The curious significant of 1 June

1642

There’s something I’ve never been able to figure out for the last nine years.  When Gordon Strachan was announced as Celtic manager, on 1st June 2014, he apologised to the media for bumping their calls the previous week, as he was due to takeover on that date, and the announcement was embargoed until then.

No idea why the news was embargoed, but it was.  Tomorrow’s the 1st June.  If the same rules hold true now as when Gordon Strachan was appointed, there was little chance of an appointment in late May.

If you’re not going to the CQN 10-in-a-row Charity Golf day on 4 July the Sean’s Trust Charity Dinner is on the same night at the Fullarton Suits, Glasgow.  Sean’s Trust is run by the late St John Doyle’s partner, Linda.  If you’d like to attend let Lennybhoy know, lennybhoycfc@gmail.com

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

  1. Although I would have preferred Neil to continue the one criticism you could say about Celtic post-Wanyama were too easily beaten in the big games.

    – Shakhtar Karagandy away and Aberdeen in cup and the last three CL group games

Injuries did play a big part but considering the best part of our team is in defence then it shouldn’t have been the case.

The CL draw doesn’t look easy so getting Lustig fit and ready will be key for me.

I agree. WC obviously put that bet on a few years back and is flush heavy with his winnings ;-) Rather than revealing, he’s contemplating doubling up for his pension on us being,EPL champions ;-)

Vmhan, john fallon is one of us who knows how privileged he was to wear the hoops. Didnt know he was the number 12 in lisbon and the only sub! To be in his company and hear the stories is a great experience.

  12. paolosboots –

John Fallon was indeed Celtic’s 12th man in Lisbon.

From season 1965/66, each club was allowed to have one substitute stripped and prepared for action, but he could only ever be used to replace an injured player.

In season 1966/67 the rule was extended to allow a substitution for tactical reasons.

Yes, I fly into Glasgow on Saturday evening.

Have already bought season books so can’t wait to get back to supporting the Bhoys in the flesh, so to speak.

I will also be seeing the new stadium environs for the first time and am keen to have a pre-match beer in the bar, can’t remember its name now.

  18. A nice quote from Aiden re Roy coming to us

“Going from what I’ve seen from him being in and around us, that’s the impression I have. He won’t take any crap off the media up there either, which is good”

Just back tonight still got a day off tomorrow had a brill time, how was your weekend away?

  20. If Keane is appointed he gets my support. However I’m hoping he’s a smokescreen. I just don’t see RK and CFC being a long term marriage…
