The kind of Armageddon that buys you a meal, takes you to a show & onto a nightclub

738

As far as Armageddons go, this one will surely be known as the Amiable Nursemaid of all Armageddons.  The kind that not so much wipes everyone out, but buys them a meal, then takes them to a show and onto a nightclub.

Sky has renewed their deal to cover the Scottish Premier League after Our Man sorted them out yesterday.  They will show a handful of Scottish Football League games as part of the deal, a nice quid-pro-quo for SPL clubs for their annual contribution to the lower leagues.

Delicious irony: those SFL rights are worth more to each SPL club than they are to any SFL club.

Chief harbinger of doom, Neil Doncaster, will, on the one hand, be relieved that there is still income to pay his wages.  On the other hand, he must surely be embarrassed at the spectacularly in accurate scenario he portrayed to SFL clubs, and to several people in the media.  Did he embark on a flamboyant bluff or did he simply not know what he was talking about?

Remember, why we are here in the first place… Our good causes this year are The Haven Centre in Blantyre, Oscar Knox Neuroblastoma Appeal, Martin Chambers Ecuador Trust and Aberdour Primary School Parents’ Association.

We have already distributed over £2000 thanks to the sale of a Joseph Gormley painting back in April. We have two further fantastic paintings by Joseph; one of Scott Brown and one of Henrik Larsson. We also have a wonderful signed Neil Lennon print by the artist Gary Brandham.

The items are being raffled on ebay right now for the price of a £1 ticket. Winners will be drawn at the CQN Open on Friday night. There will be further raffles and auctions on Friday night with some excellent golfing and other sporting activities been donated by the Celtic family. Perhaps the pick is a limited edition canvas print of John Thomson, donated by the John Thomson Memorial Committee. There are only 22 of these in the entire world, representing the 22 years of John’s life.

This is a unique opportunity to win three great pieces of Celtic memorabilia, items which would normally be pushed out of the reach of most people at auction. Tickets cost £1, buy as many as you like, but participate. This is what your club is all about!

    Yes!!!

I still drink in Trader’s Tavern right in the middle of the Barras. Many years ago I took the ex Mrs ht in for a pre match drink.

After a while she had to use the ladies which was situated in the lounge which was closed though you could get to it via an adjoining door from the bar.

She came back in firstly to ask for a key as the toilet was locked.

Secondly she came back for a lightbulb as there wasn’t one there.

Thirdly she had to come back for toilet roll as there was none of that either.

She didn’t come back to Trader’s after that.

  9. Re season tickets:

I didn’t realise the £50 seats for kids had been formally scrapped until today.

I realise the debate is that generally £125 or so is still good value for a season.

Unfortunately, The Kano Foundation will be hit fairly hard with this. We are able to do what we do due to the low price of season tickets for kids. What is a fairly moderate increase, in some people’s opinion, for an individual ticket is multiplied x52 for us making it a bit more difficult to take kids to the games.

Due to the worldwide support we have received over the past 2 years we increased our allocation this year but if the tickets were to increase in price by that much then there may be a need to look at reducing our allocation next season which would be unfortunate.

I’m not looking to comment on the rights or wrongs or the reasoning behind the move but just giving an idea of the impact it could have on at least one group.

It is the Celtic family that has already made it possible for us to increase the allocation. It is definitely not left to The Kano Foundation to subsidise the potential increase. We effectively administer tickets that are bought by funds donated by the Celtic family. Without the great support we already receive we could not do what we do.

  19. To take a lead from RTC, the most urgent matters outstanding are the result from the FTT and the SPL investigation into the illegal registration of players

Hopefully, nothing will influence the outcome of the FTT. That body will deliver a verdict on David Murray’s business morality. The verdict on his business ability has already been delivered, and he now sits on the same shelf as Gerald Ratner, Robert Maxwell and Asil Nadir.

The SPL enquiry will sit shortly and it has already stated there is a Prima Facie case to answer. I have no doubt, none whatsoever, not even a trillionth of a percent , that Rangers are as guilty as sin in regards to this case. Mark Daly in his documentary confirmed that he had seen multiple examples of side letters. RTC has also attested to evidence in this regard.

When the guilty verdict is delivered by the SPL, as it must be, I hope they ask themselves 2 questions when handing down the punishment.

1 If Peterhead play half a dozen players who are illegally registered against The Rangers at the weekend what action will be taken against them by the League

2 If Falkirk play an entire team who are illegally registered against The Rangers in the Ramsdens Cup, will they be allowed to retain a Victory should they achieve it

The SPL, and the appeal body the SFA , would be opening a Pandora’s box if they fail to take the appropriate action. Lets not forget that Rangers under David Murray, if found guilty of illegal registration, not only cheated clubs in the SPL out of trophies and European places, they defrauded them of very significant sums of money. More than £80 million over the period of this deception.

The very least, and i use that advisedly , that should happen is that titles will be stripped. We are already seeing a downplaying of importance in this regard by “reasonable” commentators like Graham Spiers, and an outrage at the very thought by the less than reasonable, led by McCoist.

To put into perspective the language that the media use , in this case Keith Jackson of the Daily Record, I would like to quote from his article of September 30th 2009. This was on the occasion his favourite football team were thumped 0-4 by Seville, and the referee missed an admittedly obvious penalty for Rangers.

1 As stonewallers go this one could have kept Genghis Khan and his Mongols out of Peking. So big, so blatant and so obvious it could have been spotted by a man on the moon.

Sadly for Rangers, however, there was one rocket of a man who couldn’t quite make it out from all of 15 yards away and after this act of astonishing ineptitude, Scotland’s champions would go on to crash and burn quite spectacularly in the rarefied atmosphere of the Champions League.

2 Done in by a dodgy Eriksson. Swedish official Jonas Eriksson to be precise.

3 You really had to feel for Walter Smith and his players. This time they really had a case. These players were left utterly bemused by the failure of one of UEFA’s leading whistlers to do his job and point to the penalty spot the moment Abdoulay Konko whipped the legs from under Steven Naismith.

4 Everyone could see it. Konko was as guilty as sin. But, quite incredibly, Eriksson choked and balked his responsibilities in jaw-dropping fashion.

5 Naismith thumped his fists off the rainsodden turf and let out a cry of disbelief. McCulloch ran at Eriksson pleading with him to do the right thing but it was over. Gone.

6 But this time these players don’t just have themselves to blame. They can thank Eriksson for his part in their unseemly demise.

Now you can feel his pain, you can sense the anger that jumps out in every single word of this article. I wonder, well actually I don’t really , will we see such prose to describe the 12 years of corrupted competition when Murray cheated and defrauded Scottish Football.

Will there be an outpouring of bile about Dodgy Dave in the way he was so quick to label the Swedish referee a Dodgy Eriksson. Has Spiers or any of the other had wringers ever thought for a second what was entailed in illegally registering 50 + players. It wasn’t just an oversight , it was a concerted effort to defraud the sport, the clubs and the paying public.

Will we see the great administrator being accused of being a Rocket, because he claimed to be looking in the other direction when over 100 contracts were deposited with the SPL which were a masterclass in deception. Will be see him accused of choking and balking his responsibilities ?

Dougiegate wouldn’t have happened without CQN, The Rangers would be looking forward to their first ever SPL game this weekend without RTC. Citizen journalism will ensure that the honest journalists amongst the mainstream media are not alone in trying to uphold the code of ethics employed by the society of professional Journalists ( http://www.spj.org/ethicscode.asp )

I will quote just a few guidelines, the rest are on the link

    Seek Truth and Report It

Journalists should be honest, fair and courageous in gathering, reporting and interpreting information.

    Journalists should:

    — Test the accuracy of information from all sources and exercise care to avoid inadvertent error. Deliberate distortion is never permissible.

    — Identify sources whenever feasible. The public is entitled to as much information as possible on sources’ reliability.

    — Always question sources’ motives before promising anonymity. Clarify conditions attached to any promise made in exchange for information. Keep promises.

    — Examine their own cultural values and avoid imposing those values on others.

    — Distinguish between advocacy and news reporting. Analysis and commentary should be labeled and not misrepresent fact or context.

    — Distinguish news from advertising and shun hybrids that blur the lines between the two.

    — Recognize a special obligation to ensure that the public’s business is conducted in the open and that government records are open to inspection.

Now if Traynor , Jackson, King , Young and the rest of their gang held any regard for a code of ethics at all, RTC would have been redundant. We cant trust them conduct their trade honestly or ethically. Thats why we all have some work to do yet.

The day that I see a journalist doggedly pursuing Souness about why he received multiple EBT loans and ditto for Walter Smith, is the day i will believe we have a mainstream media we can trust.

Until then, none of you are dismissed. Stand by your post, you are all expected to report for further duty.

  22. Hello chomrades, can you help?

I’m totally lost. Apparently, Sevco 5088 applied for the transfer of Rangers FC’s membership in the SFA.

As they await the decision on this, Rangers FC changed their name to The Rangers FC.

SkySports have tonight reported the name change on its scrolling news banners.

IMMEDIATELY after the story re the name change of Rangers FC to The Rangers FC, it is then reported that “Rangers” have signed a player and offered a contract to another.

Is there an Editor on the night shift at SkySports tonight??

Lenny has been asking for a CH and a striker for long enough.

Fojut was coming in till he got injured, where is his replacement ???

Aye Pete, I really hope your gamble pays off, you will be a hero if it does, you will have let Lenny and the support, who pay your wages btw, down very badly if it doesn’t.

Some supporters stand by the board whatever they do, I contribute to the club a fair whack each season, I have as much right to critisise the board as others have to stick up for them, I feel PL is letting the support and the manager down, big time, we have a decent chance of making millions this season, a couple of additions, the wages saved would well cover them, would give us a better than even chance of the millions, and PL has seen fit to gamble.

    You have some baws Pete.
