The Celtic Globetrotters

I don’t know what the commercial value of our summer games against Barcelona, Leicester City and Inter Milan are, but those three games are sure to dwarf the earnings we make from domestic media and prize money for the whole of next season.

TV rights for English Premier League football from next season will average just above £7m per game, that’s for each of the 10 games on the weekly card – Sweet Georgia Brown! The actual value of these varies enormously: Watford v Bournemouth has practically no commercial value, all the real value is added by games between big clubs – even the likes of Newcastle, who are a poor team, but one which many colours of football fans still want to watch.

In a different environment, TV rights for Celtic games would be north of that £7m per game figure (the increased exposure would also geometrically improve commercial rights values). Think what we could do with that kind of money…….. more paper towels in the gents, maybe, the possibilities are limitless!

Our position is far from unique, there are a dozen or so European teams of similar size who have been marginalised from what was once a meritocratic game, so change must (always) remain on our agenda. But for now, we have to make what we can from our role as the Celtic Globetrotters.

  2. Been off blog for a while.

Good result at weekend. i always do like to stuff it up opponents with a last minute winner even if we werent that brilliant overall. A win is a win and awe that.

What has been the outcome re. the requisitioners getting answers as to why a reply from the SFA to Celtic in January was never forwarded (or withheld) to (from them) until Q’s asked in March?

See you in Dublin to celebrate. :)

  4. What a joke this place has become. No fault of Pauls,I might add,but this site is attracting every halfwit who purports to support Celtic. Not the Res 12 guys,I might add,who have done wonders, but the shower of self righteous trumpets who have jumped onto their cause, with only the intent of demeaning everything Celtic.

Speaking to my Celtic mates who are from a certain other blog, they tell me that most other fans treat this site as a joke, only coming on for a laugh as they do the Hun sites when they are in meltdown.

    Dear oh dear,congratulations.

To be honest,it’s difficult to attempt to keep you here when you just dissed us all the way you did.

Your shout. But that was the parting shot of a spoiled child. Contributions like that won’t be missed, tbh.

  8. The article in the guardian today makes for worrying reading, if uefa really do restructure the cl along the lines it suggests we’re in serious trouble

  9. I never cease to be amazed how seriously people take this place. Or football in general for that matter.

True story but whats being reported ends all hope of access to the group stage, at least at the moment we can dream.

  15. provably the most depressing thing about it is that the big guns seem to scared of a team like Leicester doing so well that they share in the riches.

  16. antipodean red on

    Weeminger,

It is just a game but the belief and the fun has been strangled out of it. The Champions League is becoming a borefest with no more than half a dozen financially doped super clubs capable of winning, most of whom carry massive debts in the process. Most of the “super” leagues in Europe get three or four spots but now they want wild cards as well, they may as well go the whole hog and stop the Diddy teams from getting entry. Maybe the second tier could start their own tournament, at least it might be competitive and have a winner come from one of twenty or thirty possibilities?

Even in Scotland, the goons changed the promotion set-up in the old 1st division to try to ensure that the reincarnation got back into the premiership and virtually no-one batted an eyelid. Ok it failed but the blatant interference for the benefit of one club was stunning.

A couple of small examples that take the joy of the beautiful game away from the average man.

Celtic’s Development team had another convincing win earlier this week and I wish the club had re-arranged to play one of their postponed games this week-end to provide me with some football interest. International football is rubbish.

Scotland’s Under19s must be special when the player previously ranked 1st of those born in 1998 isn’t included in the squad for three important qualifiers. Shame they were gubbed 0-2 in the first of them and I imagine Calvin enjoyed his goal on Tuesday. Think he scored a double earlier this month as well.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

    I’ve never met a CQN’er who isn’t a top bloke and a good Tim.

This site is important. It does things that no others can do.

If certain posters are sick to the back teeth of the accommodation of cheating in Scottish football they have every right to say so. If you disagree you are free to say so.

On another subject I noticed on Twitter where Clumps had a pic of Evening Times in June 2012 where it said that the club was in liquidation. It’s nonsense like this that causes confusion.

Everyone knows it was the never before mentioned holding company that went into liquidation. How could a respected newspaper like Evening Times get it so badly wrong?

Next people will be causing trouble saying that they are a new club. They can boil their heeds – as far as I am concerned same club, same club, same club…..

  21. Mac Jay,

  22. Guyfawkesforhero,I agree ,Celtic Football Ball club should redevelop Barrowfield,ie build a couple of Stand, catering facilities and outside toilets ,I would gladly pay a couple of Quid to see the Development Squad play, it’s not if there is a shortage of land there ,there’s plenty ,but I suppose I can only dream of that happening especially with that current mob that’s running our club ,and can I ask.does celtic own Barrowfield,
