The most secure club in Europe

868

Ronny Deila has been talking about a treble since early in the season, far too early for my liking.  History suggests that trebles are notoriously difficult to win, even for dominant teams.  The league is usually won by the best team but it’s hard to win every game in two cup competitions, no matter how good you are.

Despite this, I’ll not bet against Ronny getting his wish.  He needs to win four games cup games, three of which would be at neutral Hampden, with only one game, the Scottish Cup quarter final, possibly being played away from home.

The cynic among you will, therefore, expect an away draw, possibly in some far-flung end of the country, like Inverness.  My money is on a trip to Easter Road.  I’ll be happy to avoid Tannadice, scene of our last defeat and a place they’re understandably feeling sort over the loss of Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven.

People of Kirkcaldy: that whole 1994-Ibrox thing, forget about it, we’re OK.

Well done to Celtic for highlighting their position as the least likely football team to financially default, according the US rating agency, Standards & Poor’s.  Commercial and ticket income across Scottish football has fallen in recent years but that was only going to result in Armageddon if those in charge of clubs put an inflated sense of their own importance ahead of paying bills.

See the photo above sent by Mary’s Meals last week of the school kitchen we funded at CQ10.  Work is already underway to raise funds for a fourth CQN kitchen in Malawi after the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner, on Friday 13 March at the Kerrydale Suite.  Email me for ticket, celticquicknews@gmail.com

I don’t think being one of the most financially secure clubs is something to be shouting from the rafters when we are playing in front of half empty stadiums to be honest.

If anything, it probably re-affirms some of the decision making paths the half sitting at home have taken in the belief our club has been on a spiral of downsizing for years now.

I believe the product on the pitch is better than it was last season and has been but in contrast to most Celtic teams throughout our illustrious history – it is still very poor by comparison.

    ==============================================================

In a time of declining attendances all over the world – there would be no team on the park if we were not prudent in our finances.

If half our punters want to sit at home because the ‘Rangers’ are not in the league – then more fool them.

We always try to put the best we can on the park – anyone with half a brain, and can read our accounts over the last twelve years – MUST know that we are not ‘swimming’ in money.

Of course we have made errors of judgement – every club does – but to have bought and sold – Ki,Hooper. Wanyama, Forster, Wilson and a few others and sold them on for around £40 million and then sourced in – VVD,Gordon,Armstrong,GMS, Denayer, Gudetti, Lustig, Johansen, Mathews and brought on the young – e.g Forrest, Henderson, McGregor and Fisher, with a few more in the pipeline.

What on God’s earth do people want from the club. bearing in mind what league we play in.

Celtic is a success story, over and over and over again – some people on here have the mind of a spoiled child.

*FFS they were gubbed 6-0….4 doon at half time…..To be fair though they played Real aff the park in the 1st leg only to lose out tae a last minute Ferenc Puskas goal…….overheard an oul hun say that he fancied their chances in the Bernabeu as Real would have to come out in attack in front of their own fans…..still urinating myself laughing at that.

I was at the 1-0 game.Walked up,lifted over, right down to the front at the Celtic end.Mouth agape at being so close to the Madrid players. The Puskas goal was stunning. Was at the Eintracht game as well.I have said before on here,I have seen the Monkeys royally humped on many European nights. Was at Hampden with my Da for the Real Eintracht final.Great days.

Look beyond the headlines of the Wotte article and the Agenda is clear.

Wotte reckons the Premiership is too small and there should be a 16-team top flight.

    ==============================================================

There has NEVER been such a set of circumstances, as there are today, to bring the real possibility of a sixteen team top league about.

I don’t want it if it let’s the huns off lightly – but I could put together a compelling case, why it should happen at the end of this season.

No relegation, and the top four from the Championship promoted.

I believe it would be beneficial to us and the whole of Scottish football – however there is the Ibrox factor….to factor in !!

I think the message highlights the fact that we are white, some are black but the overwhelming majority of football clubs are somewhere in the grey.

It therefore implies that a slight veering toward the grey wouldnt jeopardise anything.

I dont think anyone is banging their fists demanding multiple millions are spent (well except for the we arra peepil brigade), but a revision of the wages ceiling? One blue chip, bums on seat signing?

None of the above, it would seem would cause any undue duress.

  15. Just heard the draw, well thats a surprise, away to Dundee united.

Maybe we are better getting a tough away tie, when i think back to last season and Morton and Aberdeen at CP.

Aye Wotte – maybe they should have stopped Murray giving Advocaat £80million of OPM?

Oh, and Hearts and Hibs will be in the top league pretty soon – on merit.

  21. Talking about work placements, my son finished a week at a small IT company.

They treated him very well (he doesn’t go to a posh school btw) and gave him a Raspberry Pi as a leaving present (which was nice).

Mrs PTB thought he had been given a Pie rather than a Pi and said it would make a nice dessert.

Anyway, it seems that these are very basic computers (designed for the Third World perhaps?) and they have to be connected up to a monitor, keyboard, mouse, memory card etc.

Has anybody used one – he uses my old laptop most of the time – and would he get any fun, education out of it setting it up?

A general question to the CQN population:

Which of our regular first team players do you think are not good enough for Celtic?

I am assuming success, generally, for Celtic means : Winning the League; going far in the Cups and qualifying for the Group Stages in the CL (?) or Qualifying for Group Stages of EL.

Yes. It runs a version of the Linux operating system. And has software on it for learning how to program in Python.

Linux is used across the globe for running servers that host websites. So learning the basics of that is really useful. No matter what you end up doing.

Python is a pretty good language for starting programming. It’s increasing used in web development.

You can also run XBMC on a Pi which can be useful if you require a square sausage on a matchday ;)

In fact there’s loads you can do all sorts with it and there’s forums/blogs all over the shop dedicated to it.

  25. The Honest Mistake loves being first on

    Petethebeat.

    Very much so.

A good introduction to programming and peripheral device control. It’s worth googling some examples of what raspberry pis are capable of. A guy I work with has his whole house wired up using a number of raspberry pis. Security, automatic blinds, light switches etc.

  26. Pete the Beat

if your son is into progamming the Pi could be a good foundation for software development.

It is a decent wee gadget for it’s cost of £25.

    Is it a Pi or a Pi2?

The Pi2 has been reported as being photo sensative to camera flashes. When a camera goes off the components on the board are resetting themselves. :-)

I think your boy could get good use out of it. powerful for it’s price and size.
