The Juninho EBT

1126

I see several “fans’ groups” are engaged on the subject of our old friend, Juninho, who played around 13 games for Celtic eight years ago and benefited from an Employee Benefit Trust before and during his time at the club.

Can you believe this is where their focus is?

As Sir David Murray and a gaggle of his former directors will tell you, there is nothing illegal in EBTs, it’s the undeclared second contracts the football authorities have a problem with. Juninho’s EBT was not subject to any contract or side letter whatsoever. Moreover, our then chairman, Brian Quinn, regarded EBTs with suspicion and instructed the club to declare Juninho’s to the Revenue. Celtic even paid tax on money paid to the EBT.

The SFA and SPL, and every journalist in Scotland interested in getting a story right, are fully aware of the facts.

I suppose running with this beats looking at links between Green and Whyte. Keep up the good work, guys!

And for the record, stripping titles is not the ultimate sanction, not by the length of Argyle St.

The model relies on lots of ‘front cash’ (STs) and very little trickle income (gate money). CG is looking for money up front from scmucks who won’t see a brass tosser post admin, (Christmas). The high earning players will simply p1ss off come the transfer window. Only a complete tit would front CG money in ST sales…caveat emptor…or ‘never give a sucker a break’.

    BRTH,

You are right ….Moonbeams is trying to flush the players out. Billy Dodds being part of the laptop inner circle got a heads up and spoke out because he knew that Murray had asked Jabba and Watty to start the campaign within media and football circles respectively.

Well Jabbas opinion piece is all about the wonderful Olympic spirit and sportsmen compared to our spolied brat footballers. He is even predicting future mutterings ….

He is laying the ground work ….along with the usual suspects ..a real weazel of a man

    Here is his article

The very day we, as fans of Scottish football, had been waiting for during a dull and wet close season, was on us. And yet none of it, the goals, results, bookings and dismissals mattered.

The human spirit, the glory of achieving seemingly impossible goals and the grace and elegance of true athletes burned brightly elsewhere.

This space is usually reserved for comment on the weird but rarely wonderful ways of Scotland’s national sport but no apologies are offered for deviating from the norm. It was opening day of the SPL but no, it didn’t inspire.

How could it when the inspirational are all in London putting jumped-up footballers, who reach the heights only in their conceit of themselves, in their places? And that is a distant second, especially when it comes to true greatness and humility.

Our footballers, who will never reach similar heights of excellence, probably scoff and wonder why they bother. That’s because most players and managers find it inconvenient to be asked for a few words at the end of matches and make it obvious they object to giving up their time.

You can be certain on numerous occasions this season players and managers will refuse to speak or, if they do, they’ll mumble the usual platitudes or sarcastic comments and try to demean the people asking.

They believe themselves to be superior although we, the media and the fans, have inflated their egos as we spend so much time talking and writing up their mediocre talents.

How many times have the players in our own broken game made us cringe with their crude, disrespectful approach to the media and fans?

Then there was Greg Rutherford, who leapt into the record books by becoming the first Briton since Lynn Davies, who took gold in the Tokyo Olympics 48 years ago, to win the long jump. He was another to speak with an honesty and charm which you wouldn’t get from footballers who take adulation for granted.

They just don’t get it. They have so much money and enjoy a status way beyond their abilities that they are detached from reality.

One of the most endearing aspects of these Games is the humility which seems to keep the feet of the athletes on home ground no matter how high or long they jump or how fast they run.

If some of our footballers learned from them they might help improve the game’s battered image. They might also improve themselves as people but having dealt with many of them I have to say it’s unlikely.

In a week or so they’ll be dominating the headlines again with their crass comments and disrespectful attitudes. They’ll be the only main show in town again and unfortunately for all of us, they’ll know it.
