The Mahatma Gandhi question

902

It was curious that Peter Lawwell was quizzed on potentially having a conflict of interest in deciding if a recent multiple-convict would be regarded by the SFA as Fit and Proper to direct a football club.  The club in question are not even in our league; conflict exists only in the heads of those who persist in believing in a ‘Firm which expired on the liquidation of one party.

I’ve avoided the appropriateness of a recent convict directing a football club as the deciding matters appear overwhelmingly obvious.  There are no written rules on being Fit and Proper, largely due to the Mahatma Gandhi question posed by Neil Doncaster last year.  Gandhi was a convict, but one of impeccable character.  The contemporaneous character references are all important.  The SFA will also be chastened by recent experiences.

My guess is that in the unlikely event the Nomads acquiesce, Peter Lawwell’s views will be immaterial.  “Nobody likes us, we don’t care” has nothing to do with it, just find someone Fit and Proper!

Delighted that Aberdeen’s quest for silverware survived Fir Park last night.  This club have underachieved for around 20 years now but Derek McInnes stands a reasonable chance of delivering second place in the league, as well as the League Cup.

Not so delighted at Hibs capitulation.  Despite playing like Brazil in the 1970 World Cup for the first 15 minutes of their home tie against Hearts last night they were soon out-muscled, with more than a few players looking miles out of their depth.  There is no compensation for Scottish football in Hearts progressing to the semi-finals.  They are mid-crisis and will remain so, irrespective of how they perform in cup competitions, but the absence of Hibernian from the genuine challengers is a regret.

Morton went down to a late St Johnstone goal.  They have now lost five and drawn one of their six games since winning at Celtic Park, their only victory since August…..

With this in mind, I’ll refrain from referring to the potential advantage of having a Cup Final at ‘home’ until we have earned the right to be there.

Dreadful news of Fernando Ricksen.  I hope he finds strength from those close to him in the years ahead.

The new CQN Annual is looking great, really delighted with it. Thank you to everyone who has participated in the project. You can pre-order below:

  1. whitecrook tim- I’ve also just been for a baldie, nipped into the charity shop and secured a pristine hardback copy of Archie McPherson’s biography of Jock Stein, for the princely sum of £1.45.

There is no point in us selling in January unless we get a ridiculous bid. If Joe Hart is dropped by Man City, there is a good chance FF becomes England’s Number 1 at which point his value will rocket.

If he gets in the England team and has a good world cup i think we will break our transfer record when selling him.

  5. Had an odd experience this week.

On Monday afternoon I phoned The Herald and asked why in that day’s edition, it had published a three year old story about troops in Afghanistan behaving inappropriately, whilst in common with others in MSM, it had studiously avoided reporting on members of the Armed Forces behaving in a similarly inappropriate fashion at a Glasgow football ground only a few weeks ago. (At the time, a Herald journalist described the immediately above as being ‘wonderfully chaotic).

Perhaps hoping to end my participation in the matter, the recipient of my call said that my comments would be passed on, and if I left my name and number, someone would get back to me.

Words cannot express my surprise to find that I am still waiting.

Do you think Newcastle have a sell-on clause?

I saw no mention of it,and £2m for someone who never figured for them was a tad high. On that stat alone (caveat)

  7. Colney Hatch Loyal convenes on FF to discourse upon the issue of sectarianism and whether it has worsened over the last decade:

‘We have had everything from [Spiers] stereotyping Rangers supporters from everything from “stinking cavemen” to “neanderthals”….. we have had FOCUS set up, and we have witnessed a co-ordinated campaign driven by members of one particular religion to destroy Scotland’s most successful football club.’

    ——

“Across ‘protestant’ Scotland sectarianism has decreased significantly.

Up to the mid 80’s most non OF fans still had a soft spot for Rangers or them, clubs like Hearts, Motherwell, Dundee and even Aberdeen were very much pro Rangers in the OF context, all of these clubs had a Scottish protestant cultural identity and it showed when they came to town or during OF games.

Protestant Scotland has lost its confidence and much of its identity while Catholics ‘Scots’, of Irish descent, have been politicized and have sought to advance their image and agenda through a concerted effort of politics, media, Law, cultural events and in a sporting context with them at the center of this.

There is no protestant equivalent of this.

The protestant image and identity of Scotland is something that ‘modern’ Scotland has been encouraged to move past and is presented as a relic of a dark past.

Catholic Scotland is encouraged uncritically and those who seek to challenge it on any level are quickly deemed to be bigots and guilty of the dreaded word ‘sectarian’.”

    ——

“It’s got a lot worse,so much hate towards the Protestant people and institutions”

    ——

“The MSM have a lot to answer for in the last few years with their demonising of Rangers, and glorifying the ethnic minority which they are helping to take control of the country.

McConnel, O’Neil, Lennon, Spiers, Spence et al, have all helped stoke the sectarian fire to a blaze…. Then, again, out of the blue pops up the phrase ‘non-RC’! What the hell is that? It should be banned! It makes Protestant, sound like the minority faith, and the basic religion of the land Roman Catholic. They then get the idea that they are much more powerful.”

    ——

‘Some real vitriol and bitter hatred being spewed by some.

    Bead rattlers mostly.’

    ——

‘I would have said that years ago there was a lot more “casual” sectarianism.

For instance it was quite common for pubs/shops to advertise for staff with “RC’s need not apply” and vice versa.’

    ——

“Martin O Neil took the rhabids to a whole new level of bitterness

That stuck with them, and Lennon is riding on the back of that”

    ——

“With the Catholic infiltration and subsequent coordinated anti protestant campaigns, it has without doubt increased”

    ——

“I genuinly believe we will see bloodshed on the streets of scotland. We have a minority religious sect in control of nearly every area of society. The majority has no political voice anymore. Recipe for disaster.”

    ——

    “It is beyond worse.

Roman Catholics in positions of power is our worst nightmare.

    They control the media

    They control politics

    They control plod

We live in a fascist state.

Some people on here equate fascism with Jews and the gas chambers.

    Absolute boll*cks. Time for a re-think.

It is about a nasty wee tail, a virulent tail wagging an apathetic dog.”

    ——

“I don’t think that the two big clubs explain the increased tim presence in politics at all levels, the media, the creation of organisations like FARE, Nil by Mouth etc. I don’t think that it explains the fact that 150 years after the influx from Ireland, they are still immigrants and steadfastly, through Catholic schools, refuse to integrate to an extent that other immigrant communities have not done (other than perhaps moslems).

For me it is all driven by the RC church although CFC appear to be driving it all as their standard bearers in Scotland.

For them our club is the number one target.

I am an atheist and have no religious axe to grind”

    ——

“Absolutely it’s getting worse. Seems to be coupled with O’Neill taking over at the piggery and the likes of Spiers one sided reporting.”

    ——

“We really have reached a new high in lows.”

And what better place in the world to expose that ?

I was “suspended” during that discussion and chaffing at the bitt to make the point, what an opportunity to either expose him as a hater or the bbc as a tool of the ayebrokes PR machine.

Aye agreed, giving him a stage to spout his justifications is a gamble but honestly who here really believes he’d be allowed to select his questions or get away with “no comment” as an answer ?

I thought it was a great idea, I’d love to see some one like Awe_naw., being allowed to pose the questions or even be conference called to validate the process. I love the dissension on this blog its probably the only one which allows the extremes. So when such an idea is proposed then the opposite extreme should be allowed to listen in to validate proceedings, maybe no allowed to disrupt it vocally but respond by text during the interview. Then we’d have two reports and a balance, just a stupid suggestion but I really think nevin would have to reassess his position after some straight talking.

I have said many times on this site before that I am not in favour of joining the English league. A European league with the big guns in it is the future.

Celtic have the infrastructure off the field and a team of young and improving players on the field.

I don’t think we will ever live in a fair world when it comes to football but it is levelling out. The days of Real Madrid spending way outwith their means is slowly coming to an end. The German sides are rightly not happy about their country bailing out the Spanish banks who in turn are bank rolling various Spanish teams. In fairness the Germans are not squeaky clean either but are getting there. The bubble in England will burst in a few years. With the internet pay per view events on TV like subscription channels (Sky Sports & BT Sports) will be a thing of the past. BT have realised this to an extent alreday and made their channels free to broadband customers. That is where the future revenue lies. The European Super league or whatever they call it will be the future. It will no doubt have a 2nd teir and the rest of the game in Europe will be regionalised and maybe even summer football and other tournements can be held particularly in smaller countries like Scotland.

Celtic are gearing for a European league. We want to be at the top table and we have the financial muscle and a clued up CEO. Scotland is a small fry league and set up in general. We probably made more money from the game in Dublin against Liverpool than we will earn for winning the league title this season. Celtic are big bucks and we have big bucks who will back us when we hit the big time.

If I had a few grand I would be investing in Celtic shares. They will rocket when we hit the big time.
