The Celtic Globetrotters

I don’t know what the commercial value of our summer games against Barcelona, Leicester City and Inter Milan are, but those three games are sure to dwarf the earnings we make from domestic media and prize money for the whole of next season.

TV rights for English Premier League football from next season will average just above £7m per game, that’s for each of the 10 games on the weekly card – Sweet Georgia Brown! The actual value of these varies enormously: Watford v Bournemouth has practically no commercial value, all the real value is added by games between big clubs – even the likes of Newcastle, who are a poor team, but one which many colours of football fans still want to watch.

In a different environment, TV rights for Celtic games would be north of that £7m per game figure (the increased exposure would also geometrically improve commercial rights values). Think what we could do with that kind of money…….. more paper towels in the gents, maybe, the possibilities are limitless!

Our position is far from unique, there are a dozen or so European teams of similar size who have been marginalised from what was once a meritocratic game, so change must (always) remain on our agenda. But for now, we have to make what we can from our role as the Celtic Globetrotters.

I am picking up Thomthethim from the Airport at about 9 AM and we are going to the first match (St Kevins -V- Celtic) at 10

After that I will drop him wherever he needs to go

    We will work something out

  3. TGM,

We both know we didn’t…..but as fans/supporters…. shouldn’t we look forward to them? I’ve got many misgivings about how our club is run and how it’s reflected in our team…..but I will still, and have, supported our team…..no matter how how poor they are

My son and I will arrive at Ballsbridge Hotel at 10.30 Friday. We will do the tourist route walk via Saint Stephen’s Green, O’Connell St, Grafton St etc. See you Saint Kevin’s before 4pm.

We could always take out a full page ad in a newspaper at some point to remind everyone that they are the SAME CLUB. It would help avoid all the confusion etc

I find it strange that you have tracked the nature of my posts into football and possibly non-football -seems a little worrying

    Bobby Murdochs…..

NL was targeted by the press and a large majority of posters on here regularly defended him because of his nationality

Ronny just like Neil is being targeted because he is the Celtic boss – thats the reason – just like Neil and I would have to say the criticism is much more personal but he gets nothing like the support from the people on here

Make your own judgement about my comments – if the shoe fits…..

Im sure you realise how much it hurts me to see muppets run Celtic.

I will always support Celtic….The board are a different matter entirely.

For 40 years i followed the team home and away, i saw the demise of R******, and they are no more.

However, the new hun team, wants to resume the cheating of their ancestors, and currently it seems that the board want to ignore the cheating and bigotry, and split the proceeds with their new hun pals.

Its bent….and im having nothing to do with it.

The Celtic board should be confronting the cheating….not ignoring it.

I will always follow the team….but there’s no way im going to pay, to be cheated.

No I’ll always support Celtic. I’m taking a break from Celtic as this current situation will not end well. I’ll watch the New Firm unfold at a distance. I’m finished with CQN because it has turned into a caricature of what it was supposed to prevent i.e. Lazy Journalism. Its also full of too many happy-clappers, green huns, fascists, Tims that cannot differentiate the board from the club, religious nutters, sanctimonious holy willies, contempt for even attempting anything kind of intellectual and a plethora of school prefects that cant take a joke etc. Not the kind of Celtic supporters I know. Also since I start a new job/new life April 1st the timing is right.

  16. TheLurkinTim…

I’d be most surprised if any read the smsm or buy into it.

There has been a few reasons why some are downbeat at the moment…we may be top of the league but our team looks disjointed, there seems to be no confidence in our managers deployment of players on the park.

Our substitutions leave a lot to be desired, our fanbase is crumbling.

The rolling of the dice in strikers…it’s all multiplied to a feeling that the board are happy to keep things afloat until a newco appear.

This isn’t just me rattling my gums but a general conscientious from friends and workmates that I speak to.

The 16 from Westmoreland Street or Dame Street (both near Trinity College) would leave you very close to the ground.

If you are walking from your hotel into Stephens Green etc why not stroll down Nortumberland and pause at No.25 at the corner of Haddington Road where Mick Malone died in 1916

BB. I don’t think it’s possible to sue the Board as Resolution 12 wasn’t adopted. The parties involved would have been , or would have been made well aware of this when they agreed to adjournment.

-Are the Board not duty bound to do their best for Shareholders? Maybe someone could advise? HH

Im sort of calm about it really.

    Apathy has its claws in.

The PLC, have a lot to answer for….as far as i can see, they have betrayed their own supporters to the SFA and the Huns…considering the refusal to attend to the concerns of the supporters, i cant draw any other conclusion.

Silence wont help Celtic, it will make things worse.

Im being honest when i say, that i cant see much difference between DD and Dave King….cut from the same cloth.

Maybe thats why DD praises them so much.

Its a bad day when standing against cheating in football….is ridiculed.

Then….its no longer football, just cheating.

Who wants to watch that…not me anyway.

    HH

  22. How can a PLC allow its biggest rivals away with cheating & our governing body ? They are supposed to protect all members ? It’s a scandal.

  23. Maggie,

    Sips,

Yep, the consensus may be rite for now…..but it could also be wrong going forward…..we have a potentially very good young midfield/central defensive partnership…..but we also have a lot of deadwood to offload…..me, I’m in the patience will out bracket
