The future is Scott Bain’s, if he can grasp it

842

It’s just another story of a player sitting in the stands at Dundee before moving to the bench at Hibs and then a four year contract at Celtic.  All in less than four months.  Scott Bain is 26 years old and were it not for a personal issue with Neil McCann would still be at Dens Park.

Instead, he will see out his 20s as a Celtic goalkeeper.  He is 11 years younger than Dorus de Vries (37) and 9 younger than Craig Gordon (35).  He caught Brendan Rodgers eye and is now a development project for the manager.  The future is his, if he can grasp it.

Congratulations on your new contract, Scott.

A Bluenose can be a good person in all other areas of his life; a Hun cannot be so as there are no other areas in his life . He is full of hatred. I have met Green Huns. The difference is in the percentages. Sevco have many more than do we.

  2. Hun and Bluenose

To me, a Bluenose is someone who genuinely wants to watch their team, in this case Sevco, and doesn’t care about the bigotry that surrounds it. To be fair they are in the minority.

A Hun is someone who doesnt necessarily follow a football team but is of the We Are The Peepul brigade, in life, not in sport. Could support Hearts, Sevco, Killie or whatever.

I know Sevco fans who are Bluenoses, and Motherwell fans who are Huns.

    I prefer Bluenoses.

I missed a lot of games this season, I think Astana was my last game, but I couldn’t have gone to the games anyway, I lost over 5 stone in 4 months,But they managed to find what was wrong with me, thank god.

I, myself tend to use ‘hun’ as a general term for deadclub fans. However there is a negative connotation to the term which ,to be fair, is appropriate for most of their fans. However, there are some decent, fair minded ones among them who I would refer to as bluenoses.

Absolutely. Not long back; I had beef olives in a red wine sauce with new potatoes and veg (Kuala, broccoli and chanterelle carrots) washed down with a bottle of Chroniicon Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. Mrs VFR had fish skewers (halibut, scallops, cod and salmon) on a bed of mussels with tomato sauce. It was accompanied by rice. As she was driving that was washed down by a bottle of sparkling San Pellegrino.

    Highly recommended.

Booking is absolutely essential on a Friday and Saturday night and recommended on any night.

With respect, that is your interpretation and it’s very plausible. However I don’t think that is the interpretation of the wider Scottish football supporter.

I may be totally wrong though. Many thanks for your reply. Appreciated.

  7. Edward Ursus was definitely not a Hun. He actually came to one of our Hootenanny`s ( When it was just called `meeting for a drink` ). A very decent bloke.

PS He was more positive about Celtic than some stalwarts on here !

Greenpinata , my late dad was born in 1926.

He told me the huns were called huns as far back as he could remember.

He stated it went back to world war 1 as a reference to rangers fans loyalty to the Royal family as they were of German descent plus some Rangers players avoided the trenches by getting jobs in the shipyards and other reserved occupations .

A Killie fan Jimmynotpaul and I are friendly with , referred to what was Rangers as the Boche, the name the French called the Germans in World War 1.

  11. ALL Celtic fans Fenians. Others, who at least try to think, will differentiate between Huns and Bluenoses).

They got out, Bobby, and thank God, but her and her dad were with an uncle and a nephew at the back of the stand, and she nagged her dad to get closer to the front, so they moved down and said they would meet up again at half time. The uncle and nephew did not survive.

The stuff of nightmares, of which she still has many.

Anyway, let’s talk about chocolate. Or girls. Or beer. Or anything – quizzes!

  13. Back in the day, when the likes of Edward Ursus posted, common courtesy to one another was the norm.

I still read regularly/ daily , but without the same enjoyment.

Too many too often resort to an abrasiveness, rather than argument or banter, to make their point.

I have been told stories of the Mayor of Barcelona referring to them as being `like an army of invading Huns` .

I have heard the same re the Mayor of Wolverhampton.I can vouch for neither.

I do, however, have first hand memory of singing :

    Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,

    Jingle all the way.

Oh what fun it is To F***

The Hun on New Year`s Day !

and that was certainly before Rangers supporters desecrated much of Barcelona.

  19. I bought my first CQN badges from Pablophanque when he lived in Dumfrieshire somewhere & I lived in Melrose. Still got those badges.

I agree with OldTim, Ed Ursus was a gent & a decent guy.

    BMCUWP

Folk left the blog (never Celtic) because of vitriolic, partisan, drunk and offensive crap directed at those who didn’t share the opinions of some posters who thought that THEY big time charlies.

Embramike’s words stand out for me. “It’s a football blog & anything else is very thin ice.”(paraphrased)

Religion, politics, independence (especially), culture, all damaged the spirit on here.

For gawds sake we can’t even agree on Celtic matters apparently, but clappers & shafters always knew that they had one thing to unite them – the club.

All it takes is for good men to say nothing – we know when posters are out of order.

When opinions are challenged by cyber bullies.

When those who have neither the time nor inclination to bandy words with pot stirrers.

When the whole positive purpose of coming onto the blog is hijacked by folk who only want to ram their own personal agenda down everyone’s throat, regardless of the damage.

When these things happen – follk drift away and find somewhere more amenable to spend their Celtic time.

Even now, I will drop in & if certian folk are on – then I’ll immediately check out.

When we stopped showing a modicum of respect for those with different views and stopped self-moderating is when it all went south – but not as far south as Swindon.

    Glad you’re recovered.

    Quick dip,,

I might be wrong here ,, very wrong,, but I believe Edward Ursus ( an absolute gentle man as many have said ) upon hearing of underhanded tax policies called it a day with a graceful post explaining why and how it was for the best to avoid future conflict when bad news comes out and that he personally was very unhappy at what a certain Sir had done to his club of choice. i think I remember his graceful flounce.

Hot smoked , I’m 54 , started primary school in 1968 . In school the now defunct club were called huns .

Its still unclear how they became known as huns but I’m prone to go with the world war 1 connotations and as I mentioned in my last post, the Kille fan i’m pally with , calling the first Ibrox club , the Boche , supports it.
