The Juninho EBT

1126

I see several “fans’ groups” are engaged on the subject of our old friend, Juninho, who played around 13 games for Celtic eight years ago and benefited from an Employee Benefit Trust before and during his time at the club.

Can you believe this is where their focus is?

As Sir David Murray and a gaggle of his former directors will tell you, there is nothing illegal in EBTs, it’s the undeclared second contracts the football authorities have a problem with. Juninho’s EBT was not subject to any contract or side letter whatsoever. Moreover, our then chairman, Brian Quinn, regarded EBTs with suspicion and instructed the club to declare Juninho’s to the Revenue. Celtic even paid tax on money paid to the EBT.

The SFA and SPL, and every journalist in Scotland interested in getting a story right, are fully aware of the facts.

I suppose running with this beats looking at links between Green and Whyte. Keep up the good work, guys!

And for the record, stripping titles is not the ultimate sanction, not by the length of Argyle St.

Agreed. But McCourt is one of those representative iconic players who can be a game-changer,even if he’s only on for 15 minutes, and imho, our squad is big and expensive enough to accommodate the likes of Paddy and even if he is an indulgence,I can think if a few others of zero use whatsoever, but for reasons beyond me, we keep them.

Celtic and SPL announce YouTube partnership

By: Newsroom Staff on 07 Aug, 2012 09:47

The SPL today announced a partnership with YouTube. Celtic supporters can catch highlights from every Clydesdale Bank Premier League match for the next three seasons on the video-sharing website via the ‘splofficial’ channel.

The groundbreaking deal is a first for league football in the UK. From season 2012/13 ‘splofficial’ will be the place to catch all the goals, skills, best saves and top tackles from the top tier of Scottish football, while being a platform for supporters to share their own videos and experiences as they follow their club throughout the season.

The ‘splofficial’ channel will also cover pre and post-match reaction from players and managers.

Celtic will also soon be launching their own channel where supporters will be able to catch up with Neil Lennon and the Bhoys away from the pitch and gain unprecedented access to behind-the-scenes at Celtic Park.

The ‘splofficial’ channel can be accessed via the following URL: http://www.youtube.com/splofficial

Match highlights will be available for supporters in the UK to view from 6pm on Sundays.

Stuart MacPhee, SPL Commercial Manager, said: “Launching the ‘splofficial’ channel represents a new chapter in online fan engagement for our league.

“Making Clydesdale Bank Premier League content available on YouTube will allow fans to access all the best action, on and off the pitch, whenever they want and wherever they are, be it at home on the laptop or on their smartphone on the bus to work.”

Stephen Nuttall, Senior Director, Sports for YouTube Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “Football fans worldwide naturally go to YouTube to catch up on goals and highlights.

“Our partnership with The Scottish Premier League will give the global YouTube audience access to all aspects of Scottish football from the best on-field action to exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.”

We do not often answer to rumours of potential signings of new players but in this instance we feel it is necessary to do so. We have not put in a bit and haven’t even scouted this boy from Club Deck as he is to short and would not fit properly onto our main stand. We did have a look but felt he had underlying problems and a history of asbestos abuse.

The way I read BRTH’s post yesterday evening regarding the Trust, was that the liquidators of OldRfc could go after the money ‘loaned’ to the players/staff and it would be given to the creditors.

It was something to do with the fact that as it was the director’s of OldRfc who put the money into the trust KNOWING that it would be used fraudulently, the Trust loses any hold it has over any monies recovered.

I think he was also alluding to the fact that they could go after Minty for all the money paid into the Trust plus interest.

East Fife chairman Sid Collumbine admits tonight’s League Cup clash with Rangers chances of attracting anywhere near a capacity crowd have been affected by a green tractor.

The fallen Glasgow minnows host the Fifers in their first competitive home game since losing their history, although the fact that a green tractor was spotted in the grounds is expected to have a huge impact on this evening’s attendance figure.

With almost half the gate receipts heading to East Fife however, Collumbine hopes fans of both clubs will turn out in their droves – and potentially set both clubs up financially for the season ahead.

”Rangers were expecting 4,000 before the tractor, but they reckon it could be between 200 and 250 because the green tractor helped cut the grass,” the chairman explained.

”We’ve got a lot of supporters not going because they have to sign on in the morning and it disappoints us greatly – the two teams, in actual fact.

”It was the police’s decision to put it off to try and stop chelsea fans causing trouble and it’s just our sheer bad luck that Celtic won the league at a canter and were at home on Saturday as we might have got it played then.

”I suggested the Friday night but the police wouldn’t entertain that, as although they have lost their history they still have the fans that wrecked barcelona, sunderland and manchester and we dont want that happening to govan although it would be hard to notice the difference.” But I live in hope there’s a big crowd and it would be great for East Fife if our manager didnt sell-out – that would not even have been in my wildest dreams.

”It’s a massive occasion for the boys and we’ve no problems playing at a big park like New Ibrox because we played against 400 at Ochilview last year.

”I hope the pressure doesn’t get to them as we havent made the 2nd round of league cup in a while but as long as my team goes out there and gives it everything they’ve got, I’ll be happy.”

Do you not think that Jinky would make it in the modern game?

    – > I do. But I think a really great player like Jinky would prepare himself properly, in a professional manner in the modern era. Additionally, a good manager would pick a team around a player like that, to cover for any deficiencies.

McCourt is no Jinky. He is talented, and can offer ’15 minutes of mayhem’ off the bench – so i don’t have a problem with him being in the squad. i just don’t understand how he is still tolerated to have such appallingly low fitness/strength levels – he has been at the club for about 2 years. After 2 years in the Celtic system – he should have developed as an athlete. End of.

  15. Celtic coach Johan Mjallby has revealed that Scott Brown and James Forrest have been declared fit to travel to Finland and may face HJK Helsinki on Wednesday night.

Both Scotland internationals missed the opening SPL match of the season against Aberdeen on Saturday. Brown was sidelined with a hip injury while a groin problem ruled Forrest out.

Mjallby, who said that Georgios Samaras was fully fit after needing stiches on a facial injury, said only one player had failed ot make the trip.

“Everyone is travelling except for Mo Bangura who has a thigh strain,” he revealed. “Otherwise it’s good news.

“We have to assess a few of the boys after training tonight but right now at least we seem to have a full squad.

Too many athletes and not enough football players nowadays…

    Ruined the game….

  19. Further to my last post – I am not “anti-McCourt” and I do believe a Club of our size can carry a player like him in our squad. He does have something to offer, and can be valuable to the team (in limited bursts).

However – he should offer a lot more. To illustrate the difference, McCourt will in all likliehood fetch a transfer fee of 1 million max (and probably a good bit less). Wanyama on the other hand (due almost entirely to his strength, power and athleticism) could be sold for a huge figure if the Club manage the situation correctly.

Top clubs want athletes, hence why Wanyama’s value is so high, and mccourt’s so low. As such – we should be signing as many player like Wanyama as we possibly can.

Wee article here on Victor, and why the rich clubs are circling him.

that might be so – but what do you expect celtic to do about it?? It is the way of the world. Professionalism (and money) demands that players are professionaly prepared, and proper athletes.

We can either field a team of paddy mccourt/niall mcginn/james forrest/gary hooper type players, and continue to be embarassed by norwich-sunderland-swansea-wolves etc. Or….. we can sign the correct type of player – Wanyama, Mulgrew, Ciani, Rhodes, etc and match up properly against modern opposition.

I know which one I would prefer.

I had a discussion about Paddy last week, my protagonist told me how Paddy was not fit enough and did not do enough, I argued that Paddy was our best distributor and his defensive play was excellent.

I was told he did not perform defencively, so I challenged that he watched Paddy a bit closer on his defensive game, strangely enough my protagonist has not been back to tell me who was correct, I’m taking that as argument won :o)
