That. Was. Incredible.

1667

Just a short blog today.  I found the notes for my speech this morning.  A lot of positive things should have been said about Tony (one of the nicest CQN’ers I’ve met, and I’ve lots of great CQN’ers), Jim (more committed to the welfare of others than he would be comfortable you knowing), and David (combines the cynicism you can only get by spending 30 years in the publishing business with an often incomprehensive enthusiasm and positivity).  Three people who make things happen.

The CQN Golf Committee have organised nine incredibly taxing CQN Charity Opens, which seems to require an addition to stress, as they clearly thrive on it.

I got my timing all wrong when I set the whisky auction to end at noon yesterday as I was otherwise engaged until late afternoon, when things were getting a bit hectic, but with minutes to go, E (abbreviated) stepped in with what was an opening and winning bid of £550.  The money is already with Mary’s Meals.  My thanks to E and to A Ceiler Gonof Rust, who donated the prize.

None of us had any experience at organising this kind of event.  You think all you need is a mic. and a few speakers!  I asked Phil Agnew if he would do the raffle and auction for us.  He ended up supplying what would have been thousands of pounds worth of consultancy, which saw us over the line, wouldn’t take a penny for his trouble and provided a print signed by Henrik Larsson from his daughter.  They are a family with a long-established link to Mary’s Meals.

The quality and sheer volume of donations for auction and raffle overwhelmed us. We made a call that it was probably wise to limit the number of items we put up last night, and hold some for a later date – all will go towards Mary’s Meals. Thanks to everyone who came forward.

These are just the thanks I didn’t get to last night, more to come.

I’ve no idea how much money you raised yet but I am sure the cash is in to build the second and third school kitchens.  Within weeks your buildings will be feeding circa 2700 of the poorest children on the planet.  That.  Is.  Incredible!  Well played CQN.

I’m not going to pester you to read the Magazine or buy the Seville book today, but the MyDonate like to Marys’ Meals……

BTW Happy St Patricks day to one and all.

Now….what about these despicable cheats sevco.

The MIB really are ripping the pash, getting away with absolutely disgraceful cheat.

Check sevco stats, and tell me how that is statistically possible?

This is a real scandal of epic proportion, and its being sidetracked.

The honest mistake is the vehicle that will drive them forward, and soon, they will be cheating their way to the champions league dosh.

We had umpteen chances, but we let them carry on cheating, and said nothing.

Its going to be gut wrenching seeing them at CP.

Spewing their vile hatred, worse than ever

Mark my words…..they will cheat their way to the champions league, at our expense, very soon.

While the board keep silent, and tug the forelock.

I’ve nothing against Aberdeen FC whatsoever in fact was delighted to see Barry Robson step up and smash in their first penalty, but their fans, OMG, what a shower, they would give the huns a good race as to who was the most obnoxious objectionable mob in Scottish football.

    BRTH,

like others I would say that your message on Friday was not missed.

However thanks for bringing Nicola’s plight to the wider attention this morning.

Here’s hoping this girl can get the funds in place to give her the treatment she needs.

As for the Global Pharma’s they are an odious bunch and their quest for profit over the health and well-being of their “customers” is despicable.

Reading back on the underage drinking,my first wasn’t in The Laurieston in Ardrossan-far from it!- but a lot were.

In those days it was a family concern. The Lawsons The lounge run by old Agnes, the mother, and her daughter Liz.

The bar was run by John.

Sadly,John,a neighbour of my parents these last 16 years or so,died over the weekend.

My late Dad’s party piece ( God rest him ) and I can distinctly remember my late uncle Joe ( God rest him too ) berating our then parish priest for not including it whilst celebrating a St Patrick day mass many moons ago and while the said priest was still on the altar only to be severely berated by my Dad outside for doing so …….. Happy St Patrick Day to all ……. HH.

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again, the board is NOT the problem at Ibrox, it’s whoever put them on the board and who’s bidding the board is doing. You could change the entire board tomorrow and your REAL ENEMY will still be in control at Ibrox, your biggest problem is getting them out whilst there is still some money to be fleeced from the club.”

True. I’m probably the last person in a position to give anyone health advice. I’m in my 40’s and have been pretty lucky so far. Couple of broken bones and that’s it.

Big Pharma seems likethe classic example of where, when something is driven only by

market forces, the only winner is shareholders. There is no moral consideration. Of course, morals apply to individuals – not corporations, and therein lies part of the problem. The hegemony of the corporate model and beancounter mentality is what suck the colour out of life. Everything is systemised.

A bit like bues deregulation in the 80’s. Where did we end up? McGills – that’s where! :-)

  17. Yeah I’m in my 40’s too, just the process of age catching up, not much I can do about that but healthy and happy with my lot.

Tony, I have a belter for you, I think I’m right in saying you don’t think much of teachers, well my daughter, she’s 14, her art teacher actually told her she was doing her picture wrong, now my daughter bless her, turned round and said to her how is it wrong it’s my picture. She made me so proud, I’m delighted that she has listened to me and starts questioning the teachers. As a friend said to me, your not taught at school, your told.

I expect Picasso’s tutors were unenamoured by his early efforts.

Some subjects at school are open to interpretation and self-expression. Art is certainly one. Fair play to your daughter.

I doubt she would get away with that approach in,say,Maths. Though I would love to see her interpretation of a pie-chart!

That’s ok now a days, and your daughter is quite right, teachers should be questioned, but alas in my day that was a no no, it’s not all teachers I blame, it’s just that the ones that taught me, ( or where supposed to) hadent any time for teaching pupils who where not to clever or slower on the uptake, and where only interested in the ones who picked up quicker, teachers should take a step back and think how blessed they are to have that quality of educating the youth of our future, and the gift they have of doing it, but as I said, that was back in the day and the attitude was not to good, let’s hope it’s changed, then again there was one in here only a few weeks ago called me a Pr#^+, so they are out there! unfortunately.

On the subject of huns,I don’t see what the problem is with them having home advantage in a “neutral” semi-final.

Surely that’s balanced out by them playing at a neutral venue in tonight’s game?

  28. My own experience was that I was labelled the same as my brother and cousin, nothing like them, but my maths teacher actually asked who I was and then said, and I quote’your dead’ he only spoke to me about 5 times in 2 years. Never stopped me in my life, I just question them at all parents evenings as I think they should be held accountable for all their mistakes.
