The Juninho EBT

1126

I see several “fans’ groups” are engaged on the subject of our old friend, Juninho, who played around 13 games for Celtic eight years ago and benefited from an Employee Benefit Trust before and during his time at the club.

Can you believe this is where their focus is?

As Sir David Murray and a gaggle of his former directors will tell you, there is nothing illegal in EBTs, it’s the undeclared second contracts the football authorities have a problem with. Juninho’s EBT was not subject to any contract or side letter whatsoever. Moreover, our then chairman, Brian Quinn, regarded EBTs with suspicion and instructed the club to declare Juninho’s to the Revenue. Celtic even paid tax on money paid to the EBT.

The SFA and SPL, and every journalist in Scotland interested in getting a story right, are fully aware of the facts.

I suppose running with this beats looking at links between Green and Whyte. Keep up the good work, guys!

And for the record, stripping titles is not the ultimate sanction, not by the length of Argyle St.

Saying that the guy only gets a shot at the team because of his nationality, name and place of birth is having a go at him IMO.

Young James didn’t play well at home against Helsinki. If Scott Brown is fit to play, I would put him right, replacing young James. I would then put Ledley in Broonie’s place.

  4. Could Ki become Celtic’s first player to win an Olympic medal whilst still at the club??

    Now that would be something..

Ki in action tonight at 7:45pm against Brazil. Still possible for Ki to become the first player to get an Olympic medal whilst at the club.

  5. Don’t sell McCourt, Paddy McCourt……..

He did add something extra last Saturday, a bit of directness, he also gets the twelfth man motivated, the atmosphere turns up a notch or two when he comes on, not to be underestimated.

He is not a ninety minute player though, long term Dylan may be the answer, short term, you might have a riot on your hands.

I can’t speak for MWD but I am not saying he gets in the team because of his religion or where he comes from. My point was and is that fans would not give him them adulation or revere him they way they do if he came from anywhere else.

I am not saying do not play him at all. At best, with the squad we have, Paddy is a bit part player who you should bring up when you are coasting. If he was as good as the way the fans idolise him, he would be in the team every week.

I most certainly am not bashing Paddy, far from it. I enjoy watching him when he is on the pitch. However, first and foremost we have to put a team on the pitch at kick-off that we expect to be good enough to win a game. I’m not having a pop but just wanted to clarify my position.

Paddy McCourt is only a mascot for the GB is probably the funniest thing I’ve heard on CQN in a long time. Couldnt stop laughing when I read that. Personally, I agree with u re why he only gets a few mins here and there. He has zero pace, he can beat a player (at SPL Level) but hasnt got the ability to drive away from players.

P.S. Dont tell Smashing Milk Bottles that u are not a fan of Paddybhoy McCourt, he was singing “Dont sell McCourt” at top of his voice on Sat

I’ve not seen enough of Paddy to make any final judgement, the problem for him is we have a lot of class in our midfield which has proven itself, without the huns he should be given more of a chance to prove himself but if he’s not what we need he should be allowed to go as the bhoy obviously has a uniqueness about his game and I genuinely hope he finds his niche either with us or elsewhere.

  10. I love Paddy, how could you not? He is a special player and some of the goals he scores are a joy to watch. I think Commons is the better all round player and I would like to see McGeouch get more of a chance. For me, it is a case of if you love them set them free. Paddy should be playing week in week out. If it isn´t going to be Celtic, then I think he could be elsewhere lighting up the championship with his magic…Hmmm…Naw changed my mind! Keep him! He is ours!

    @ Lennybhoy

That would be my team too. Forrest against Helsinki was a bit odd one. In the second half I sat fairly close to his wing. You are right he had a poor game. But he did have the beating of his full back all day long. It was just a shame his final ball was so poor. He, more than others, really looked like he was lacking match sharpness, possibly explained by his injury at the end of last season.

With SDM hinting that EBT loans may be called in, I assume he’ll lead by example & pay his £6.3m back in full, immediately? @rangerstaxcase

    (1) Does SDM have anything to do with this now (other than being a loan recipient? Whose right/responsibility would it be to call in the loans?

    (2) If the loans had been called in some time ago, they might have saved the club. If they were called in now, where would the money go? Creditors? Sevco?

    (3) There’s not really any likelihood of this, is there? Is it even possible theoretically, that the loans could be called in at this stage?

  16. Okay, I rarely post on CQN anymore so I can’t expect any of you favoured, cliquey types to lower yourselves to even read my posts never mind reply to them.

However, one poster has been asking the question below for months and not one of you have seen fit to respond.

“Whither the cash-strapped scrofulous Hillbillies the day?”

I know you are all too important but the poster in question is of brittle confidence and the continous blanking of his question by others on this site will do him no good at all…..besides, I personally would damn well like to know where those Hillbillies are today.

Sparkler- the Club Deck is bein’ reserved for Cee Lo Green’s mystery investors, eg Sir Guy of Gisborne, Saruman the White, Doug and Dinsdale Piranha.

  18. Paddy McCourt…..

Oustanding skill and technique, he would be in my starting 11 every week.

Link man between midfield and attack…..he is one man who gets me out my seat.

Very few do nowadays but Paddy has magic in they feet….and his nationality has nothing to do with it.

It’s all about the fitba…..and can that bhoy McCourt can play.

Selling Ki and Kayal is ok if we get decent money and replace them with very good players. Not IMO the one’s you mentioned.

That my friend, is the road to the dark side ;)

Bang on RE: Paddy. What makes a decent player a very decent player is consistently doing it. Paddy doesn’t even come close to that. It’s all about opinions obviously, but none of my fellow tim bhoys feel any different from me.

  24. SCOTT Brown has a “very good” chance of being fit for the second-leg of Celtic’s Champions League third qualifier against HJK Helsinki in Finland tomorrow night, according to assistant manager Johan Mjallby.

The Scottish champions are looking to defend their 2-1 lead from the first game at Parkhead last week.

The Parkhead skipper’s hip injury kept him out of the 1-0 Clydesdale Bank Premier League win over Aberdeen at weekend.

Winger James Forrest, who also missed the league’s curtain raiser, is battling to recover from a groin injury but forward Georgios Samaras has shrugged off the effects of a face injury sustained against the Dons while defender Charlie Mulgrew returns from suspension.

Before flying out from Glasgow airport, Mjallby said “Everyone is travelling except for Mo Bangura who has a thigh strain.

“We have to assess a few of the boys after training tonight. They (Brown and Forrest) missed out on the game at the weekend but we are delighted they are with us now.

“Obviously the physios and the doctors will do their best to make sure they are available for selection.

“The Scott I know, I think the (chances of playing) are quite good – very good.”

The former Celtic defender added: “We are leading 2-1 and yes, we are playing away from home but I don’t see any reason why we can’t go over there and win.

“But we need to be solid, we can’t make the same mistake we did a week ago when we conceded a goal on the counter-attack.

“I think Helsinki will need to go forward more than they did at Celtic Park which hopefully means there will be more space for our attacking players.”

Police fear for tractors safety at glamour tie -Chelsea fans infiltrate Sevco support.

Police last night spoke of their safety fears ahead of the powderkeg glamour tie at New Ibrox tonight. With a cunning initiative to increase revenue and not declare to the tax man Sevco have decided despite unprecedented season ticket sales to allow pay at the gate. Although this is ingenius it may allow Chelsea fans to infiltrate the Sevco support. some Chelsea fans are thought to have even went as far as to master Glasgow accents and even get Sevco badge tattooed on their overgrown arms. The police commander explained, “although we expect the vast majority of the record crowd to behave appropriately and sing their hearts out we have fears that the green tractor might get it. This will either be English fans trying to ruin the opening of New Ibrox or other Glasgow fans angered at the green tractor changing sides.”

Ex Sevco player Mark Hately said vandalising the tractor would be like a new signing.
