Tax cheats and self-serving Help

673

Well, at least we don’t live in Spain, where tax fraud convicts are lauded like some sort of distorted victim if they have a connection to football. No one really expected Leonel Messi to go to prison, accountability in Spain isn’t that exacting, but he will have to live with a conviction for defrauding the tax system of millions of euros. A shameful act for one so wealthy.

I’ve always been a bit uncomfortable at the politicisation (from all sides) of the poppy and charities like Help for Heroes. Society has been poor at looking after its literal cannon fodder in the 100 years since the Somme, but flag wavers around these parts have imposed political sentiment on these charities which doesn’t exist elsewhere in the UK.

Four years on from the infamous Rangers-Milan legends supposed charity match, James Doleman’s article yesterday, on the unauthorised use of Help for Heroes logos on t-shirts, gives us more to ponder. It’s impossible to damage a brand which is already at junk value, but activity like this makes it difficult for all good causes to make their appeals.

    How have you “nailed Blair”

Chilcott said no lies – no deceit – no illegal war.

There will be no legal move against Tony Blair – as PM he made a decision based on information given to him from Intelligence Agencies – decision made in good faith against a genocidal sectarian tyrant who had used WMD Chemical Weapons on his own people and who had invaded Kuwait – he ignored the UN for TWELVE YEARS.

Tony Blair persuaded the US to go back to the UN.

Saddam was given a final chance by UN Resolution 1441 under pain of action. He did not comply although he was “in material breach”

If people criticize TB’s decision they are duty-bound to offer another strategy – the only other choice was to leave Saddam and his murderous sons in place – no doubt you and all other Saddam apologists would have be happy for him to carry on slaughtering IN YOUR NAME.

Only comment would be that we have let and still let some horrible dictators and regimes survive. I don’t recall a clamour to invade Chile or Rwanda ? Saddam was a threat to his own people but was a minimal be threat to the people of the UK. Taking him out was a revenge mission by Dubya supported by Blair imo.

Alfie Noakes you scumbag. I am utterly staggered, it’s hard to know how to respond to such a low life parasite, Hundreds of thousands of innocent life’s have been murdered by Blair’s illegal invasion of Iraq, a decision that has enriched that war criminal to the tune of tens of millions of dollars. Yet up you pop in the name of fucking politics.

    Mats Nilloc,

We have an international war crimes tribunal that deals with people involved in genocide, mass murder and similar atrocities. So far it has brought before it, the likes of Charles Taylor, Radavan Karadic, Slobodan Milosevic and Radko Mladic to name a few, each of these are bogeymen of us good guys in the West. I’m not saying that any of these should not have appeared there but, the tribunal cannot be solely for enemies of the West, it needs to be equitable in its prosecution of all criminals. Just because you wear a suit and tie and pin one of those creepy little flags on your lapel to make you more of a Brit, American or Aussie than Joe Public, does not excuse you from appearing. Blair, Bush and Howard among others should be answerable to that court for the hundreds of thousands of people who have been killed as a result of their misadventures, misadventures which now leave a new generation to deal with untold horrors, displacement, discrimination and starvation as well as leaving a generation of innocent civilians here in the West to deal with a virtual invisible terrorist threat as well as paying for military spending that seems to have no limits.

  20. CRAIGELLACHIE@10:33

You are correct, we cannot take out all those who commit atrocities, we simply don’t have the resources.

The UN itself has had some spectactular failures, notably in Rwanda and Srebrenica, among others.

There was a coalition of FORTY countries fighting to overthrow Saddam in a country brutalised in a sectarian mannner, where 20% held the whip-hand over the other 80%, millions were on food-aid programmes – 4 million refugees had fled the country – the Kurds and the Marsh arabs were gassed by WMD Chemicals and the sons of Saddam had a string of ‘rape rooms’ as a pastime.

The UK,and the UK/USA,saved one and a half million, mostly Muslims, in operations in Sierra Leone, Bosnia and Kosovo by interventions, when the UN and the rest of the world were unwilling/unable to intervene.

The vast majority of Iraq casulties were NOT due to the invasion, rather they were sectarian in nature and instigated and carried out by insurgents backed by interested parties in the region.

The casualties and refugees, in and from, Syria, where we did not intervene, far and away dwarf anything in Iraq.

So much tripe sloganized about Iraq by those who did not have the responsibility to make any decisions and who would presumably leave all dictators in place, allow them to humiliate the UN, and torture and kill their own people at will.

If we had ever followed the advice of the “Stop the War’, the stop ANY war mob, including Salmond’s disgustingly opportunistic SNP, who turn a blind eye genocidal regimes, we would all be speaking either German or Russian in this country, or even a mixture of both.

We were wrong to go in for the reasons we did,we were woefully underprepared and underequipped. We were wrong in not having an exit plan, and we were wrong in the company we kept.

That’s pretty much wrong from the first day to the last, and every one inbetween.

I reckon you’ll be holding your next Tony Blair Appreciation Society meeting in a telephone box.

Apologies for the colourful language Paul.

When you’re dealing with filth like Noakes it can be hard to articulate your emotions without bringing yourself down into the gutter with him.

I naively expect better from Celtic fans. I’ll try to rise above it in the future.

  23. Taurangabhoy on

Jonnyrambo67 Celtic fans come in all shapes sizes, colours, creeds and political persuasions. I don’t see why you can call Alf Noakes filth because he had an opinion different to yours, even taking high emotions into account. Alf Noakes articulated his reasoning quite well. At the time the sadistic treatment of the Kurd, Arabs and minorities sickened me to the core. I was not a conscientious objector. In hindsight I should have been. Who knows whether the sectarian wars would have happened regardless of any international intervention. Maybe Saddam would have settled for Kuwait and only torturing a few of his own countrymen. It’s a harsh lesson that we need to ignore other people’s atrocities and let those victims find their own salvation. The butterfly effect. Anyway I suppose I am now filth who deserves to die in your sainted eyes. It is a blog , people should feel free to express an opinion , rightly or wrongly. Have a good one mate. Hail hail. Great to see Griff right back on the scoring sheet. Bring on the Gibraltians the hearts the Ragers.
