The Juninho EBT

1126

I see several “fans’ groups” are engaged on the subject of our old friend, Juninho, who played around 13 games for Celtic eight years ago and benefited from an Employee Benefit Trust before and during his time at the club.

Can you believe this is where their focus is?

As Sir David Murray and a gaggle of his former directors will tell you, there is nothing illegal in EBTs, it’s the undeclared second contracts the football authorities have a problem with. Juninho’s EBT was not subject to any contract or side letter whatsoever. Moreover, our then chairman, Brian Quinn, regarded EBTs with suspicion and instructed the club to declare Juninho’s to the Revenue. Celtic even paid tax on money paid to the EBT.

The SFA and SPL, and every journalist in Scotland interested in getting a story right, are fully aware of the facts.

I suppose running with this beats looking at links between Green and Whyte. Keep up the good work, guys!

And for the record, stripping titles is not the ultimate sanction, not by the length of Argyle St.

Ah! I had that as well yesterday or the day before – no updates and new comments until I logged in.

Just heard from a mate that Ned Flanders has said on SSB that the fans have too much say!

So we should just listen to and accept as truth whatever tosh Flanders and his inept Rangers apologists spout?

Woefully out of touch and behind the times. CQN and RTC have completely rewritten the rules if engagement and the failure to see that is why SSB is dying. Talk about yesterday’s man!

BBC has reacted much better, with more and more prominence given to guys like Jim Spence and Stewart Cosgrove.

  3. What’s with people wanting us to make statements for accusations from some jumped up new 3rd divisions club/fans and a man who has run his businesses into the ground??!! And a media that writes pure tripe about us.

There are other clubs in the spl who used them… Hearts, and we know why and the link.

If you want statements, ask mr ogilvie at the spl, mr Regan, mr Doncaster.

Messrs Lawell & Lennon are focusing on Wednesday, vital game.

Hence the extra vitriol tonight then. Sad old fool.

  5. Guys, that Murray statement is best read with Shaggy’s “It wasn’t me!” playing in the background.

    What a pile of crap!

Wow! Flanders has just admitted that he is banned from Paradise!

    Well Done PL!

  6. Posted this earlier but I’ll try again –

I’m lucky enough to have ticxkets for 2 Olympic events. However, it turns out that I may not be able to attend one of them.

It’s my fault for buying in a rush but it seems tickets are completely non-transferable. I can’t even give them away.

It’s not a huge amount of money so I can live with the loss but it is frustrating when there’s tons of people who can’t go. Any ideas?

“The stripping of titles is a non-starter,” said McLeish. “I know it’s been mooted, but personally, I don’t think that it should go against Rangers.

“I was at the club at the time and had lawyers who looked at the contracts and everything was okayed. It’s not something I’m particularly comfortable about discussing.

“There was no cloak and dagger stuff. My lawyer looked at it and it was the type of contract that you know that going to a club like Rangers or Celtic, you would be expecting.

“I reduced the wages by half, so I’m not guilty of bringing any players in at top prices. It was in my era at Rangers it was about the opposite – I was working with the club to reduce the costs and wages and at the same time keeping the competitive edge, which we did.”

    ——————-

But are you guilty of helping to move these players on by using EBT as part payment of a working contract ?

The answer has to be Yes Alex

I read it as this after a few too many African woodbine:

I like your nightdress and new perm, it may be threadbare but do not squirm. Be still thy dachshund, and sleep your cork well hung firmly behind thy briefs. Rangers signing spree at an end

Rangers manager Alex McLeish does not expect to make any more signings before the start of the season.

And he admits that he is in the dark about the Ibrox future of Greece defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos.

Kyrgiakos had a successful loan spell from Panathinaikos last season and Rangers are still attempting to finalise a permanent move.

“We’ve pushed out the boat in terms of budgets, so there won’t be much more until players leave,” said McLeish.

Defender Jose-Karl Pierre-Fanfan, midfielders Brahim Hemdani and Dany N’Guessan, striker Federico Nieto and the versatile Ian Murray have arrived this summer.

Striker Peter Lovenkrands, midfielder Dragan Mladenovic and defenders Zura Khizanishvili, Maurice Ross and Michael Ball all appear to be surplus to requirements.

But no moves out of Ibrox have been secured despite some interest for Ross and Khizanishvili in particular.

“We need to balance the books and wages to the right level,” said the Rangers boss, whose side face Linfield in Belfast in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

“We have one or two sniffs here and there but nothing concrete as yet.

“But we’ll keep close contact with the agents when something happens.”

McLeish is still in the dark over the future of Kyrgiakos, who reportedly failed to turn up at training with Panathinaikos.

“I don’t know what’s happening,” he said. “We are having ongoing negotiations, but that will obviously have to come to a head soon.

“You probably know more than me about him going awol, but I haven’t given up hope of him coming back.

“I have not made any plans to look for another centre-half. There are not many names out there.”

McLeish insisted that he has not yet decided whether fit-again Stefan Klos or Ronald Waterreus, signed as cover in January, would start in goal against Livingston when the league starts on 31 July.

“Ronald Waterreus and Allan McGregor will travel to Northern Ireland and Stefan will keep working on his sharpness and fitness, but he should be between the sticks against Ipswich,” he said.

“They are all my number one goalies and I haven’t decided who I think is equipped to start the season.

“It’s mouth-watering for the media to speculate on what Alex McLeish’s decision is going to be.

“But you will have to wait and see. It’s good news for me that I will have an experienced man not starting.”
