That. Was. Incredible.

1667

Just a short blog today.  I found the notes for my speech this morning.  A lot of positive things should have been said about Tony (one of the nicest CQN’ers I’ve met, and I’ve lots of great CQN’ers), Jim (more committed to the welfare of others than he would be comfortable you knowing), and David (combines the cynicism you can only get by spending 30 years in the publishing business with an often incomprehensive enthusiasm and positivity).  Three people who make things happen.

The CQN Golf Committee have organised nine incredibly taxing CQN Charity Opens, which seems to require an addition to stress, as they clearly thrive on it.

I got my timing all wrong when I set the whisky auction to end at noon yesterday as I was otherwise engaged until late afternoon, when things were getting a bit hectic, but with minutes to go, E (abbreviated) stepped in with what was an opening and winning bid of £550.  The money is already with Mary’s Meals.  My thanks to E and to A Ceiler Gonof Rust, who donated the prize.

None of us had any experience at organising this kind of event.  You think all you need is a mic. and a few speakers!  I asked Phil Agnew if he would do the raffle and auction for us.  He ended up supplying what would have been thousands of pounds worth of consultancy, which saw us over the line, wouldn’t take a penny for his trouble and provided a print signed by Henrik Larsson from his daughter.  They are a family with a long-established link to Mary’s Meals.

The quality and sheer volume of donations for auction and raffle overwhelmed us. We made a call that it was probably wise to limit the number of items we put up last night, and hold some for a later date – all will go towards Mary’s Meals. Thanks to everyone who came forward.

These are just the thanks I didn’t get to last night, more to come.

I’ve no idea how much money you raised yet but I am sure the cash is in to build the second and third school kitchens.  Within weeks your buildings will be feeding circa 2700 of the poorest children on the planet.  That.  Is.  Incredible!  Well played CQN.

I’m not going to pester you to read the Magazine or buy the Seville book today, but the MyDonate like to Marys’ Meals……

In my original post I did say that it was as close to 50/50 as was possible.

You’re absolutely correct though, I remember venting to my da about the unfairness of the split when I discovered that they were getting thousands more tickets than us.

I hope the two teams playing in the final today have taped it. Their free kicks today were woeful.

I understand your point re club personnel attending.

Just a thought that maybe no Celtic staff were asked ? Or maybe none felt it would be appropriate as it was not an official supporters function which some staff and players do go to from time to time.

Maybe they have a policy to abide by re going to Unofficial Celtic ‘website’ Events which they cannot be fully responsible for. Not all blogs and websites are as well run and gave such self policing as CQN has.

Engaging with CQN might set a precedent for some who may not be as responsible.

It may be none if these reasons but I don’t know but it might fit some agendas to beat the club or board so for those who want to then thats fine.

For me I had a really good and oddly humbling experienced in the company of folk I consider to be real Celtic legends like Paul 67.

Peter or Dermott or Neil would not have added much to it. IMO

Think the sheep were five times runners up to the dead club during the fake 9-IAR.

It just goes to show how bad we were in those dark days.

I can understand why they are so bitter over this to a certain extent.

They did have a few decent players in their ranks – Snelders, Jess, Gilhaus etc.

Are they a threat to our dominance?

    Possibly.

This is a golden age for the Celtic of Glasgow.

The sheep must not be allowed to ruin our quest for the 10.

Crush them now Lenny, before they become even more of a menace than they already are.

  9. Blantyretim – none whatsoever. Just made the point that Celtic were first class on this. And I can tell you there were serious reservations at the start of the planning for CQTEN re staging it at Celtic Park. We thought we’d give it a try but have to say they did all they said they would do and more and we drive a particularly hard bargain on behalf of our own objections – which Paul has championed so successfully.

    Nae bother

I was just pointing out as always MSM sold it to everyone as a very fair 50/50 split

    When it was far from.

Neil Lennon has expressed his anger at the way on-loan Celtic striker Tony Watt has been treated by Lierse manager Stanley Menzo.

The striker has endured a fractious relationship with Menzo since moving to Belgium in the summer, despite scoring seven goals in his last eight appearances for the club.

Watt has now been demoted to the Lierse B team following comments made about the club’s manager.

“Whenever we lose I get the blame, and they always say I do things wrong,” he told Belgian press.

“At Ostend last month I just played for 20 minutes, yet Menzo blamed me.

“I can’t score goals if I am sitting on the bench. Menzo has two sets of rules. But you can’t have different rules for different players. He clearly doesn’t like me.”

The Celtic manager believes the public treatment of Watt has aggravated the situation, although has suggested the striker keep his silence before returning to Scotland at the end of the season.

“It is a bit of a worry,” Lennon admitted.

“It is not the way we want our young players to deal with certain situations

“I have not been over enamoured at times with the coach publicly criticising him, I think that can be dealt with behind closed doors.

“I think it is a source of frustration for Tony because he has done okay there, he has weighed in with a few goals during that loan period.

“Maybe I need to speak to him and (tell him to) keep his counsel from here and maybe the relationship will get better.

“But he will be our player again in the summer, I think he has something to offer.”

  12. Blantyretim – I have a friend in England and at start of last season he wanted some advice on starting a magazine for his club – like Cqn Mag. I helped and advised him – stranglely enough his name is Brennan – and he managed to get it up and running. After a few issues the club invited him in and gave access to players etc – something we have never had. Find it strange that MSM get access but we don’t so we are hardly in disagreement. But for Friday club really did help Cqn so think it is important to say so.

The English chap – helped by Cqn – actually got a job at his club and is able to offer us some interviews with an ex Celt or two!

The sheep did create a remarkable atmosphere at the arena today, it has to be said, although the colour red all over the place just didn’t seem right.

It would be incredible if the club demolished the old main stand and incorporated it with the rest of the arena, increasing the capacity to over 75,000.

That’s ambition, that’s why we are one of the greatest football clubs on earth.

It would be a fitting completion of our magnificent stadium.

    Strange indeed.

It really should have been Celtic playing there today.

  21. I have to say no love for the sheep didn’t like them in the 80s when they were under Ferguson, hated how they bottled it against them in the 90s league decider and find them now even more reprehensible due the treatment of our manager and their songs at our last home game

  22. Re Aberdeen fans.
