The Celtic Globetrotters

I don’t know what the commercial value of our summer games against Barcelona, Leicester City and Inter Milan are, but those three games are sure to dwarf the earnings we make from domestic media and prize money for the whole of next season.

TV rights for English Premier League football from next season will average just above £7m per game, that’s for each of the 10 games on the weekly card – Sweet Georgia Brown! The actual value of these varies enormously: Watford v Bournemouth has practically no commercial value, all the real value is added by games between big clubs – even the likes of Newcastle, who are a poor team, but one which many colours of football fans still want to watch.

In a different environment, TV rights for Celtic games would be north of that £7m per game figure (the increased exposure would also geometrically improve commercial rights values). Think what we could do with that kind of money…….. more paper towels in the gents, maybe, the possibilities are limitless!

Our position is far from unique, there are a dozen or so European teams of similar size who have been marginalised from what was once a meritocratic game, so change must (always) remain on our agenda. But for now, we have to make what we can from our role as the Celtic Globetrotters.

O.K. Now I’m confused. I’m been following Res 12 since its inception, but your post has thrown me for a loop. Are you really suggesting that BRTR is teasing us with a deadline that is a chimera?

Is the time bar date of March 31 real or not?

I have a good reason for asking. Two of my associates, with around 80 years of supporting Celtic between them, and not missing a game, have firmly averred that they will NOT be back if Celtic do not officially protest to UEFA.

I would add that Auldheid, Canalamar, BRTH and Morrisey et al have done a magnificent job. Please clarify the status of the time bar deadline, if you are able.

    Thank you very much.

Regardless of whether BRTH lit the fuse Celtic are refusing to take res12 on and that reveals all.

As for Celtic listening that’s exactly my point.

When Celtic fans start to protest the club do listen because they are forced too.

So my point now is ramp up that pressure and rather than the board appeasing the support, let’s get them to actually deal with the corruption?

    Yes?

  15. For those looking, a note I got earlier this week from Auldheid

Please remember to also copy your mandate to jjoe88@hotmail.co.uk

First may I begin by apologising to everyone, shareholder or otherwise who contacted me about the background to Resolution 12, most whom received the detail (and to some latterly who have not), for not providing or providing an update before now.

You may have seen on line that the situation became lets’ say fluid from mid-January. However I can assure you that we aim to make sure that any deadline to seek answers from UEFA if SFA continue to do nothing (see John Clark’s comments about Regan on SFM) will be met and in any case if any wrongdoing took place (which is likely) that UEFA can disregard any time bar rule.

Now with that assurance can I point you to the following from BRTH on Celtic Quick News and my second apology if you have already acted on it. BRTH makes it pretty clear why we want a mandate, the SFA have been playing an anonymity card since last July to avoid answering specific questions in our solicitors letter and when they did they

    a) Still made play of it and answered Celtic not our solicitor and

    b) Failed to address the issue of an overdue payable at 30th June.

It was this that John Clark was able to beard Regan on when given the opportunity. There is also mention in John Clark’s comments about Regan making play about JC’s anonymous “people.” It is their policy of avoidance using anonymity which prompted the following from BRTH to seek a mandate, which I have to emphasise is for shareholders only to complete, not to exclude but because only shareholders have the necessary locus that the SFA and Celtic cannot ignore. At the end of this long message is a mandate with instructions where to send both an electronic and paper copy so that our solicitor holds a physical hard copy.

You will also note that we are trying to reach shareholders who may be unaware of Resolution 12 and what drives it (making the SFA accountability to shareholding supporters for misgovernance, something that will benefit ALL supporters) so if you have friends who are Celtic shareholders can you forward this e mail to them and ask them to forward and so on.

I’ll also attach before the mandate page at the end a short punchy version to circulate to any Celtic supporting friends whose e mail address you have to inform them of Res12 shareholders or not..

    RES12 Action

As many will be aware, Stewart Regan recently dismissed any notion of the SFA taking action in the event of any administrative or licensing wrongdoing or oversight being pointed out to him. He also maintained that those who had supported Res 12 were effectively hiding behind social media names and so on and were in effect anonymous!

This is not so, as the organisation Regan heads up has been written to by a large commercial firm of solicitors who have clearly advised that they act on behalf of a distinct class of people, namely shareholders in Celtic plc. who signed up to and supported Res 12 at the 2013 AGM.

However, in order to leave the SFA with absolutely no room for manoeuvre or excuse for failing to answer any questions, and following on from various people posting on here that they would not object to their names being given to the solicitors who have been, and will be, writing to the authorities in furtherance of the resolution’s aims and objectives, it has been decided to ask for written mandates authorising the solicitors to on behalf of individual shareholders:

Accordingly, a style of standard mandate is produced below.

The mandate keeps the solicitors right, and it authorises them to write on behalf of the signatories to the SFA, Celtic PLC and UEFA. It does not authorises the solicitors to take any other action other than correspond.

It also authorises the solicitors to liaise with those who have already been instructing them in relation to the terms and the detail of any correspondence – in other words we (myself, Canamalar, Auldheid and Morrisey) will oversee the terms of the letters on behalf of all who sign the mandate.

By signing the mandate you will not be responsible for incurring fees or charges – they will be taken care of separately.

Accordingly, if you are a shareholder and you wish to add your name to those who are attempting to bring the SFA to heel via Res 12 and an approach to UEFA please print and sign the mandate below and post the signed copy to:

    Mean City Media

    Suite 5

    8 Sandyford Place

    Glasgow

    G3 7NB

At the same time, if you can scan the signed mandate you can e-mail it to jjoe88@hotmail.co.uk but it should also be posted.

If you cannot scan the signed mandate but have posted one, please drop a quick line to jjoe88@hotmail.co.uk to say that you have done so:

Can I stress that the sooner any mandates are signed and sent the better.

    Thanks

WHAT IS RESOLUTION 12 ABOUT? (TO INFORM SUPPORTERS WHO ARE NOT SHAREHOLDERS IN CELTIC PLC)

ON 31st MARCH 2011 THE SFA AWARDED RANGERS A UEFA LICENCE

AT THAT TIME RANGERS HAD A LIABILITY ACCEPTED ON QC ADVICE TO HMRC OF £2.8 MILLION

IN MAY THAT LIABILITY CRYSTALISED WITH ARRIVAL OF TAX DEMAND AND AT 30 JUNE IT BECAME AN UNPAID OVERDUE PAYABLE TO HMRC.

UEFA RULES CAN BAR CLUBS WHO HAVE UNPAID TAX BILLS FROM PLAYING IN UEFA COMPETITIONS AT BOTH 31st MARCH AND 30 JUNE

DESPITE THIS, RANGERS WERE ALLOWED SOMEHOW TO KEEP THE LICENCE AT THE 30 JUNE CHECKPOINT IN SPITE OF NOT PAYING THE TAX DEMAND RECEIVED IN MAY AND NOT HAVING ANY LEGITIMATE REASON NOT TO.

A GROUP OF CELTIC FANS/SHAREHOLDERS RAISED THIS ISSUE AT THE 2013 CELTIC AGM (RESOLUTION 12)

SINCE THEN THE GROUP HAVE ASKED THE SFA TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED

THEY HAVE REFUSED TO ANSWER US

IT WILL NOW BE TAKEN TO UEFA BY THE GROUP.

WE BELIEVE IT WOULD BE BEST IF THE APPROACH TO UEFA WAS TAKEN UP BY THE CLUB RATHER THAN THE FANS

HOWEVER ONE WAY OR ANOTHER THE SFA MUST BE MADE TO ANSWER WHY A UEFA LICENCE WAS ALLOWED TO BE RETAINED BY RANGERS WHEN THERE IS STRONG EVIDENCE TO SUGGEST IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AND THE BOARD OF CELTIC ARE THE RIGHT PEOPLE TO PURSUE THIS WITH UEFA.

  16. Cognitive dissonance: the state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioural decisions and attitude change.

If we allow the following premises to be true:

Celtic are powerless to stop TRFC gaining promotion to the SPFL Premiership

Such a promotion will increase Celtic’s income, which is all The Board/DD/PL care about.

Not to challenge the SFA shenanigans re Res12 and LNS will reduce that additional income by an unknown factor, could possibly produce a loss.

BUT challenging the SFA will reassure Celtic supporters that the club are with them in wanting to change corrupt/incompetent governance and so by doing so will not only prevent any reduction in the additional income, but might actually boost the income and galvanise the support then…..

How can Celtic be complicit in wanting TRFC back if the only motivation is money?

There may be other reasons that create the silence that produces such inconsistent thinking but going the ethical and self protection path to me seems like a win win for Celtic on all fronts, given that they are powerless to do anything about TRFC getting promotion but can do something to protect themselves from their cheating.

Big Georges Fan Club – Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar – Sack the Board – Lawwell Out on 23rd March 2016 6:50 pm –

No I’ll always support Celtic. I’m taking a break from Celtic as this current situation will not end well. I’ll watch the New Firm unfold at a distance. I’m finished with CQN because it has turned into a caricature of what it was supposed to prevent i.e. Lazy Journalism. Its also full of too many happy-clappers, green huns, fascists, Tims that cannot differentiate the board from the club, religious nutters, sanctimonious holy willies, contempt for even attempting anything kind of intellectual and a plethora of school prefects that cant take a joke etc. Not the kind of Celtic supporters I know. Also since I start a new job/new life April 1st the timing is right.

    ——-

Appreciate you taking the time to reply – thanks. Glad you’ll keep supporting – I don’t see how you could stop.

I’ve been trying to educate Wee BGFC about what’s been going on behind the scenes since I discovered the Rangers Tax Case blog, and particularly recently having seen Auldheid’s dossier – real corruption of the rules by the SFA starkly laid out. For a young chap, he absorbs everything fantastically well, asks great questions, etc. – however, he always ends up discussions with something like “…Aye, but we’re still going to the game, dad…”

I don’t see how things can end well either – too much of a bad taste in the mouth built up over the past four or five years, and no proper resolution either.

So, understand, but sorry to see you go. Hope the new job and life are brilliant, and that the SFA cabal gets cleared out so you can re-engage.

Ronny’s master-plans might come to fruition – saw really good signs last year for a fair period – more than 20 shots per game, good movement, etc. Severe lethargy seems to have gripped the squad this season, but there have been lots of squad changes and injuries, so some justification. Need to get the impetus back.

Your reply to Thomthethim gives some comfort that UEFA might consider investigating the matters germane to Resolution 12. On that basis has consideration been given to the PR on the submission.

I assume that the submission will be mailed International Data with a requirement for receipt to be issued on delivery. However, would it be an idea to alert Swiss TV and sports media and have a delegation, with banner and copies of detailed complaints anent Resolution 12, possibly translated into German for issue outside UEFA HQ. This could be financed by crowd funding from CQN contributors.

    Any thoughts?
