I see several “fans’ groups” are engaged on the subject of our old friend, Juninho, who played around 13 games for Celtic eight years ago and benefited from an Employee Benefit Trust before and during his time at the club.
Can you believe this is where their focus is?
As Sir David Murray and a gaggle of his former directors will tell you, there is nothing illegal in EBTs, it’s the undeclared second contracts the football authorities have a problem with. Juninho’s EBT was not subject to any contract or side letter whatsoever. Moreover, our then chairman, Brian Quinn, regarded EBTs with suspicion and instructed the club to declare Juninho’s to the Revenue. Celtic even paid tax on money paid to the EBT.
The SFA and SPL, and every journalist in Scotland interested in getting a story right, are fully aware of the facts.
I suppose running with this beats looking at links between Green and Whyte. Keep up the good work, guys!
And for the record, stripping titles is not the ultimate sanction, not by the length of Argyle St.

Juninho has an ebt set up in April 2005 and leaves on Apr 5th 2005 having played no games during his 5 day ebt.
The £765,000 was obviously a payoff ,
he had signed a two year contract in aug 2004.

And Murray is oh so wrong. Tax Avoidance is not a right. It is not even legal. It appears to be subject to more complicated law than tax evasion and is usually pursued in civil courts and such like. Hence the FIrst Tier Tribunal and all that malarky regarding their tax avoidance scheme. This was all explained in the Rangers Tax Case ages ago!!

The point I’m trying to make is that if Celtic respond to this story because it’s in the MSM, then, in the future, if they don’t comment on a rumour, the MSM will go to town with it.
Treat it like it’s summer and the MSM are linking a new player with us every other day. When they ask the club if the transfer story is true, the response is nada. No news on any player until he signs.
I think the club will be ok even with the claims of cheating and hypocrisy from the huns.

Regarding our diminutive Brazilian – I think the best thing for Celtic to do is put all of the paper work on the table for all to see.
If we did wrong we explain how it happened, apologise and take the appropriate rap. There is a big difference between pandering to the demands of one player and his agent and systematically hiding extra payments from both civil and footballing authorities over a 12 year period. See, that pesky truth thing getting in the way again!!

What a night indeed….off the back of a glasgow Derby (remember them ???) win we travelled full of optimism……

That’s not the issue.
The issue is one of double contracts.
As I understand it the huns are saying that Celtic didn’t inform the SPL of Juninho’s EBT when they should have and therefore fielded an ineligible player.
