That. Was. Incredible.

1667

Just a short blog today.  I found the notes for my speech this morning.  A lot of positive things should have been said about Tony (one of the nicest CQN’ers I’ve met, and I’ve lots of great CQN’ers), Jim (more committed to the welfare of others than he would be comfortable you knowing), and David (combines the cynicism you can only get by spending 30 years in the publishing business with an often incomprehensive enthusiasm and positivity).  Three people who make things happen.

The CQN Golf Committee have organised nine incredibly taxing CQN Charity Opens, which seems to require an addition to stress, as they clearly thrive on it.

I got my timing all wrong when I set the whisky auction to end at noon yesterday as I was otherwise engaged until late afternoon, when things were getting a bit hectic, but with minutes to go, E (abbreviated) stepped in with what was an opening and winning bid of £550.  The money is already with Mary’s Meals.  My thanks to E and to A Ceiler Gonof Rust, who donated the prize.

None of us had any experience at organising this kind of event.  You think all you need is a mic. and a few speakers!  I asked Phil Agnew if he would do the raffle and auction for us.  He ended up supplying what would have been thousands of pounds worth of consultancy, which saw us over the line, wouldn’t take a penny for his trouble and provided a print signed by Henrik Larsson from his daughter.  They are a family with a long-established link to Mary’s Meals.

The quality and sheer volume of donations for auction and raffle overwhelmed us. We made a call that it was probably wise to limit the number of items we put up last night, and hold some for a later date – all will go towards Mary’s Meals. Thanks to everyone who came forward.

These are just the thanks I didn’t get to last night, more to come.

I’ve no idea how much money you raised yet but I am sure the cash is in to build the second and third school kitchens.  Within weeks your buildings will be feeding circa 2700 of the poorest children on the planet.  That.  Is.  Incredible!  Well played CQN.

I’m not going to pester you to read the Magazine or buy the Seville book today, but the MyDonate like to Marys’ Meals……

I totally agree that every individual

    can make a difference.

However for any working person that ideal is

    nonsense.

It is through our Trade Union that we really make a

Even trades Unions have someone at the helm.

Sorry but we can make a difference through trades unions and without.

I will always fight for the right of a unionised workforce but…..lets not get into the position whereby an individual cannot make a difference without the approval of the union.

You saw Villa today and you reckon 2 or 3 Celts might make it into their team. Utter bollocks man. You even have doubts about FF ffs!

You even admitted- on here- that you preferred watching the Liverpool game when the hoops where playing at the same time!!!!

Your choice bud but I think that Celtic is low down on your priorities. You’ve been Anglicised and believe in the hype that the Premiership has become.

To finish, you do down our manager and just because Paul is lucky enough to manage in the big league, that makes him better. Dream on.

By the way, nothing personal, as BCW alluded to earlier, just because EPL teams are bigger and fitter it doesn’t make them the dogs b’s. How many EPL teams left in Europe?

I would suggest that transfer values are almost irrelevant as the football budget depends on combination of transfer costs (amortization as our host refers to it) and wages. On that basis if the Villa budget is no at least 4 times ours I’d be surprised. Changed days from the MON days when we’d have had a football budget in the top 10 in Britain.

By the way on the present Celtic v Villa debate I would suggest that Fraser, VVD, Listing, Broonie, at least would be in contention for first team places, with a few others well worth a place in their squad.

  18. LiviBhoy - God bless wee Oscar on

In less than 20 mins I will be 36 years old or young depending on your outlook on life. I had a wonderful evening on Friday evening in the company of a special group of people. My table guests were superb. Brian from Calton Books, traveller Bhoy and his Bhoy and the lurkers who are probably bigger cqn fans than myself. Wonderful people all in the room for the one cause. Mary’s meals are better off for everyone’s presence. I had the pleasure of sharing a taxi with vmhan and johnny to the event and I also managed to meet some of the Bhoys I have spoke with the last couple of years. I have a copy of a book which has been printed and I am in it. My wife has wrapped it in cotton wool. That goes to my Bhoy. A huge achievement for me. I posted a comment a few weeks ago and I probably revealed more than I should have and normally would have but the reaction I got on Friday was humbling. It came from the heart and it clearly hit some people in the same spot.

I don’t want to mention too many names because I met so many great people on Friday but I must say it was great to meet and shake the hands of Paul67 and BRTH. Two great Celtic men.

Mary’s meals were the winners but I felt like a millionaire on the night. God bless every one of you and special mention to the Bhoys I managed to speak to. Embramike god bless my friend. Timsinohio you are a genleman. Myself? I think Christy sings it best but I will leave you with the lyrics.

I’m an ordinary man, nothin’ special nothin’ grand,

I’ve had to work for everything I own,

Well I never asked for a lot, I was happy with what I got,

Enough to keep my family and my home,

Now they say that times are hard & they’ve handed me my cards,

They say there’s not the work to go around,

When the whistle blows the gates will finally close,

Tonight they’re going to shut this factory down,

    Then they’ll tear it down.

I never missed a day nor went on strike for better pay,

For 20 years I served them best I could,

With a handshake and a cheque it seems so easy to forget,

Loyalty through the bad times and the good,

The owner says he’s sad to see that things have got so bad,

But the Captains of industry won’t let him loose,

He still drives a car and smokes a cigar,

And still he takes his family on a cruise,

    He’ll never lose.

Now it seems to me to be such a cruel irony,

He’s richer now ever he was before,

Now my cheque is all spent and I can’t afford the rent,

There’s one law for the rich, one for the poor,

Every day I’ve tried to salvage some of my pride,

To find some work so’s I might pay my way,

But everywhere I go, the answer is always no,

There’s no work for anyone here today,

    No work today.

And so condemned I stand, just an ordinary man,

Like thousands beside me in the queue,

I watch my darlin’ wife tryin’ to make the best of life,

God knows what the kids are goin’ to do,

Now that we are faced with this human waste,

    A generation cast aside,

For as long as I live, I never will forgive,

You’ve stripped me of my dignity & pride,

    You’ve stripped me bare.

I sent her a text but apparrently the daft old bat didn’t have her mobile switched on and sat outside on London road till half one.

I gave her the minatures of whiskey(yours to Estorilbhoy) to try and placate her but she is still seething at me.

Worse of all I lost a very special item, hoping I left it on the bus but wont find out tilll Monday.
