limelight, thanks to a magnificent support.

Celtic FC also gave Scotland something to be very proud of, but what did we get in recognition of such a fan display, any other hugely supported club would have been proud of? Well actually not a lot from the usual Scottish sources. In fact the biggest insult I have ever heard from our detestable MSM was in the wake of the Manchester carnage 08. Some hacks on SSB took delight in shooting down Celtic fans with the ‘ones as bad as the other’ line.

Two extremely contrasting situations, one being the city’s most fearful scenes since WW2 ( according to Manchester Evening News), the other gaining a FIFA and UEFA award. Shocking.

    Back to the book.

Great day ahead for you, then! But what do you think the score will be at the end of the SECOND half?

Looking for a good display from the Bhoys today and a comfortable win. 4-1 to the good ghuys. :-)))

If you get the bus into Costa Teguise, head for Las Cucharas beach.

Proper Irish bar called Hennessey’s, they can show 3 games at same time. Owner a proper Dub which means he feigns interest in Celtic while being an EPL geek. He will happily show Celtic but you might need to watch it with no sound – no great hardship there though

On way into C Teguise at the Coronas Hotel there is a Hollywood Diner which will show Celtic game today no problem given KO time

    Enjoy yourself :D

  5. A number of short and long-term injuries (Forrest, Matthews, Boerrigter, Biton, Lustig, Fisher, and my personal choice for POTY, Mulgrew) will mean starts for a few also-rans this afternoon.

Ambrose, Izaguirre, Commons, and Samaras have been consistently brilliant at Fir Park, while Van Dijk was even better than he normally is in his one outing there. I’d like to see all starting the game.

When Pukki arrived at Celtic, I remember both he and Mixu Paatelainen acknowledging his best position was behinf the striker in a 4-2-3-1/4-4-1-1. It would be nice to see him given a chance to play there in a competitive match, particularly with our European qualifiers the only meaningful games on the horizon.

    My preferred XI for today:

Good morning from a hazy Blackpool and it,s nothing to do with the weather.

Very interesting statistic about the percentage of Catholics in the north of Ireland ,38percent who want to remain in the UK.

In spite of all they have had to endure, amazing. Why, in a word stability.

Is there a message for Scotland there, absolutely.

This is a football blog and I make no apology for reiterating rye catchers remarks. IMO, the act and policy of separatism would be detremental to the aims and aspirations of our club.

I abhore racism in all forms and unfortunately the separatism agenda to many is a negative anti English message.

Granted the pro UK campaign has been poor to date, but it still maintains a healthy lead. When it gets it’s act together, and it will , the polls will reflect this. A leap into the unknown is no sensible option.

    Hh, always in Celtic.

    A wee bit………

‘We don’t know what we can offer players, if we can offer them anything. It’s very difficult.

‘We’ve obviously got targets, players who are out of contract. They will want to get themselves looked after for next season.’

McCoist’s hope is that he will be able to add a clutch of new faces to compete with Hearts and others in a fascinating second tier.

Asked if he would be confident of winning the Championship next season if told he couldn’t make any signings, McCoist said: ‘I’d be more than happy to do it.

‘Obviously, it’s going to be a lot tougher. With full-time teams, you’d expect a rise in the standard. I think we have a good enough team to perhaps do it. But it would be very difficult and from my own point of view I’d rather strengthen. If we can’t, we’ll just have to see how we’d get on with it.’

It’s higher than I thought but not all that surprising.

There was always a view among the more purist republicans that what a lot of their supporters wanted more than a united Ireland was to be treated equally and fairly. That’s been achieved to a great extent.

Political (EU) and technological (the interweb) changes mean that people are less wedded to national states than they once were.

Interesting that evidence of the old SPL becomes available showing a desire not to punish Old Rangers and some folks first thought is Celtic are complicit. So rather than demand answers from the SPL we are immediately suspicious that Celtic would see it fit to agree not to punish old Rangers?

I can only see one issue for new Rangers in stripping titles from the old one. That is that they would be seen to be guilty and this would make global news ergo the brand would be toxic regardless of this being a new version. Otherwise why would Duff and Phelps argue that they should not be punished when they were entering the Liquidation phase.

If Celtic were , ‘in on’, this why would they care so much that the Rangers brand would be damaged? It wouldn’t have been damaged to the extent that not one entity would be willing to invest in the club?

It appears to me at face value that this letter was down to the only negotiating tactic that Green and co had at that time which was ‘we will walk away and sell the assets if you don’t’. It also suited the SPL and obviously the SFA not to strip Rangers of titles due to the ongoing repercussions for individuals , the national team and the on set of guranteed legal processes not to mention possible public disorder.

Celtic could have said and done any number of things in 2012 but they may not have be enable to influence negotiations to the extent that there was absolutely never a prospect of A Rangers. Other clubs, the SFA, the SPL, others possibly in politics, would have out shouted that kind of brinksmanship.

  28. Dannygall, The Hal’penny Bridge near the Biosfera Shopping Centre in Puerto Del Carmen, is one of the best Tim pubs on the planet. In recent times its closed a lot but opens specially for every Celtic Game Home or away. In the very unlikely event that it doesn’t open The Brendan Behan downstairs in the same complex has about a dozen Televisions and show any number of different games simultaneously. The Celtic Game will definitely be shown there and as an added attraction its one of the cheapest bars in the resort. However my advice is to go upstairs and watch it in the hal’penny, Sean will look after you. If you are over in Matagorda there is an Irish Pub in the Commercial Centre which is a Tim Pub as well, they will be showing the game too..

  29. Dannygall ,ha,penny inn at the old town in pdc should definitely be showing it or walk or get a taxi to matagorda about 5 euros the auld triangle or the sports bar at the side of the commercial centre should have it HH
