The most secure club in Europe

868

Ronny Deila has been talking about a treble since early in the season, far too early for my liking.  History suggests that trebles are notoriously difficult to win, even for dominant teams.  The league is usually won by the best team but it’s hard to win every game in two cup competitions, no matter how good you are.

Despite this, I’ll not bet against Ronny getting his wish.  He needs to win four games cup games, three of which would be at neutral Hampden, with only one game, the Scottish Cup quarter final, possibly being played away from home.

The cynic among you will, therefore, expect an away draw, possibly in some far-flung end of the country, like Inverness.  My money is on a trip to Easter Road.  I’ll be happy to avoid Tannadice, scene of our last defeat and a place they’re understandably feeling sort over the loss of Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven.

People of Kirkcaldy: that whole 1994-Ibrox thing, forget about it, we’re OK.

Well done to Celtic for highlighting their position as the least likely football team to financially default, according the US rating agency, Standards & Poor’s.  Commercial and ticket income across Scottish football has fallen in recent years but that was only going to result in Armageddon if those in charge of clubs put an inflated sense of their own importance ahead of paying bills.

See the photo above sent by Mary’s Meals last week of the school kitchen we funded at CQ10.  Work is already underway to raise funds for a fourth CQN kitchen in Malawi after the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner, on Friday 13 March at the Kerrydale Suite.  Email me for ticket, celticquicknews@gmail.com

  1. Another thing about Wakaso is that his parent club are looking for around £3m+ for him. Not worth anything close to that.

Ol` Stamper McCulloch…..got a nice ring to it.

  4. Philvis – total take is of course key. BUT when talking about fair shares and all that then it’s important to consider Proportion and also what that means in terms of ability to live when it’s all paid.

The facts are that we have a grossly unfair system. Even the Davos set are beginning to wonder if they haven’t over done it with the upward transfer of wealth…..

  7. If derk could stay fit I reckon he can play a bit. He fears injury and that holds him back.

Watch him in later years of his career – he’ll do a good job for a mid, table Dutch side IMO. Could have been for us but too fragile….

Rubin would be happy if another club could take obligations off them. If you take the exchange rate rub/usd is twice higher it was in June 2014, anyone ready to pay Wakaso wages is very we welcome. Big changes in Russian football.

Celtic Dev Side to play Partick Thistle: Fasan; Fisher, Kelleher, Findlay, Waters; Breslin, Lindsay; Thomson, McMullan, Duffy; Scepovic

Subs: McIlduff, Hart, McCart, Miller, Hendry, Lafferty, Hill

  11. Wotte makes intelligent points – Why would we not want the governing body to ensure that financial doping which won Rangers titles and CL monies can NEVER happen again.

We know the Ibrox mob cannot be allowed in the ‘back door’- However a sixteen team league as he suggests is without doubt the way to go.

Thirty games, then a 8/8 split giving 37 games in total.

The play-offs he suggests would be good.

I believe the Celtic model under Ronny would blossom in a sixteen league – with more opportunities to ‘blood’ youngsters.

It needs serious discussion – let’s open our minds for the benefit of Celtic.

Adam Matthews is the worst at the club for stopping crosses from coming in from the wing, watch him in any game his slackness defensively costs us time and time again, a vastly over rated full back…

    Latest from: https://billmcmurdo.wordpress.com/2015/02/09/last-man-standing/

If you thought that Rangers couldn’t hit new lows after the past couple of years, yesterday’s exit from the Scottish Cup at the hands of Raith Rovers is a strong case for the contrary.

Rangers were abysmal – as per. it has to be said. The two loanees that featured certainly didn’t disgrace themselves but neither showed the type of quality to offset the pathetic nature of their team mates’ play.

The abject sight of the Rangers manager scribbling on his clipboard while the team was sinking beneath the waves is a striking metaphor for our times. The Benny from Crossroads hat doesn’t help. Kenny McDowall was a good player and a respected coach. He needs to find his way fast if he is not to do the impossible and surpass his predecessor for unpopularity in the dugout.

It’s not too late for Rangers to regroup and focus on a promotion spot. Sadly, few seem willing to even consider it.

Off the park, the EGM venue is the latest bone of contention.

The board have obviously decided to avoid the kind of circus that was seen at the AGM and there is the possibility that moving the EGM to London is as much about showing the City what they have to contend with from the likes of SoS as it is about making the event difficult to attend for some. Any excessive protesting will not go down well in the capital and there will be robust policing.

A clever move by the board, if a sneaky one. That said, the location of the venue recognises the reality that the boardroom tussles are really about a shareholder battle.

Speculation is rife over whether or not Dave King will get the necessary percentages to oust the board and effect boardroom change. Even if he does, it will not be the end of his opponents. They will still be there with a significant shareholding to hinder and thwart any plans they disagree with. Anyone who thinks a King victory at the EGM signals the end of hostilities is deluded.

The problem for King is that he can win many key battles but he cannot win the war. If Mike Ashley decides to sit on his shareholding until the opportune moment comes to mount a takeover, that is what will happen. King cannot budge Ashley’s tanks and he has to perform wonders to take the club forward.

Attracting investment and sponsorship may prove a very difficult task given the toxicity surrounding the club. Investors will be wary given the antics of the malcontents and then there is the thorny issue of King’s fit and proper status. He may get round this by putting up a place man for the board but having knocked back King, the regulating authorities will be scrutinising the club to see that he is not operating in a “shadow director” capacity.

As I said, it hinges upon Ashley’s intent. If he has decided he wants Rangers, he will most likely take the long route if he is denied the short one. Just being there will discomfit King and any mistakes made by King will be used to maximum effect by his opponents.

I said before that in some ways King and T3B have weakened their position by buying shares. Now they stand to incur financial losses if things go south and if they do not deliver for the fans, this will cost them very dear in credibility. It’s easy to be the protester on the outside with a placard but not so easy when you are the one that has to produce the goods on the inside. Should King triumph at the EGM he will have to undo the damage caused by his own supporters’ boycotts and agitation.

It has to be said that these boycotts have played right into Mike Ashley’s hands; indeed, everything that the King camp does cannot fail to strengthen Ashley’s grip. The weaker the Rangers his rivals inherit should they win the EGM, the more difficult – and expensive – will be their turnaround. Compared to his opponents, Ashley has bottomless wealth. He could even take the view that the longer they go digging a hole trying to run the club, the more they will need him to fill it.

The short term is volatile and precarious and it depends who you listen to in respect of who will win.

But the longer term is more certain. If Mike Ashley does not tire of the Rangers situation and is intent on having the club, then he will settle for ultimate victory later rather than sooner.

You can take that to the bank.

  19. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

About two weeks ago a CQN user asked for the names and the amounts contributed to the Celtic Supporters statement in the Herald. I thought that this was not very nice and to be frank none of his business and more than a tad intimidating. It was certainly meant to be. Pretty normal for this CQN user. This is the type of behaviour that leads to unwanted door stepping especially if that information was provided. I then searched on google and in the first hit found his CQN name and another name which I hoped would be his real name but you can never be sure.

I then posted that this other name and stated he had contributed 75% towards the advert. Which everyone knew was not true. I never addressed him directly(I never do) and my posting passed by without comment on CQN until today. A taste of his own medicine but quietly as nobody knew anything about it apart from him. That he decided to publicise it was his choice. Too many sweety wives on here unable to fathom that fact out for themselves.

It was stated today that it was removed. I did not notice its removal but I did notice that that particular CQN user had shot the craw so to speak until today. So what happened in the last two weeks ? to make him disappear from the blog ? did he use another handle mean time or was he living in fear of his and his families welfare. Yeah that is why he has his real name and CQN handle all over the internet. He cares about them that much.

As for the other CQNers – the sweetie wife brigade … I never saw any of you come out when he was demanding names and numbers from those that contributed to the advert the day after he outed himself via his twitter account. Which anyone can access anywhere in the world. I never read any of you decry my original post which was not immediately deleted either.

So why did he really disappear these last two weeks I mean it has been good for Celtic and what inspired him to come on the blog today ?

A rhetorical question as I don’t want you thinking too hard for yourselves guys. Its dangerous. It leads to witch burning.
