Tax cheats and self-serving Help

673

Well, at least we don’t live in Spain, where tax fraud convicts are lauded like some sort of distorted victim if they have a connection to football. No one really expected Leonel Messi to go to prison, accountability in Spain isn’t that exacting, but he will have to live with a conviction for defrauding the tax system of millions of euros. A shameful act for one so wealthy.

I’ve always been a bit uncomfortable at the politicisation (from all sides) of the poppy and charities like Help for Heroes. Society has been poor at looking after its literal cannon fodder in the 100 years since the Somme, but flag wavers around these parts have imposed political sentiment on these charities which doesn’t exist elsewhere in the UK.

Four years on from the infamous Rangers-Milan legends supposed charity match, James Doleman’s article yesterday, on the unauthorised use of Help for Heroes logos on t-shirts, gives us more to ponder. It’s impossible to damage a brand which is already at junk value, but activity like this makes it difficult for all good causes to make their appeals.

It looks like the deid team are stocking up on hammer throwers, but have we not faced that type of player/teams full of that type of player for years? The Hat has had no plan B since his arrival, it looks like his plan A is going to be to try and out muscle us. When that doesn’t work, what next? My only worry would be with one of our younger players getting an injury, other than that his team of Igors will hold no fear

  2. Small Hill Tim on

Apart from Joey Barton that is. He’s the best midfielder Burnley ever had. And has the letters to prove it!

  3. As far as I can see thems are still filling their team with hatchet men . I remember watching thems with Harold Davis , Bobby shearer ,kick lumps out of us all those years ago . The two mentioned could play without a ball . This is turning into an issue , I merely want to see some protection for our young bhoys . And without repeating myself ,if it worked for our greatest manager , and greatest team then it’s good enough For me . I will recall a wee story told to my brothers and myself by wee jinky when he attended our clubs dinner dance a number of years ago . He was asked about the Leeds semi 1970 . Norman hunter was the English hardman at the time .and jinky was asked how he thought about facing him . The wee mans reply , with auld and hay backing you , who have you to be afraid off . That’s my take bhoys .

  4. People worrying about the huns having hammer throwers:))) This is a new thing???

Anyone at Celtic who can’t look after themselves won’t be in Brendan’s team I would imagine..

The huns FFS next thing ye know they’ll be pushing out the boat eh..and we’ll get left behind, better spend yer energy worrying about Hearts as they will be our main challenge next year:))

  5. JIMTIM on 7TH JULY 2016 12:22 PM

Hypothetically speaking lets say our nearest challengers from last year, Aberdeen, are filling their team with quick, skillful players. Should we not be paying more attention to them?

If not, why not? It makes as much sense as buying players to deal with TRFC ‘hatchet men’.

  6. STARRY PLOUGH

I agree with you. Hearts will be our main challengers followed by Sevco and Aberdeen fighting out third/fourth

  7. Small Hill Tim & JimTim.

What will determine how close Sevco are to Celtic in next season’s SPL race isn’t how they compare with or play against Celtic, but how much the other 10 teams compete with (or roll over for) Sevco.

We could have 3 or 4 pre- or post- Champions League blips against lesser opposition, and even if we have taken 6 out od 6 against Sevco, we could still find ourselves trailing them on points. However, I am confident that Aberdeen and Hearts will take at least 6 points each from Sevco. And hopefully a few of the others will chip in with a few “shock” results of their own.

By any straight comparison between Celtic and Sevco, we are light years ahead of them. But we have to remember that the title goes to the team with the most points at the end of the season, not a team that prevails in any particular head-to-head comparison.

I think Neilson is a better coach than McInnes who in turn is better that bad loser man Warbiola. Hearts could be up there this year. The Sheep of course missed Rooney in the run in so we will never know how that would have gone had he been fit.

From your list of slight fellows, I think Roberts, Allen and Christie can all look after themselves as can McGregor and the thought of The Griff being intimidated by some slugger in blue disnae seem realistic to me.

All our great teams had players who could look after themselves and I’m confident Brendan will build his team like that.

  9. This morning a great friend of mine passed away suddenly. Father Renato Coronelli was a member of the teaching staff at Milan’s Seminary. He was also a fanatical Celtic supporter. Every year he came on holiday to Scotland and went to every Celtic game he could attend in that period. On one occasion he left Milan on a Saturday, went to the game against that team that went into liquidation on the Sunday and was back in the Seminary outside Milan for a meeting at 2p.m. on the Monday.

May his great Celtic soul rest in peace.

Point taken mate . No way Aberdeen can compete to buy the quality player we have , I just think they have a good system up there , a good manager ( although I detest him ) and a healthy support .

And they already have some good players under contract, so I am only expecting them to still be in the picture and our nearest challengers . But some on here advocating the Huns to be struggling to make the cut off , rubbish , with the wee helping hand along the way ,they will pick up the extra points to see them at least make third place . BUT AGAIN THATS ONLY MY OPINION MATE .

  11. Small Hill Tim on

Good point Big Chips. Although I think the season will take it’s toll on the older squad at Ibrox and we’ll have the league wrapped up a lot earlier than this year, as our nearest rivals will drop more points than last year. IMHO

  12. JIMTIM on 7TH JULY 2016 12:47 PM

I agree with you that they’ll be top 6, I don’t see them making 2nd this season though.

I just think we build the best team we can, paying no mind at all to what goes on elsewhere. If we do that we’ll be more than fine.

    How ye? :-)

Interesting to read about rangers2012 fans having ‘credibility’problems fusing money into what should be a seperate economic entity!

There must be Articles outlining the fans groups independence of the club (well ok the original articles b4 the glib and shameless liar fan club started on them;-).

    Back in time

    there was a club

Which had the best run pools and development prob in the uk.

By its very status it needed to be independent of the club,

Its articles defined development of the club, the where?how?why?

Now this club was sold to another owner who thought that he had purchased everything to do with that club, he eyed and leered the cashpot the devt org had piled up, especially when bidding for a future scotland captain.the purchase took place with 2 original directors putting their hands in their own pocket.the new owners blushes were saved, but he was pissed at not getting his hands on the cashpot which he seen as a transfer kitty, the director stuck by the law and monies stayed in the development and paid for the ground.

A wee schism of signifigance as the club died.

Wonder if history is coming round again.

    Lol

I agree mate .as an aside , I hope this European licence issue goes against them , they need European money to help them survive , all the SFA assistance has been geared to that aim of getting them promoted to European football and finance . Like those other European teams who have been banned from European competition for 3-4 years for mis demeanours I would like to see them getting the same or preferably put out the game altogether .

    Hi Lads

Been told to have a few bob each way on Wind Her Sails in the 7.00 at Newbury

33/1 in places but well thought of by connections.

First time on a race track so anything could happen but at that price I will chance a few euros each way.

So lets hope Wind in Her Sails lives up to her name

  19. To all who replied:

Tyvm for your concern. I’m fine thx. Young girl hit me and she was also ok as was the driver who hit her. ( 2 write offs but my car repairable)

Have to say, first claim ever, and was dreading it. Accident 8.30am. By noon, all done. Replacement car arranged, recovery of mine.

    Well done Kwik Fit insurance!

    An Tearmann,

    Yep,

If the 1872 Pyramid Scheme fails, then I suppose the ‘Warchest’ will have to be opened :))

It must be okay though because the SFA say that Mr King is ‘fit and proper.’

Two independent schemes, designed to purchase shares to prevent spivs from exploiting the ‘club’, have now gone to pyramids, split between loans later be exchanged for shares. Or to be spent on unconfirmed ‘projects.’

All for a very reasonable admin fee of 5%.

Don’t worry though the two remaining Directors of Club 1872 will look after things until we have elected a board, probably in September due to resignations.

One of the 2 Directors is very busy though due to his additional commitments on the ‘big board.’

Can’t wait for the nominees for the board. The muted Head of Marketing is an interesting individual. It appears he came off Twitter recently… ;)))

This is an interesting interview with Fergus (by our favourite “journalist” James Traynor) in which he explains a lot of background to the takeover from his perspective.

Two things stick out for me:

1 He says that he lost a lot of money in previous sporting business adventures and it took him a lot of time to pay it back, but he did

2 Near the end, he explains that he thinks that Celtic fans don’t expect to win all the time but that they want to be proud of what the club does, on and off the park

It only has 3,555 views on YouTube so many people may not be aware of it. It lasts for 42 minutes but is well worth it to listen to it all if you can

Hello again all you young rebels.

Just watched the game there against the Slovenian champions on

the new Celtic tv Beta site after a great bit of help from the lovely

Rachel Kelly of the media support staff, perfect picture and sound

here in Oz so highly recommend it for any of you bhoys abroad

thinking about where you will view the Celts this season.

Love the way the team are shaping up under Brendan and some

of those criticised recently definitely upped their game, think we

have a couple of gems in Dembele and Ajer and the energy and

skill of the young guns is very heartening, maybe a couple of

positions still to be decided or bought in but i’m convinced it’s
