Test for an emerging Celtic team

316

We play plenty of no-win games, where all that can be achieved is an expected result and the avoidance of a humiliating loss, or draw.  Tonight is different.  Tonight we play the team who won the Europa League last year and who are significantly better resourced that Celtic.  When Celtic entered this group, opposition from Spain, Italy and France ensured that expectations were never going to get wildly out of proportion.  Indeed, after Sion, defeat in Madrid and a solitary point at home to Udinese, many expectations were of an early exit.

But, after four games, Celtic have it all to play for.  Two solid performances against Rennes delivered four points and a big performance this evening would give Celtic an excellent chance of progressing to the business end of European football.

This is a test for a young and emerging Celtic team.  Don’t underestimate them….

Asp lendid bit of direct action…

An angry snakecharmer in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has let loose dozens of snakes in a government office, sparking chaos and panic.

Hakkul, of Lara village in Basti district, dumped the snakes, including a number of cobras, at the land revenue office in Harraiya town on Tuesday.

Many of the frightened villagers and officials ran out of the office, while others climbed on top of tables.

No-one was bitten or injured but the snakes are yet to be caught.

    Plot of land

Mr Hakkul is usually called in whenever a snake is spotted in the area and he has saved many lives over the years, local journalist Mazhar Azad told the BBC.

He has petitioned various government offices over the years demanding a plot of land where he can “conserve” his snakes.

Mr Azad said Mr Hakkul had even petitioned the president.

Mr Hakkul says his request has been cleared by senior authorities, but the local officials keep delaying it.

On Tuesday, Mr Hakkul went to the Tehsil [revenue] office with a group of supporters and emptied out his bags containing poisonous snakes.

“Snakes were climbing up the tables and chairs. The office was full, there were nearly 100 officials and clerks and many more visitors,” Mr Azad said.

“There was total chaos for several hours. Some people started taking photos with their telephone cameras, others brought out sheets to try to cover the snakes. Some came with sticks and wanted to beat up Hakkul.”

Mr Azad said Mr Hakkul and his men escaped in the confusion and are yet to be caught.

So are the snakes who are still hiding in the building.

    Well said sir.

The pomposity of the city’s political wing telling ordinary working people “we’re all in this together” is so ludicrous it beggars belief.

There’s only one class of people paying for banking profligacy and it matters little whether you work in the public or private sectors…

  10. Lennon: “If we win it, it gives us a great chance of qualifying from a really tough group.”

I hope we are not getting ahead of ourselves…

Even if we win tonight, if all the remaining group games are won by the home teams we will not progress. So both Atletico and Udinese can afford to lose tonight and still progress by each winning at home in their respective final matches.

If Udinese draw both their remaining matches, with the match against Celtic ending 0-0, then Udinese will progress. In this case Atletico will join them in the next round if they too draw their remaining two games… or by beating Rennes at home should Celtic win tonight by a single goal (or by two goals should Atletico also score).

Even if we beat Atletico 3-0 and draw 2-2 in Udine (giving us the head-to-head advantage in both cases), we would still be eliminated if both those teams beat Rennes in their other game.

The only scenario that would absolutely guarantee Celtic’s qualification is that we win both remaining games. This would also guarantee us top spot in the group.

    That’s the target Neil.

Ref bank bailouts. your absolutely correct, those that recieved bailouts should have been allowed to go bust.

They were bust then, they are bust now, and they will be bust until the debasement of the currency inflates away their losses and the staus quo is resumed.

    BRTH.

the problem with the public sector pension arrangements is that unfortunately thereis no pot… their never was. It is one almighty ponsi scheme like the rest of a FIAT money system.

But as every con man knows every fraud needs plausability.

Thereis simply no plausability in the PS pension arrangements. You know it – I know it and they know it. They are unnaffordable. They will impoverish your children and your grand-children. This was the conclusion of a labour peer.

Now as to the manner of it all – I have explained above , you deal with the state at your peril. The state is brutal in its interaction with the individual. The state however is indiscriminate in its actions. I didnt see the PS workers out on the streets when Gordon Brown raided the pensions of those in the private sector.

The piper needs paying and as always he will be paid.

As for your comments on the commercial banking environment – it is indeed brutal, but to be honest these guys never got the big bonuses, that was reserved for those of us on the trading floor. And with a few notable exceptions it was entirely perfromance related.

    ————————————————————————————————————–

Why should the Public Sector workers take to the streets for the private sector, did the private sector workers have the temerity to even do that for themselves?

The labour peer concluded that the PS pensions are sustainable, and maybe some private pensions are crap but that should not be a reason to cut PS pensions in a race to the bottom – for all but the bankers and politicians

Beautiful credit! The foundation of modern society. Who shall say that this is not the golden age of mutual trust,

  19. I am retired now so am only interested in the OAP pension. However I have worked in public and private sector and also been self-employed. Public sector was shit pay compared to same job in private sector where I earned at least 50% more. Private pension scheme from employer was crap compared to guaranteed PS pension, but then again pay was so much more that I could choose to plan ahead ahead and pay into a private pension fund for those years. I have no sympathy for private sector employees whinging about the public sector.
