The Juninho EBT

1126

I see several “fans’ groups” are engaged on the subject of our old friend, Juninho, who played around 13 games for Celtic eight years ago and benefited from an Employee Benefit Trust before and during his time at the club.

Can you believe this is where their focus is?

As Sir David Murray and a gaggle of his former directors will tell you, there is nothing illegal in EBTs, it’s the undeclared second contracts the football authorities have a problem with. Juninho’s EBT was not subject to any contract or side letter whatsoever. Moreover, our then chairman, Brian Quinn, regarded EBTs with suspicion and instructed the club to declare Juninho’s to the Revenue. Celtic even paid tax on money paid to the EBT.

The SFA and SPL, and every journalist in Scotland interested in getting a story right, are fully aware of the facts.

I suppose running with this beats looking at links between Green and Whyte. Keep up the good work, guys!

And for the record, stripping titles is not the ultimate sanction, not by the length of Argyle St.

  1. Strange how all the staff past and present who have been recipients of EBT’s know nothing aboutt the money they were paid and make great mention of their advisors, agents, accountants and lawyers what a parcel of rogues….get hector in among this pack of wolves.

I do have a bit of sympathy in that if a solicitor or accountant had recommended this scheme to me and said it was fine, everyone does it, I’d probably not have given it any further thought. BUT that is countered by the fact that several of the foreigners have said that they thought it was odd. If alarm bells rang for Boumsong, then why not for the others?

they were suggesting we all went to west ham when i left but they werent making us do it and its a much much longer journey from west ham. we hardly waited any time at all for the javelin and it takes you right into st pancras in no time at all, i’d insist that you need to take the train from there if anyone tries to stop you, either that or tell them you’re going to the westfield shopping centre as that’s right next to stratford international where you get the javelin from.

  4. Thanks Celticbhoy72.

Will do. Avoid the West Ham route, as it 15/20 mins walk on a good day, and head for Stratford International when leaving. I will be using the Central Line and heading in the opposite direction from Central London as I live only 25 mins away!

  5. for a mob thats supposed to be skint, seems that they want to sign a few decent players ,the likes of sandanza, kevin kyle,2 good target men etc. lennon wants to sign at least another striker, and a centre half, but apparantly he has no money at the present to sign anybody, makes you wonder which 1 is realy skint.but then nothing surprises me anymore with that mob that is in charge of celtic ,

  6. RE Paddy McCourt. I have it on good authority (the next best thing from the horse’s mouth) that it’s his knees that cause him the bother. He loves the club and is extremely grateful for the time that he does get on the pitch. My opinion is that Lenny would play him more if Paddy was able to do it.

RE Olympic stadium travel. I’d get the javelin train from Stratford International. 8 trains per hour till about 11pm, then more from 11pm through the night and only takes about 10 mins to St Pancras. Plenty of signs and people to point you in the right direction when you’re there.

Don’t listen if they want to send you to West Ham, it’s not a 10min walk like they’ll tell you, closer to 20!!!

    weeminger,

No. That’s to do with him rampaging round the pitch like an enraged bull.

  10. hey celtic charity begins at home ,get the finger out and get them 2 players that is required,

    weeminger,

so your cover all argument doesnt cover all, Brown does get a lot of niggling injuries, and your ergument would condemn him as unfit.

might go to firhill tonight, if the weather stays nice.

  13. I agree, the EBTs were a risky business decision that has gone badly wrong.

The real crime is in the registering of contracts at SFA. Clubs the size of Rangers and smaller, will be fully aware of the registration criteria. This is where I think a deliberate dishonest decision was made regarding player registrations. This is why titles should be stripped. But who is responsible? Funny that all this talk of title stripping breaks Murray´s silence.

“As was required of a PLC, all accounts were fully audited and made available to all entitled parties. All football rules were complied with. All enquiries from entitled parties or organisations were answered.”

All football rules were complied with???!!! I don´t think so Minty!

    It’s not a cover all.

Whenever hit ‘fitness’ comes up in debtate people comment that it’s ridiculous that after being here for so long that he (McCourt) still has fitness issues.

I’m just pointing out that in his case the fitness issues aren’t of the “he can’t run for 90minutes stamina variety” they’re related to his core strength (as was widely reported when he arrived and promptly disappeared for months and I vaguley recall a member of the Celtic staff appearing on Shortbread to detail it) and that his fitness issues relate more to his likelyhood of injury increasing the longer he stays on the park. And not in the same statistical way that it would for any other player.

You are right – I heard Neil lennon say the same thing – problem with his core strength.

I personally think McCourt’s body shape looks a bit different to how it should for a pro footballer as well. (As did neil lennon’s when he played). I am sure however that the bulk of the issue is due to a lack of core strength.

Sorry – but that isn’t true. Brown’s issues could be caused by something else entirely. (another example would be craig beattie – he had a number of niggling injuries related to weak hamstrings).

He just needs to join the mrs at her pilates class. Apparently it good for core strength.
